The words express a deep trust. They are also familiar in that we hear them from Jesus and from Stephen in their grief and suffering. May we always have that deep trust in our God, especially when we re not grieving or suffering. It may be a bit premature, but by the time this is printed and distributed Grace Lutheran in Ada, MN will have voted to call me and I will have accepted their call. Of course if that doesn t happen, then you ll be stuck with me for a while longer. Change is difficult for most of us, and I don t do very well with good-byes or farewells. As always it s a bitter-sweet thing. It always has been and always will be excitement and anticipation at greeting the new and the unknown, and sadness at leaving the old and familiar. But we do it and with God s help we manage very well. One person wrote better than I can, The spirit of trust and dependence on God is expressed by God s people down through the centuries. Whenever we as God s people embark on a new enterprise, we commit ourselves to God s providence and nurture " This is most certainly true! As the church, we also most certainly seek to employ the wisdom that we have and we try not to be foolish in our decision making. But from the beginning we know we can t see or know the ending. And we make mistakes and sin along the way because well, we re imperfect and sinful people, often times failing to hear God s voice. That is to say, we are human. Yet, we go forward boldly as did our ancestors before us, trusting God, knowing God will not disappoint us. Yes, changes and new plans for you and for me. For our family, changes and new plans include Jerry graduating at the end of May and entering the collegiate world at UND. Monica and I will experience the empty nest. We will live in two places for some weeks as we prepare our house for sale. You will have your own. Again, we can t see or know the ending. But we go forward boldly in faith as God s people, as sisters and brothers in Christ. Thank you for the past 5+ yrs! God be with you till we meet again! And God will be! Pastor Jack
