These cards will be collected by one of the pastors during the offering time. Why is there death and suffering in the world? Many reject God on the basis that he must be a cruel god to allow the terrible events and suffering that we see in the world today. Could you answer this? Find out how you can use this question, and more, as a powerful tool to reach others for Christ. Remember to bring a friend when you hear Dr. Jonathan Sarfati giving one of his dynamic message at 7 pm on Saturday, November 12. BAPTIZED during the Sunday 10:40 am service: Natalie Alina Fisk, daughter of Brian and Stephanie (Melvin) Fisk, born October 5, 2011. Her sponsors are Alicia Navarette and Rebekah Melvin. JOYFULLY SERVING CHEERFULLY GIVING Please put your commitment in one of the boxes in the narthex today. There are also extra materials in the narthex. Please note that the new Ministry Activities Questionnaire seeks to identify your gifts and interests, rather than the church s needs. Our goal is to have everyone joyfully serving others in ways that bring them joy and satisfaction. If you forgot today -- there is grace! We will be bringing all our commitments to the altar next weekend to be dedicated to God s glory. ADULT EDUCATION Sundays, 9:20 to 10:20 am Celebrating God s Grace is a class for non-lutherans who might like to find out more about the Lutheran Church. At the end of the class, they are eligible to join the church but there is no obligation. It is also for long-time Lutherans who might like to review the basics of their faith. This class is led by Pastor Heining in the North Fellowship Hall. Courageous: Based on the inspiring movie that is spurring a movement that lifts up families and fatherhood. This four-week class uses clips from the movie to show the vital importance of families who honor God. Tim Strohschein leads this class in the South Fellowship Hall. Creation: All the evolution rhetoric is very smooth and sounds scientific. But there are very big holes that are exposed when one asks some simple questions. Come and learn the questions to ask those buying into evolution. Then be willing to listen. This class is led by John VanProosdy in the Choir Room. FINANCIAL UPDATE - Great Turnaround October Budget Income: $78,874 Year-to-date Income: $709,774 October Budget Expenses: $65,119 Year-to-date Expenses: $712,354 While five Sundays helped, God s people came through! After gradually slipping behind for three straight months, we had a great month in October. We are now very close to having a balanced budget for the year. Thanks to all! 2 Week of 11-13-2011

You are invited to a Fall Harvest Dinner immediately following the Saturday evening service at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2011. Menu will be: turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes' & gravy, cranberries, green bean casserole, salad, dinner rolls, pumpkin bars, pecan bars, & apple bars. This event is sponsored by several Christ Care groups. We hope to be able to provide transportation to several of our members who are normally shut-in. Voters Assembly Update Those present last Sunday decided by a 76-20 margin to call our next Associate Pastor from the Seminary. We will proceed with filling out the necessary documents, probably interview in March, and look forward to an installation in the summer. Thanks to all who are stepping up during this time in which we are short one pastor. Sunday School Teachers and Others! A condensed version of Living God s Way will be shared Saturday morning, November 19, from 8:30 to 11:00 am. This is designed to help us to identify our gifts and passions and help us to serve in a way that brings joy to ourselves, others, and to God. Bible Handbook for Students This is an excellent resource for teens and adults, offering excellent background material for each book of the Bible. By ordering them in bulk we can purchase them for $21 each (includes shipping). Take a look at the sample on the counter in the narthex, and sign the sheet if you would like to order one. LUTHERAN WITNESS for November has arrived. Please pick up a copy in the Narthex. 3 Week of 11-13-2011

November is COPD Awareness Month Did you know that COPD is the fourth leading cause of death in the U.S.? Or that it affects more than 12 million Americans? Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) - which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis - is a term used to describe the obstruction of airflow. COPD cannot be cured, but it can be treated. Early detection and diagnosis is the key to successful management of this chronic disease. Smoking is the primary risk factor for COPD. Approximately 85 to 90 percent of COPD deaths are caused by smoking. Any current or former smoker over age 40 or never-smoker with a family history of COPD, emphysema or chronic bronchitis, those with exposure to occupational or environmental pollutants and those with a chronic cough or breathlessness, should seek testing for COPD. Other risk factors of COPD include exposure to air pollution, second-hand smoke, heredity, and a history of childhood respiratory infections. (Source: Taken from American Lung Association and provided by Olmsted County Public Health Services) STEPHEN MINISTRY Crisis: An emotionally charged time of instability during which a crucial change occurs The Chinese word for crisis is a combination of two characters: one for danger, the other for opportunity. This drives home the fact that every crisis, though it involves impending danger, also offers opportunities for personal or spiritual growth. Stephen Ministers are trained to walk with you through the dangers of your crisis and to help you find the opportunities God has in store for you. For information on how to connect with a Stephen Minister, please contact Bill Cochran (507) 288-4133 or Dave Wood (507) 529-5635. CHRISTCARE LEADERSHIP - Praise God that we have had several new people express a willingness to be trained as ChristCare small group leaders. The next class will begin the second week in January. But, we would welcome (and need) even more to join us! For details talk to any of the following people: Paul Haugen, Bonnie Haugen, Paula Muth, Paul Collopy, Sue Tollers, or Pastor Jim. CHRISTCARE LEADERS - Please note the combined SEA meeting on Thursday, at 6:30 pm in the Upper Room. Our CE topic will be Being A Servant Leader. We are a Stephen Ministry Congregation! 5 Week of 11-13-2011
