It Is Written A Virgin Will Conceive and Bear a Son by Victor Torres 2Ti 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, In this study, we will go through some New Testament verses which directly quote an Old Testament verse and Lord willing, see how they are profitable for us for doctrine, for reproof, for correction or instruction in righteousness. 1Co 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples [Greek types]: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. Let us ask God to give us the faith to believe that all these things did indeed happen to the nation of Israel as types of us. Equally important is to ask Him to give us the faith to believe that all these quoted Scriptures are written for our admonition. Otherwise, anything we hear tonight or we listen to or read later will not profit us. Heb 4:2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. As we are given the faith to believe, let us not be ignorant of the wiles of the enemy who mixes these truths with a lie. Jer 7:8 Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit. It is only after we meditate upon these spiritual words of life (Joh 6:63) and give ourselves wholly to them that we truly profit in them. 1Ti 4:15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. The first direct quote is in Matthew 1:23. I say direct quote because we know that every single New Testament verse is powered by an Old Testament verse or a set of verses (Mat 13:52, Son 7:13). Mat 1:23 "Behold! The virgin will conceive in her womb and will bear a son, and they will call His name Emmanuel" (which translated is, God with us). This verse directly quotes Isa 7:14 Isa 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Mary is a type of the true mother of Christ. Age-abiding life is knowing the Father and His Son. And this includes knowing who Christ considers His true mother. Mar 3:33 And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren? Mar 3:34 And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! Mar 3:35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother. When we do the will of God, we become part of the new Jerusalem, the spiritual mother of all the living, begetting sons and daughters of God through the gospel. Gal 4:26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all. Gal 4:27 For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband. Verse 27 is a direct quote from Isa 54:1. Isa 54:1 Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD. Like Elizabeth who was barren, and like Mary who was a virgin, we must believe God when He declares something through His messengers. Luk 1:34 Then Mary said to the angel, How shall this be, since I do not know a man? Luk 1:35 And the angel answered and said to her, The Holy Spirit shall come on you, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow you. Therefore also that Holy One which will be born of you shall be called Son of God. Luk 1:36 And behold, your cousin Elizabeth also conceived a son in her old age. And this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. Why? Luk 1:37 For with God nothing shall be impossible. That is the point of this prophecy and any prophecy. It is meant to encourage us. It is meant to comfort us. It is meant to discipline us to live godly lives, being fully persuaded that God is able to perform what He has promised (Rom 4:21) When we are told that we shall all be changed, then we shall all be changed at our appointed time. When we are told that He wills all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth, then we must believe that it would happen. Luk 2:10 And the angel said to them, Do not fear. For behold, I give to you

good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. Luk 2:11 For to you is born today, in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. Good tidings means the good news or the gospel. The Lord was sent to the world not to condemn it, but to save it. That is what He preached. Luk 8:1 And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him, The salvation of all is the consummation of the plan of God as we have seen through a recent series of studies. It will happen despite all the evil that we see throughout the world. And more importantly, we must believe that it will happen despite the evil of the chief of sinners that we see in the mirror. Isa 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. I looked up the word that was translated into the phrase let us reason together, and it is translated from one Hebrew word yakach. This word when used in other verses in the bible is translated as rebuke or reprove as in these verses: Pro 9:8 Reprove [yakach] not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke [yakach] a wise man, and he will love thee. Pro 30:5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Pro 30:6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove [yakach] thee, and thou be found a liar. That is how we are cleansed by the blood of Christ. It is through the correction of the brothers and sisters in the body that we cast out the leaven from the house of God. That is how we bear the fruit of the spirit, when we die to our sinful flesh and seek judgment from those who are within. The preceding two verses of Isa 1:18 bear this out: Isa 1:16 Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil; Isa 1:17 Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow. Isa 1:18 (CLV) Go, pray and it shall be corrected, saying is Yahweh. "If your sins are coming to be as double dipped scarlet, as snow shall they be white. If they are reddened as crimson, as wool shall they become."

This process of judgment is typified by our Lord's dying to the sinful flesh on the ninth hour (Mat 27:46). With the help of our spiritual mother, we must put off our old man and its old ways with all its corrupt desires. Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Gal 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Gal 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. We are also given the nine gifts of the spirit to judge divisions in the body. 1Co 12:8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 1Co 12:9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 1Co 12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 1Co 12:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. 1Co 12:12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. Only when we crucify the flesh [the beast, the false prophet, the old man] with all its affections and lusts that we are able to put on the new man, the fruit of the Spirit with its nine forms again typifying judgment (for more on the Spiritual significance of the number nine, review the study on iswasandwillbe. com) Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. That is how we live by these words: Luk 1:35 And the angel answered and said to her, The Holy Spirit shall come on you, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow you. Therefore also that Holy One which will be born of you shall be called Son of God. If you are given spiritual eyes, you will see that the bible is talking about the church when it talks about a woman. You will have no problem applying what is said to or about Mary to yourself if you belong to Christ's spiritual mother, the

church. That's because you are given to understand this verse: 2Co 5:16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. We have the mind of Christ if we appreciate the gravity of these verses: Mat 25:34 Then the King shall say to those on His right hand, Come, blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. Mat 25:35 For I was hungry, and you gave me food; I was thirsty, and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger, and you took Me in; Mat 25:36 I was naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me. Mat 25:37 Then the righteous shall answer Him, saying, Lord, when did we see You hungry, and fed You? Or thirsty, and gave You drink? Mat 25:38 When did we see You a stranger, and took You in? Or naked, and clothed You? Mat 25:39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and came to You? Mat 25:40 And the King shall answer and say to them, Truly I say to you, Inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brothers, you have done it to Me. We are Jesus Christ. Whoever persecutes us persecutes Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Whoever hears us hears Him. Whoever denies us denies Him. Whoever loves his father or mother or son or daughter or wife or brothers or sisters or his life more than us is not worthy of Him. Mat 10:37 He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. Mat 10:38 And he who does not take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me. We are indeed blessed among women. This church is indeed blessed among all churches. Luk 1:28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. Let us look at the words said to Mary and those that she uttered herself and see how these pertain to us: Luk 1:45 And blessed is she believing, because there will be a completion to the things spoken to her from the Lord. Our old man believes only on things that he can see. Our new man is blessed because he believes even that God will finish what He has started.

Luk 1:46 And Mary said, My soul magnifies the Lord, Luk 1:47 and my spirit exulted in God My Savior. Our old man lives only to exult himself, thinking he has a free will that can resist the will of God. Our new man believes in the total sovereignty of God and seek only to glorify Him. Luk 1:48 For He looked upon the humiliation of His slave woman. For, behold, from now on all generations will count me blessed. This is a quote from 1Sa 1:11 1Sa 1:11 And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head. It is very revealing that Mary quoted Hannah who was asking the Lord to give her a child for she was barren. Hannah was that wife of Elkanah. Elkanah had another wife named Peninnah who had children. Peninnah provoked Hannah sore to make her fret, because the Lord had shut up her womb. Peninnah did this year by year, so Hannah was very grieved. Peninnah typifies our old man who boasts that he chose the Lord and he will be saved because of his good works. Hannah typifies our new man who knows that he can do nothing without God and that it is God who gives him to will as well as the ability to do His good pleasure. Luk 1:49 For the Mighty One did great things to me, and holy is His name. Luk 1:50 And His mercy is to generations of generations to those fearing Him. Php 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. This is a quote from Psa 103:17 Psa 103:17 But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children; Our old man will say yes if you ask him if God is merciful. But it will not take long to hear the voice of a stranger once you start asking him what will happen to those who don't believe. The new man understand that it is the Mighty One who did great things to him, that it is totally up to God who will believe and who will not believe. He also believes that everyone will be given mercy in the end and will be saved. Luk 1:51 He performed mightily with His arm; He scattered proud ones in the thought of their heart.

Luk 1:52 He put down powerful ones from thrones, and exalted lowly ones. Luk 1:53 He filled the hungry with good things, and He sent the rich away empty. Luk 1:54 He helped His servant Israel in order to remember mercy, Luk 1:55 even as He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed to the age. The old man will not relinquish the throne of our hearts until God destroys him with the brightness of His coming. The new man has a contrite spirit and always rely on the power of God's word. We are blessed among all churches not only because of the understanding given to us of the gospel, but also because we have this family who dearly loves us and are willing to give themselves for us. 1Th 2:7 But we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother taking care of her own children. 1Th 2:8 So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us. Do we have the same mind as Paul? Did each and every member of our family become very dear to us? If we are not there yet, I do hope that we are getting there soon. A coworker once asked me what do I think heaven would be like. I put heaven in quotation marks because I know she's essentially asking what it would be like when God is all in all. I told her to think how much she loves her children. And then I told her to imagine that she loves everyone as she loves her children. And finally, I told her to imagine that everyone loves her back the same way. We are not told much details of what it will be like when God is all in all, but we are given a preview of what it will be like through the joy that we have in our family in Christ, our hundredfold in this age. We are told these: Eph 1:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, Eph 1:19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Eph 1:20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Eph 1:21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: Eph 1:22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Eph 1:23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

It is through the body that the head accomplishes everything. Just as the Father accomplishes everything through Christ, so thus Christ accomplishes everything, including the salvation of all men, through the church. 1Co 12:25 that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. 1Co 12:26 If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. Don't we suffer when our children suffer? Aren't we willing to do anything to ease their suffering? Don't we rejoice when our children are honored? Aren't we told not to provoke them so they don't get discouraged, but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord? Don't we readily and wholeheartedly forgive them when they repent of their wrongdoings? Do we do the same things for our brothers and sisters? Are we as patient as a mother is to her children, until they mature and are able to beget children of their own? Here is apostle Paul urging the church to receive Onesimus, who was once unprofitable (immature, as we all start as), but now is profitable to the whole church, as a fruitful, mature child. Phm 1:10 I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds: Phm 1:11 Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me: Phm 1:12 Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels: It is not enough to be associated with Jesus, to be called by His name. It is not even enough to believe every word that was said in this study. We need to be doers and not hearers only. Luk 11:27 And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked. Luk 11:28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it. To further emphasize this point, let us look back to the first Scripture we quoted in this study, but this time we will look at the verse after it. 2Ti 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 2Ti 3:17 that the man of God may be perfected, thoroughly furnished to every good work.

Finally, let us look at our Lord's example and the disciple whom He loved: Joh 19:26 When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold, your son!" Joh 19:27 Then he said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother!" And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.
