Village Church United Church of Christ God saw everything he had made: it was good. There was evening there was morning the sixth day. June 7, 2015

Welcome to First Worship! We extend a welcome as broad as the outstretched arms of God, who calls us to be here together to rejoice in God s glorious presence. Welcome to children of all ages to all the children of God, each one of us. If you are an old friend or here for the first time, we welcome you. Our worship is an intergenerational experience and we want children to feel fully included. Children are welcome to pick up an activity bag and to bring snacks to their seats. We remember that worship offers us all a special place to be with God. In this space we talk a little more softly and walk a little more quietly. We are listening for God. SERVICE OF RECEPTION OF NEW MEMBERS Presentation of New Members Question to New Members Prayer Welcome by the Congregation People: We welcome you with joy as partners in the common life of this church. We promise you our friendship and prayers as we share the hopes and labors of the Church of Jesus Christ. By the power of the Holy Spirit may we continue to grow together in God s knowledge and love to be witnesses of our risen Savior. The Sharing of the Church Covenant Unison: We are banded together as a Christian church to maintain the worship of God, to proclaim the gospel of Christ, to develop in all people a consciousness of their relations and duties to God and to each other, and to inspire them with love for truth, passion for righteousness, and enthusiasm for service. To this end we pledge our loyalty to Christ and covenant with each other to express His Spirit in our individual and corporate life; to live together as Christians and to submit ourselves to the government of this church, working, giving, praying for its increase, its purity, its peace, and seeking in every way to make it a power for the building up of the kingdom of God. Welcoming New Members with the Right Hand of Fellowship COMMUNION *B LORD ORD'S PRAYER *BENEDICTION Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

WELCOME NEW MEMBERS June 7, 2015 Matthew and Katie McKay 18 Kirkland Circle, Wellesley, MA 02482 781-237-1815, mgmckay@gmail.com The McKays are originally from Massachusetts and have lived in Wellesley for 7 years. Their children, Isabel Mae and Ella Grace are in grades 3 and 1 respectively. Writing and swimming are favorites among their activities. TODAY S NOTES A Note of Thanks from David Carrier To all at Village Church: Sunday was the most wonderful experience! If I had to single out only one day in my life to call the best, Sunday would be the one. It was a visual delight to look out at all of you and tell you what Village Church means to me. I was overwhelmed by the expressions of your appreciation. It felt like a renewal of vows. I was in full receiving mode, taking in every word and face. I could have fainted at the gift! Such an exceedingly high expression of generosity. My friends from the outside said the joy and devotion in the congregation were palpable, both in the beautiful service and at the party. What a church! A microcosm of God s creation alive and rejoicing for what we share with each other. I look forward to our next Sunday and those for years to come. With affection and deep appreciation, David Dolphe Richard has Retired After nearly 35 years of working at Village Church Dolphe Richard has retired, again. After serving as the full-time sexton, Dolphe retired years ago but couldn't stay away and continued to work part-time faithfully and diligently, accommodating any request (and working here long before there was an elevator). This makes him the longest serving sexton in the life of Village Church. The staff will be honoring him at our staff meeting on Tuesday, June 16 and would like to present him with a BIG card signed by the congregation. Please find time to stop at the Welcome table to sign the card for Dolphe. The card will be available in Village Common for signing through Monday, June 15. Pastoral Care There are many ways that the Pastors and Members of Village Church help one another during the challenges of life. If you have, or know of, a pastoral care need, contact Liz Garrigan-Byerly at 781-235- 1988 ext. 14. In case of a pastoral emergency, please call 334-521-2481. If you would like to offer the gift of your care to others in this community, please email care@wellesleyvillagechurch.org. Member Photos 8 am - 12 pm Our photographer Damon Bates will be back in the chapel taking photos for our member directory. Come

any time before or after either service to have your picture taken. A copy of the photo will be our gift to you, and including your face in our directory will be your gift to this congregation and to the new pastors who are joining us in the Fall. Thank you to all of you who had your picture taken for our new photo directory. If you want to see all these wonderful photos, you can access the directory in the Member s Area of our website: www.wellesleyvillagechurch.org/members-area. You can also upload your own photo by logging on to the members area. Contact Kent Hewitt with questions: kenthewitt@verizon.net. Memorial Path Video The members of the Churchyard Committee have hired Wes Ennis Film Company to assist us in the creation of a video for Memorial Path. Memorial Path is where we provide for memorializations and burials of cremated remains in Village Church cemetery. It is our goal to capture in this video brief vignettes of the life and community of Village Church and its members. Wes will conduct this work quietly and in the background as much as possible. Today, Wes will be videoing the choir rehearsal and 10 am worship service. We wanted our members to be aware of this. Please join us as we welcome Wes into our church home for this project. Blessing of the Animals 2-4 pm, Portico Join us for this community-wide celebration, including animals from a local shelter and the Wellesley Police Department. Drop by between 2-4pm with your pets and farm animals (leashed or in carriers), photos of pets that cannot attend and stuffed animals to receive a blessing. Opportunity to serve at Rosie's Place Sunday, June 7 June 7 is our last chance until the fall to serve a meal at Rosie's Place, the women's shelter in Boston. The first Sunday of each month, the Village Church through its Service Ministry funds a meal and supplies four volunteers to help prep and serve it, along with staff and volunteers from all around the Boston area. Rosie's organizes everything, so all we have to do is be there from 3-5:30 pm (leave Wellesley at 2:30, get home around 6). Our volunteers find this to be a fun and rewarding experience. High school age and above are welcome. Please contact Jane Amara by email (amarajf@yahoo.com), phone or text (781-267-2564) to volunteer. Christian Meditation Practice 5:00-6:00 pm, Burtt Chapel High School Youth Group 6 pm, Youth Room For information about youth programs, contact Pam Emslie at 781.235.1988 x15 or pam@wellesleyvillagechurch.org. BULLETIN NOTES Volunteer Signup for Family Promise We especially need some overnight hosts, see below! Hosting June 14 - June 21 Family Promise Metrowest is a cooperative, interfaith partnership offering hope to homeless families with

children. We especially need some overnight hosts who need to have been trained before our week begins. On Sunday, June 14, families will move into our Church and call it HOME for one week. Our classrooms will once again be transformed into bedrooms for each family. Volunteers will be bringing meals, serving, eating together, playing with children, doing laundry, setting up rooms or staying overnight. There are opportunities to participate and make a difference. Contact Christina Oliver, 617-529-9246 with questions. Take the Training and Become an Overnight Host! Training is required for those working directly with guests and anyone over 12. Training will be held at Village Church on June 9, at 7 pm. Families are invited to participate. To sign up to attend the training, contact Tricia Kibbe (781-235-1988 x17). Calling All Gardeners! Together let s honor God s creation by planting, tending and harvesting vegetables in our Village Church Gardens located on the church grounds and at the Weston Road Gardens. No matter your age, your gardening skills or the color of your thumb, you are welcome to participate for whatever your schedule allows. Harvested vegetables are donated to the Wellesley Food Bank. This is our 5th year in partnership with the Wellesley Food Bank. If you are at all interested in this church ministry, please contact Kathleen Woodward at kathleenewoodward@gmail.com or Pam Emslie at pam@wellesleyvillagechurch.org Wonderful Service & Outreach Opportunity for Families! In 1877, the Reverend Willard Parsons, a minister of a small, rural parish in Sherman, Pennsylvania, asked members of his congregation to become volunteer host families for children who were growing up in New York City tenements. This simple idea has remained the same for over a century. By hosting a Fresh Air child, you are opening your hearts and homes to share the joys of summer in our community. On first time visits to host families, Fresh Air children are six to 12 years old and stay for one week. Fresh Air children love simple pleasures like running barefoot through the grass and gazing at starfilled skies. Buses arrive and depart in Natick. Weeks available: July 9 - July 16 and July 30 - August 6. For more information, please call Amy Hille, Fresh Air Volunteer and Host Mom at 508-333-0199 or email amyhille@yahoo.com. You can also visit our website at www.freshair.org. Hello Church Moms! We will gather for our next dinner at 7 pm on Monday, June 8 at the home of Tina Choi (8 Appleby Road, Wellesley). Dinner will start at 7:30 pm. We hope to see all of you there! We welcome moms with children of ALL ages as we are all on the same journey It takes a village. We hope you will find that village within the Village Church Moms' Group! Please call Kerry Evans for more information or to be added to our email list, 508-655-0345 or email her at kegevans@gmail.com.
