CLEAN & UNCLEAN FISH Lev 11:9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat. Lev 11:10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you: To appreciate the division between clean & unclean fish, we need to understand the significance of the waters, seas and rivers.

Waters, seas represents multitude of people Isa 17:12 Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters! Isa 57:20-21 But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked. Rev 17:15 The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues. (see: Jer. 47:1-2; 51:55)

Rivers peoples, Gentile nations Isa 8:7 The Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks: (see: Isa. 23:3-10) Jer 46:7-8 Who is this that cometh up as a flood, whose waters are moved as the rivers? Egypt riseth up like a flood, and his waters are moved like the rivers; and he saith, I will go up, and will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and the inhabitants thereof. (see: Eze. 29:3-9; Psa. 72:8; Isa. 18:1-7)

Fish individuals in the multitude of people Luke 5:1-10 Now when (Jesus) had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. And when they had this done, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.

Mat 4:18-19 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. Hab 1:13-14 (God) art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he? And makest men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them?

Clean fish had to have scales and fins. Why? Because these features in clean fish enabled them to resist the flow of the seas and rivers: that is, the influence of the multitudes of people. The Hebrew word for scales is translated coat of mail in 1Sam. 17:5 And he had an helmet of brass upon his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass

Scales, as used in 1Sam. 17:5,38, represent an armour of protection in spiritual battle. Eph 6:13-17 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Brethren in Christ must not go with the flow. 2 Tim 2:3-4 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. 2 Cor 10:3-5 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Fish with scales and fins are able to swim against the strength of the waters current. Some fish, like salmon, swim thousands of miles for the purpose of returning back to the place of their own beginning to spawn lay eggs in bringing forth life.

Fish without scales and fins are not able to resist the power of the waters influence.

Eph 5:5-7 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God... Be not ye therefore partakers with them. 1 Pet 4:3-4 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:

1 John 2:15-17 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. Eph 5:11-12 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.

We must resist the influences of the multitudes of people, for their ways run into the waters of death. Josh 3:15 And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,) Josh 3:16 That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho.

When the Children of Israel passed over Jordan into the Land of Inheritance under the leadership of Joshua (Heb. Jesus Heb.4:8; Acts 7:45) the waters that flow into the Dead Sea were cut off that flow from the city of Adam. LESSON: The process of life that will ultimately end in death from Adam s sin were turned back (Rom. 5:12-17)

Accordingly, waters can also refer to the grave Jonah 2:1-6 Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly, And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of the grave cried I, and thou heardest my voice. For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God. (Psa. 18:16-17; 1Pet. 3:20-21).

Obvious prophesies of Christ Psa 18:16-17 He sent from above, he took (Messiah), he drew me out of many waters. He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me. Psa 69:14-15 Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters. Let not the waterflood overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the grave shut her mouth upon me.

The principle that the waters represent the multitudes of the wicked, as well as the grave is most significant when we consider the subject of Baptism. Mat 3:13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. John 3:23 And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized. Like fish drawn out of the sea, the redeemed come forth from the waters of baptism.

Rom 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Rom 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. Rom 6:5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Rom 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

CLEAN & UNCLEAN FOWL Lev 11:13-20 And these are they which ye shall have in abomination among the fowls; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the osprey, And the vulture, and the kite after his kind; Every raven after his kind; And the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckoo, and the hawk after his kind, And the little owl, and the cormorant, and the great owl, And the swan, and the pelican, and the gier eagle, And the stork, the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat. All fowls that creep, going upon all four, shall be an abomination unto you.

Ospray called the Fish Hawk, the most widespread bird of prey; hunting fish in shallow wetlands. They hate water, but strike very quickly at speeds of up to 40 MPH. These unclean birds are those which consume flesh! Saints must not have an appetite for the flesh.

Flesh reps. fulfilling the desires of our nature Rom 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. Rom 13:13-14 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. Gal 5:13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

Gal 5:17-25 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Gal 6:8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. Eph 2:3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

Phil 3:3 For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. 1 Pet 4:1-2 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. Like most predatory birds, the Ospray is subtle, swift, unsuspecting, cunning and extremely powerful.

Vulture can smell carrion from more than a mile away. Prefer dead carcasses 12 to 24 hours old. During the hot summer months they will defecate on their own feet to cool them off. To fend off enemies, it will throw up on them; even babies have this ability. They do not build nests, but inhabit trees rocks etc. In short, they feed off death!

Raven known for eating carrion; with tradition noting their favorite food is human flesh; beginning with the eyes (they have less power than other birds that feed on carcasses). See Gen. 8:7. Edgar Allen Poe s poem The Raven reps. The darkness, depression and death associated with the Raven. ( Even our own poet Acts 17:28; Tit. 1:12)

Cuckoo mocked in the world for it s bizzare habits: Cuckoo s Nest. They lay their eggs in the nests of other birds. After hatching the cuckoo chick will throw remaining birds and eggs out of the nest, leaving it the sole bird to accept food from the adult. The cuckoo mother is Without natural affection 2Tim. 3:1-6.

Owl hunts at night, using it s unique vision to capture prey. They eat the entire kill: bones, hair, teeth, claws. Later regurgitating the parts that are undigested. They fly silently through the night. They cannot move their eyes, but their necks move ¾ of their body. Eyes are bigger than their brain.

Cormorant wades in shallow pools of water, which remain from a condition of drought. They eat fish trapped in drought pools. Thus, their survival, like many wading birds, very much depends on the cycle of drought, and life trapped in pools of shallow water (Amos 8:11; Deu. 32:1-2; Joel 2:23; Psa. 68:8-11; Isa. 55:10-11).

Lapwing considered by many the most beautiful bird in the world. It s outward appearance being very attractive, it s characteristics do not match the beauty of the bird. The lapwing feeds upon insects and bugs found in mud and in the dung of other animals. (1Pet. 3:1-7; 1Tim. 2: 9-15; Phi. 3:7-14; 1Sam. 16:7).

Gier Eagle this unique bird migrates back to the land of Canaan to hatch its young, and is known for its dedicated protection of its young. However, when the chicks are older and able to fly, the gier eagle leads them back to Egypt! (Pro. 13:24 notes).

QUESTION: Why are these clean? Lev 11:21-22 Yet these may ye eat of every flying creeping thing that goeth upon all four, which have legs above their feet, to leap withal upon the earth; Even these of them ye may eat; the locust after his kind, and the bald locust after his kind, and the beetle (cricket) after his kind, and the grasshopper after his kind. What is the principle involved: why are the locust, cricket and grasshopper clean?

ANSWER: Because they only use the earth when necessary, as they leap toward the heavenly things. John 3:12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? John 3:31 He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.

James 3:14-17 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. 1 Cor 15:47-49 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. Locusts, Crickets, Grasshoppers imitate birds leaping to reach the heavens. (Mat. 3:4)

Lev 11:27 And whatsoever goeth upon his paws, among all manner of beasts that go on all four, those are unclean unto you: whoso toucheth their carcase shall be unclean until the even. Dogs represent Gentiles. Mat 15:21-28 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel It is not meet to take the children's bread, and cast it to dogs. And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. (see: 2Pet. 2:22)

Luke 13:31-32 The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod will kill thee. And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected. (Mat. 8:20; Neh. 4:3)

QUESTION: Why are these unclean? Lev 11:29-31 These also shall be unclean unto you among the creeping things that creep upon the earth; the weasel, and the mouse, and the tortoise after his kind, And the ferret, and the chameleon, and the lizard, and the snail, and the mole. These are unclean to you among all that creep: whosoever doth touch them, when they be dead, shall be unclean until the even. ANSWER?

They all burrow in the earth. Weasels hunting in the holes, and deep dens for prey. The Hebrew root word for weasel means: fleeting moment of time, temporal, passing Note Psa 17:14 From men which are thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes. Psa 89:47-48 Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain? What man is he that liveth, and shall not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah.

If Unclean: Divine Process of Cleansing Lev 11:32 And upon whatsoever any of them, when they are dead, doth fall, it shall be unclean; whether it be any vessel of wood, or raiment, or skin, or sack, whatsoever vessel it be, wherein any work is done, it must be put into water, and it shall be unclean until the even; so it shall be cleansed. Cleansing Value Of The Word John 15:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. (Hag. 2:11-14)

Unclean Garments Lev 11:39 And if any beast, of which ye may eat, die; he that toucheth the carcase thereof shall be unclean until the even. Lev 11:40 And he that eateth of the carcase of it shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even: he also that beareth the carcase of it shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even. Contact with the Unclean the heathen world makes it necessary to purify our covering.

Rev 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. Rev 3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. Rev 3:4 Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.

Rev 16:15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. Jude 1:23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. In baptism, we put on the Christ atoning clothing. But, this oftentimes becomes spotted by the unclean actions of the flesh. Therefore, a continual washing of the Water of the Word (Eph. 5:26) is necessary.

Multiple Feet, Belly: Status of The Unclean Lev 11:42 Whatsoever goeth upon the belly, and whatsoever goeth upon all four, or whatsoever hath more feet among all creeping things that creep upon the earth, them ye shall not eat; for they are an abomination. The belly is a symbol for one who indulges in the things of the flesh, and gratifies the natural man. In following the curse of the serpent, the Apostle applies this to self-serving brethren.

Rom 16:17-18 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple. Phil 3:17-19 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)

Spiders, having more feet than four are unclean. They represent a reliance on their own flesh to save them; which in fact, snares them. Job 8:13-15 So are the paths (multiple feet) of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish: Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider's web. He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure. Isa 59:1-8 Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: (continued )

But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness. None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity. They hatch cockatrice' eggs, and weave the spider's web Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands.

Such is the Law of Clean and Unclean Animals. Additionally, the principle of fasting represents denying one s self fleshly gratification. Psa 35:13 But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own bosom. Mat 4:2 And when Jesus had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungered. Mat 4:3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. (Acts 13:1-3; 14:23 etc.)

CONCLUSION: Lev 11:44-47 For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. For I am the LORD that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy. This is the law of the beasts, and of the fowl, and of every living creature that moveth in the waters, and of every creature that creepeth upon the earth: To make a difference between the unclean and the clean, and between the beast that may be eaten and the beast that may not be eaten.
