Sabbath Afternoon: Holy Spirit Sabbath School Lessons Lesson 6 The Holy Spirit and Living a Holy Life As we have done previously, lets have a look at the texts quoted in the Read for this Week s Study to see what they teach before beginning with the lessons: 1 Peter 1:14 16; Isaiah 6:3; Hebrews 12:14; 1 Corinthians 6:11; 1 Timothy 1:8; Psalm 15:1, 2. 1 Peter 1:13 16 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: 15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; 16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. The above text mentions As obedient children and links that with being holy in all manner of conversation for I am holy It is Jesus Christ that is the subject of these verses and it says that He is holy. It fits then that as Jesus Christ is holy and his spirit is part of him, therefore his spirit is holy, the spirit of Christ. If we have the the spirit of Christ, who is holy in us, as Christ promised us, then He will lead us to live an obedient, holy life. Notice the word conversation in v:15, it means G391 ἀναστροφή - anastrophḗ 1) manner of life, conduct, behaviour, deportment We are called to a holy manner of life. This is only possible through the spirit of Christ in us. Notice the following scripture, spoken by Jesus Christ himself that links obedience with the gift of the holy spirit. As mentioned in the last lesson, to worship a trinity god is to break the first commandment and would automatically disqualify anyone worshipping it from receiving the gift of the spirit of Christ and those people would not be able to live a holy life without the only source of holiness, Jesus Christ the only begotten Son of God. If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 1 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Isaiah 6:1-3 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the LORD sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. 2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. 3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory. Here the prophet Isaiah sees a vision of God the Father sitting on His throne in heaven. The Father is the Originator of all holiness as it is His life, His spirit, that is sent to us through His only begotten Son Jesus Christ. We shall deal with the rest of these texts when we come to them during the lesson. Hebrews 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: 1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Timothy 1:8 But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully; Psalm 15:1-2 Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill? 2 He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart. Memory Text: 1Corinthians 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The above text shows what man is made up of spirit and soul and body. What person in their right mind would even suggest that your whole spirit, which is the spirit of man, is a separate person to the soul and body of a man? Yet we are told over and over again throughout these lessons that the Spirit of God is a separate being to God the Father, totally ignoring the context of scripture and common sense.

The comments below the memory text do exactly that, they talk in glowing terms about God and His holiness then proceed to separate God from His Holy Spirit and insinuate by the word He with a capital H that His spirit is someone else other than God. We have proved beyond any doubt that this is in fact not truth at all but gross error. Sunday: The Holiness of God 1 Peter 1:13 16 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: 15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; 16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. Other texts quoted in the comments: Psalm 89:18 For the LORD is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our king. Isaiah 40:25 To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One. Jeremiah 51:5 For Israel hath not been forsaken, nor Judah of his God, of the LORD of hosts; though their land was filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel. Ezekiel 39:7 So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel. Revelation 4:8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, LORD God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come. We agree with the statements made in the comments for this day s lesson, but what the writers have failed to see is that because God is holy, and they list His holy power, holy mercy, holy wisdom, holy love and that these are part of the holy nature of God, likewise His spirit, which is part of Him, is also holy. Please take note of the fact that the term holy spirit isn't even a name at all, but a combination of an adjective holy and a noun spirit, describing attributes of God. See the following from Strongs Lexion on these two words and comparing them with the word God and with the actual name of God 1 Thessalonians 4:8 He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit. Holy: G40 - ἅγιος - hágios Part of Speech: Adjective 1) most holy thing, a saint KJV usage: holy (161x), saints (61x), Holy One (4x), misc (3x). Spirit: G4151 - πνεῦμα - pneûma Part of Speech: Noun Neuter KJV usage: Spirit (111x), Holy Ghost (89x), Spirit (of God) (13x), Spirit (of the Lord) (5x), (My) Spirit (3x), Spirit (of truth) (3x), Spirit (of Christ) (2x), human (spirit) (49x), (evil) spirit (47x), spirit (general) (26x), spirit (8x), (Jesus' own) spirit (6x), (Jesus' own) ghost (2x), misc (21x). God: G2316 - θεός - theós Part of Speech: Noun Masculine KJV usage: God (1,320x), god (13x), godly (3x), God-ward (with G4214) (2x), misc (5x). LORD/Jehovah H3068 י הו ה - Yᵉhôvâh Part of Speech: Proper Name Description: 1) the proper name of the one true God a) unpronounced except with the vowel pointings of 0136

KJV usage: LORD (6,510x), GOD (4x), JEHOVAH (4x), variant (1x). Notice that the word God is still only a noun masculine, which describes what kind of being the text is talking about. That is not His name. His name, as we can see from the Hebrew H3068 is identified as a Proper Name and is what the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy call Jehovah. The Proper Name of the only begotten Son of God is Jesus. In His pre-incarnate form, His Proper Name was Michael. Even the word Christ isn t a name, but an Adjective G5547 - Χριστός - Christós Part of Speech: Adjective from χρίω; anointed, i.e. the Messiah, an epithet of Jesus:--Christ. KJV usage: Christ (569x). But still it is implied by this statement that the Holy Spirit is someone separate from Jesus Christ, which we have proven beyond any doubt that this is a gross error. The power of the Holy Spirit is the power of Jesus Christ himself, through the spirit of Christ Monday: The Nature of Holiness Firstly, the Spirit of Prophecy quote from Steps to Christ shows again the truth that it is the vivifying influence of the Spirit of God that is arousing His people to a holier life, in Christ Jesus. Read section texts: Ephesians 1:3-4 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Ephesians 5:25-27 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. Hebrews 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: The texts above, as before, show clearly what the Scriptures teach that God is the literal Father of our Lord Jesus Christ and that it is Christ who sanctifies and cleanses us by His word, which He says John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. And the Spirit of Prophecy, which is the Testimony of Jesus, explains it farther I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, Christ declares; no one cometh unto the Father, but by me. Christ is invested with power to give life to all creatures. As the living Father hath sent me, he says, and I live by the Father; so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me...it is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing; the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. Christ is not here referring to his doctrine, but to his person, the divinity of his character. Verily verily, I say unto you, he says again, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; and hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. {Review and Sabbath Herald April 5, 1906 Par. 12}

Again sadly, in the comments on the above texts we find confusion introduced by implying that the Spirit is separate from Christ in the following: Holiness is the fruit of the Spirit displayed in our lives as we walk by the Spirit with Christ every day To separate Christ from His holy spirit is to separate Him from His life, which is totally impossible for as it says below The Holy Spirit is the breath of spiritual life in the soul. The impartation of the Spirit is the impartation of the life of Christ. It imbues the receiver with the attributes of Christ. Only those who are thus taught of God, those who possess the inward working of the Spirit, and in whose life the Christ-life is manifested, are to stand as representative men, to minister in behalf of the church. {Desire of Ages 805.3} Tuesday: The Agent of Sanctification Texts quoted 1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. Titus 3:4-6 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; Hebrews 13:12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate. Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. 2 Thessalonians 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: 1 Peter 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied. Galatians 5:16-18 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. It is abundantly clear from the context of the above texts, comparing scripture with scripture that the Agent of Sanctification is God the Father, through His spirit which he sheds on us abundantly through the blood of Jesus Christ His Son and our Saviour Again, an effort is made to imply that the spirit is a separate being which we have seen is false. Wednesday: The Rule of Holiness is God s Law Romans 7:12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. 1 Timothy 1:8 But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully; Yes, true the law is a transcript of God s holy character, that is why it is holy.

Romans 13:10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Yes, these scriptures are so clear, but sadly, as we have seen before, the trinitarian is not keeping the commandments of God by love while ever they worship another God. Thursday: Pursuing Holiness Psalm 15:1-2 Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill? 2 He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart. Righteousness and truth go hand in hand, and to speak the truth and keep all of the commandments of God, which are righteousness, then you need the Spirit of God. God alone, through Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son canon enable us to pursue Holiness. I take objection to the statement apart from Christ and without the Holy Spirit we can accomplish nothing Again, putting a wall of separation between Christ and His spirit. Jesus said without me Ye can do nothing Since it is his spirit, the Spirit of Christ that enables us to do all things through Christ who strengthens us and the scripture says Ye are complete in Him, then why the need to separate Christ from His Spirit? There can be only one reason and that is that the enemy has an agenda to fill, to bring in confusion and thus place himself in a position where he can receive worship. He has accomplished this through the trinity doctrine so that the following Prophecies might come true 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. Revelation 13:4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? This has come true before our very eyes. The reason why the churches are weak and sickly and ready to die, is that the enemy has brought influences of a discouraging nature to bear upon trembling souls. He has sought to shut Jesus from their view as the Comforter, as one who reproves, who warns, who admonishes them, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it. Christ has all power in heaven and in earth, and he can strengthen the wavering, and set right the erring. He can inspire with confidence, with hope in God; and confidence in God always results in creating confidence in one another. {Review and Herald August 26, 1890 Par. 10} Sadly, this Prophecy has come true, 100%. The enemy has shut Jesus from view as the comforter from the SDA church and has placed himself there as God the spirit Friday Exerts from Christ s Object Lessons pp95-102 The leaven hidden in the flour works invisibly to bring the whole mass under its leavening process; so the leaven of truth works secretly, silently, steadily, to transform the soul. The natural inclinations are softened and subdued. New thoughts, new feelings, new motives, are implanted. A new standard of character is set up the life of Christ. The mind is changed; the faculties are roused to action in new lines. Man is not endowed with new faculties, but the faculties he has are sanctified. The conscience is awakened. We are endowed with traits of character that enable us to do service for God. {Christs Object Lessons 98.3}

The countenance is changed. Christ abiding in the heart shines out in the faces of those who love Him and keep His commandments. Truth is written there. The sweet peace of heaven is revealed. There is expressed a habitual gentleness, a more than human love. {COL 102.2} The two quotes above show that it is the life of Christ and Christ abiding in the heart that are our only means of holiness before God the Father. While we can see that this is the truth and as we have studied this week s lesson it has been confirmed over and over with the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy, yet still in the comments on Friday s lesson we find the following confusion We cannot be holy apart from obeying God s law, and we obey His law only as He Himself, the Holy Spirit, writes His law in our hearts and minds. Again, they are implying that the Holy Spirit is someone separate from God the Father or Jesus Christ. What more can we say than has already been said. Ephesians 4:4-6 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. Our German and Danish and Swedish brethren have no good reason for not being able to act in harmony in the publishing work. Those who believe the truth should remember that they are God s little children, that they are under His training. Let them be thankful to God for His manifold mercies and be kind to one another. They have one God and one Saviour; and one Spirit the Spirit of Christ is to bring unity into their ranks. {9 Testimonies to the Church 189.3} There is no mention of a third individual god called God The Holy Spirit in all of the Bible or the Spirit of Prophecy, but only the truth that there is one Spirit and it is in deed and in truth the Spirit of Christ. Amen
