Beit b The Hebrew Language Pastor Mark Biltz 12/05/2011 Letter Beit b In His own Words by L. Grant Luton Notes Bethany - date house Bethlehem - house bread Bethphage fig house Bethsaida fishing house What s the difference between the Scriptures and the Word of God? The Word of God is spiritual and alive. You can take the scriptures out of someone s hands but you can t take the Word out of their heart. The scriptures are the beautiful stained glass and the Word is the ray of sunlight coming through the glass. The Word is a person John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, Just as we communicate through Words God communicates with us through His Word Yeshua Just as the aleph represents the Father the Beit represents the Son. First letter of the Bible. <Bracha> As it is closed at the top, back and bottom it blocks from view all that comes before it. But issuing forth from the door of the house are the words of the Torah in which are hidden the secrets of the Torah. 1
Matthew 21:42 Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? Notes Colossians 1:16-18 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. Hebrews 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, The Jewish sages said when God spoke the world into existence, His words were not only one time commands but continue to echo and pulsate like a song through creation, to continue to uphold the universe. Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. In other words Yeshua was saying what the Father spoke at creation the heavens and the earth will pass away but what He says, His words will never pass away!! First Hebrew word in Lexicon beginning with Beit; 872 hab be-aw' from 935; an entrance to a building:--entry. 935 awb bow', a primitive root; to go or come Psalms 119:130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple. 874 rab ba'ar, a primitive root; to dig; by analogy, to engrave; figuratively, to explain:--declare, (make) plain(-ly). 875 rab be-ayr' from 874; a pit; especially a well: 2
Numbers 21:16,17 And from thence they went to Beer: that is the well whereof the LORD spake unto Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water. Then Israel sang this song, Spring up, O well; sing ye unto it: Notes 1254 arb bara', a primitive root; (absolutely) to create; 1129 hnb banah, baw-naw' a primitive root; to build Genesis 2:22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, 1124 anb b@na' (Aramaic), ben-aw' corresponding to 1129; to build: Ezra 5:2 Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem: Hebrews 11:10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. Beit like a sheep pen John 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. When released during the day, though free from the sheepfold, they now must walk in obedience to the Shepherd. Both the shepherd and the pen provide protection but following the shepherd is much more exciting. The walls of the sheep pen are like the written torah an external restraint. Obedience to the Shepherd is internal and more demanding but much more exciting! Genesis 1:6-8 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day. On the second day of creation God creates a home for the birds of the air and the fish of the sea. 3
And the second commandment is: Notes Deuteronomy 5:8 Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth: Beit represents duality Genesis 9:6 Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man. Heaven and earth, man and woman, light and darkness, this world and the world to come. Harmony in creation involves contrasting phenomena. Heaven gives light and rain. Earth receives it and produces fruit! The heaven can t say to the earth I m greater than you! I d like to see the sky produce an apple! Adam and Eve were not complete without each other. Leviticus 26:1-5 Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God. Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD. If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them; Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit. And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely. Nature responds when God s laws are observed. Genesis 3:17,18 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; Genesis 3:16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; By observing torah we can cause numberless forces of nature to function harmoniously. The sages taught that one hour in the world to come is worth more than the entire life of this world. 4
On the other hand, there is nothing in the World to come that can match one hour of a human studying torah in this world. Notes Because only in this world can you earn rewards in the world to come. Now is the only time to earn rewards. Once you enter the world to come you cannot perform even one more mitzvah to increase your share there. 1Corinthians 3:12-16 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? This world was created to provide us an opportunity to reach the highest possible in the world to come. Beit Means house alluding to the focal point of holiness on earth the Temple in Jerusalem. Isaiah 66:1,2 Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word. We were to be miniature sanctuaries. House is tyb = 412 Temple sdqm = 444 Difference is 32 the numerical value of lev bl heart. By putting your heart into your house it can become a sanctuary in miniature. 5
Notes Reisheet implies not only the first but implies the purpose of creation. For Reisheet. Reisheet is anything that is pre eminent in testifying to the greatness of the Creator Revelations 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. Torah/wisdom is Reisheet: Proverbs 31:26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. Proverbs 13:14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, Psalms 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. Proverbs 8:22-30 The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth: Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him; Israel is Reisheet: Jeremiah 2:3 Israel was holiness unto the LORD, and the firstfruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD. 6
Jeremiah 33:23-26 Moreover the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying, Considerest thou not what this people have spoken, saying, The two families which the LORD hath chosen, he hath even cast them off? thus they have despised my people, that they should be no more a nation before them. Thus saith the LORD; If my covenant be not with day and night, and if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth; Notes If not for my covenant(torah) to be studied day and night, I would not have established the ordinances of heaven and earth. Then will I cast away the seed of Jacob, and David my servant, so that I will not take any of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: for I will cause their captivity to return, and have mercy on them. 1Chronicles 17:21,22 And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt? For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, LORD, became their God. 7
