Peter Jankowski From: Peter Jankowski Sent: Wednesday, April 6, 2016 12:04 AM To: Mike Pennock (mapennoc@gmail.com) Subject: St. Patrick's News & Notes - April 4, 2016 (Group #1) Attachments: St. Faustina Poster.pdf ST. PATRICK S NEWS & NOTES APRIL 4, 2016 Dear Friends of the Mailing List: Last weekend, I had the honor of celebrating the 25 th Wedding Anniversary Mass of Nicolas & Ana Camargo at the parish. At the end of the Mass, I was able to present them with a special PAPAL BLESSING we acquired for them on this special occasion. Did you know that each month we offer special blessings to those who are celebrating wedding anniversaries at the parish? By doing so, we also have the opportunity to find who in the parish are celebrating milestone anniversaries (10, 25, 50, 60, 75 years etc.) and we also then can acquire a papal blessing for these couples as well. If you know of anyone celebrating milestone anniversaries, please contact us so that we can gift them with this special type of grace. As I stated in last week s Notes, our next big parish activity will take place on May 22 nd with our POLISH BUFFET AND PLAY PRODUCTION ON ST. FAUSTINA, which seems appropriate during the year of Mercy. We just acquired the tickets for both the dinner and the play - $15 for the dinner, $10 for the play or $20 for both. We made it possible to have the play and the dinner in our gym, so feel free to call the office to reserve your tickets today! I also have been working with Greg Bucciarelli and our annual SUMMERFEST CELEBRATION in our Gymnasium, this year being held on June 25, 2016. Some in the parish have suggested we have an outdoor cookout and Pig Roast at the event, which we will be happy to do. We will also have the normal fare at the event; hopefully our 1

Knights might be able to help with the cooking and inviting those from the area to join us. It s a great way to bring the community together this summer, so feel free to join us at this event. On Wednesday night, I am being honored by the Spanish Center as one of those they are honoring in 2016 as their PERSON OF THE YEAR. Tickets are $30 for one person, $25 for a couple and $200 for a table of eight. In my mind, this award is more about what we have done to build bridges in the St. Pat s community more than it is about me, so feel free to join us at Mt. Carmel Church on Wednesday night (April 6 th ) and celebrate the Spirit that is St. Patrick s Church! I also am including the blurb for our CCW WOMEN S SPRING DINNER at Cemeno s Restaurant on April 20 th, since the lazy priest did not have a chance to put it into the bulletin until next week. If you are interested in attending, please contact the office ASAP! Once a month below our announcements, I include the RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWSLETTER, which is full of lots of information about the faith. Our DRE Julie Dillenburg offers us these great opportunities to build our relationship with God and the parish, so take a moment to see what she offers us each month below. On Wednesday morning, I am offering a funeral Mass for Evelyn Vercellotti, our oldest parishioner at the age of 99. Evelyn was a sweetheart who lost both husbands and many of her friends. Julie Dillenburg was kind enough to visit Evelyn on a weekly 2

basis (often on a daily basis). Please pray for Evelyn, who suffered greatly these last few years but certainly is in a better place in her everlasting rest. Rather than attaching the Bulletins, Homilies and Newsletters as I have done in the past, I think it best to just send them as links from our www.stpatsjoliet.com website so that the files I am sending out are not so large. This way, those with limited sized inboxes will not have a problem getting these communications. Thanks for understanding! Here is the Bulletin for April 9-10, 2016: http://www.stpatsjoliet.com/_modules/document.php?action=downloaddocument& fid=531 (To access all the bulletins, you can go to http://www.stpatsjoliet.com/documents/collection/bulletin) Here is the homily for April 2-3, 2016 (The Second Sunday of Easter): http://www.stpatsjoliet.com/_modules/document.php?action=downloaddocument& fid=532 The homilies from past weeks can be found at this link: http://www.stpatsjoliet.com/documents/collection/fr-pete-s-homilies Have a blessed week! In This Issue Confirmation Information First Communion Information Quick Links Our Parish Saint Patrick's Our Diocese Diocese of Joliet The Bishops Site God's blessings to all this Easter Season and always! THE GREAT SUNDAY The celebration of the Easter Vigil is the beginning of the season of Easter. The Vigil is the Christian feast par excellence, the feast of new birth, new beginnings, salvation renewed, and humanity restored to the Lord. While the Vigil marks the end of the paschal fast, the end of the celebration of Holy Week, and the end of repentance and conversion for which Lent prepared the community, it is much more a beginning. It is the beginning of a new season of grace and a time of joy and thanksgiving, for Easter is not one day or one solemnity-it is a fifty day celebration, and the fifty days from Easter Sunday to Pentecost Sunday together comprise what the General Instruction terms "the great Sunday". Divine Mercy April 3rd Divine Mercy Sunday is April 3rd. Sunday, The Church has designated the Sunday following Easter, Divine Mercy Sunday. Jesus Himself appeared to St. Faustina and told her that He would like the following prayer known as the Divine Mercy Chaplet said throughout the world. How to Recite the Chaplet The Chaplet of Mercy is recited using ordinary rosary beads of five decades. Optional Opening Prayers You expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls, and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us. O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in You! Begin with the Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Apostle's Creed Then, on the large bead before each decade: Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity, of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world. 9

On the ten small beads of each decade, say: For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. Conclude with (Say 3 Times): Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world. Optional Closing Prayer Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself. During this Year of Mercy as a family discuss how you can live out these beautiful works of mercy and become "visible witnesses of the faith": Spiritual Works of Mercy Admonish the sinner. 14

Instruct the ignorant. Counsel the doubtful. Comfort the sorrowful. Bear wrongs patiently. Forgive all injuries. Pray for the living and dead. Corporal Works of Mercy Feed the hungry. Give drink to the thirsty. Clothe the naked. Shelter the homeless. Visit the sick. Visit the imprisoned. Bury the dead. "I have asked the Church in this Jubilee Year to rediscover the richness encompassed by the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. The experience of mercy, indeed, becomes visible in the witness of concrete signs as Jesus himself taught us. Each time that one of the faithful personally performs one or more of these actions, he or she shall surely obtain the Jubilee Indulgence. Hence the commitment to live by mercy so as to obtain the grace of complete and exhaustive forgiveness by the power of love of the Father who excludes no one. The Jubilee Indulgence is thus full, the fruit of the very event which is to be celebrated and experienced with faith, hope and charity." Pope Francis Sept. 1, 2015 "As we can see in Sacred Scripture, mercy is a key word that indicates God's action towards us. He does not limit himself merely to affirming his love, but makes it visible and tangible. Love, after 15

all, can never be just and abstraction. By its very nature, it indicates something concrete: intentions, attitudes, and behaviors that are shown in daily living. The mercy of God is his loving concern for each one of us. He feels responsible; that is, he desires our wellbeing and he wants to see us happy, full of joy, and peaceful. This is the path which the merciful love of Christians must also travel. As the Father loves, so do his children. Just as he is merciful, so we are called to be merciful to each other." Pope Francis The Face of Mercy #9 16
