A Service of the Word WLS Auditorium December 9, 2016

Welcome in the Name of Jesus We are glad you can join us for this chapel service and a tour of our campus today. As you walk around the Seminary, remember that this is your Seminary. You support this campus with the offerings you give at your church and with your prayers. As you worship this morning, remember that God has blessed each one of you with special talents and abilities to carry out his work. You, too, can be one of the messengers who prepares people for Jesus return. Our prayer with your visit today is that you will be encouraged in your walk with Christ. We also pray you will think deeply about who God has made you to be and consider using your gifts as a public minister of the Gospel. God be with you. X X X 1 P age

Opening Hymn: #703, My Soul in Stillness Waits 2 P age

Inovcation Stand. L In the name of the Father and of the Son X and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen. Confession of Sins L Dear friends, let us approach God with a true heart and confess our sins, asking him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to forgive us. C Lord of life, I confess that I am by nature dead in sin. For faithless worrying and selfish pride, For sins of habit and sins of choice, For the evil I have done and the good I have failed to do, You should cast me away from your presence forever. O Lord, I am sorry for my sins. Forgive me for Jesus sake. L Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. In his great mercy God made us alive in Christ even when we were dead in our sins. Hear the word of Christ through his called servant: I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son X and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen. 3 P age

Kyrie L Lord Jesus, you forgive us all our sins Lord Jesus, you feed us with the Word of Life Lord Jesus, you raise us to new life Leader Congregation Glory to God The choir sings the refrain. All repeat the refrain and sing it again as indicated. 4 P age

Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Refrain Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. Refrain For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen. Final Refrain 5 P age

Prayer of the Day L Let us pray one God, now and forever. C Amen. Be Seated. Devotion: Malachi 3:1-5 1 I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come, says the Lord Almighty. 2 But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner s fire or a launderer s soap. 3 He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. Then the Lordwill have men who will bring offerings in righteousness, 4 and the offerings of Judah and Jerusalem will be acceptable to the Lord, as in days gone by, as in former years. 5 So I will come to put you on trial. I will be quick to testify against sorcerers, adulterers and perjurers, against those who defraud laborers of their wages, who oppress the widows and the fatherless, and deprive the foreigners among you of justice, but do not fear me, says the Lord Almighty. 6 P age

Alleluia Stand. L Prepare God s path, make straight God s highway: and all shall see the saving pow r of God. C Sing the refrain twice. Prayer Lord s Prayer C Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen. Lord s Blessing L The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look on you with favor and give you peace. C Amen. 7 P age

Closing Hymn: Come, O Long-Expected Jesus C Come, O long-expected Jesus, Born to set your people free; From our sins and fears release us by your death on Calvary. Israel s Strength and Consolation, Hope to all the earth impart, Dear Desire of every nation, Joy of every longing heart. Born your people to deliver, Born a child and yet a king, Born to reign in us forever, Now your gracious kingdom bring. By your own eternal Spirit Rule in all our hearts alone; By your all sufficient merit Raise us to your glorious throne.
