The Feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ the King Last Sunday after Pentecost November 26, 2017 9:00 AM I O G D in omnibus glorificetur Deus that in all things God may be glorified Romans 15:5-6 1 Peter 4:7-11 Giving Thanks to God Through Worship! Welcome! We hope that your time in worship will encourage and strengthen your relationship with God. We share the greatest hope through the One who loves you most Jesus Christ! We invite all worshipers today to fill out the Fellowship Pew Pad during the offering portion of worship. You are also invited to make a prayer request on the green card, which is in the pew rack and then place the card in the offering plate or hand them to an usher. We pray God s blessings upon you and invite you to worship with us every Saturday at 5:00 pm and Sunday morning at 9:00 am. Christ the King Sunday celebrates the all-embracing authority of Christ as King and Lord of all things. Many churches recognize this Feast on the last Sunday after Pentecost, the Sunday before Advent. AS WE GATHER WE PRAY Lord Jesus Christ, so govern our hearts and minds by Your Holy Spirit that, ever mindful of Your glorious return, we may persevere in both faith and holiness of living; for You live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. The paraments are white, the symbolic color of purity, holiness, glory, and joy. THIS WEEK S MEMORY VERSE (November 26 December 2) Hebrews 9:28: Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him. Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. [Matt.28:19b] Pastor: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. People: But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. [1 John 1:8-9] Silence for reflection on God s Word and for self-examination. Pastor: Let us confess our sins to God our Father. People: Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen. Pastor: Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. [John 20:19-23] Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer. Amen. [Psalm 19:14] 2

GLORIA IN EXCELSIS Glory to God in the Highest (Sung LSB page 154) Pastor: Glory to God in the highest, and peace to His people on earth. Lord God, heavenly king, almighty God and Father: We worship You, we give You thanks, we praise You for Your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God: You take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us. You are seated at the right hand of the Father; receive our prayer. For You alone are the Holy One, You alone are the Lord, You alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, In the glory of God the Father. Amen. [Luke 2:14; John1:29] SALUTATION and COLLECT OF THE DAY Pastor: The Lord be with you. [2 Timothy 4:22] People: And also with you. 3

Pastor: Eternal God, merciful Father, You have appointed Your Son as judge of the living and the dead. Enable us to wait for the day of His return with our eyes fixed on the kingdom prepared for Your own from the foundation of the world; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. + THE WORD OF GOD + OLD TESTAMENT: EZEKIEL 34:11-16, 20-24 For this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I myself will search for my sheep and look after them. As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness. I will bring them out from the nations and gather them from the countries, and I will bring them into their own land. I will pasture them on the mountains of Israel, in the ravines and in all the settlements in the land. I will tend them in a good pasture, and the mountain heights of Israel will be their grazing land. There they will lie down in good grazing land, and there they will feed in a rich pasture on the mountains of Israel. I myself will tend my sheep and have them lie down, declares the Sovereign LORD. I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak, but the sleek and the strong I will destroy. I will shepherd the flock with justice. Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says to them: See, I myself will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep. Because you shove with flank and shoulder, butting all the weak sheep with your horns until you have driven them away, I will save my flock, and they will no longer be plundered. I will judge between one sheep and another. I will place over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he will tend them; he will tend them and be their shepherd. I the LORD will be their God, and my servant David will be prince among them. I the LORD have spoken. (NIV) Pastor: O Lord, have mercy on us. People: Thanks be to God. (Responses are spoken) NEW TESTAMENT : EPHESIANS 1:15-23 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God s people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my 4

prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way. (NIV) Pastor: O Lord, have mercy on us. People: Thanks be to God. Please rise THE HOLY GOSPEL: JOHN 18:33-37 All Hail, King Jesus BOB 4 Pastor: The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the 18 th chapter. Pilate entered the Praetorium again, called Jesus, and said to Him, Are You the King of the Jews? Jesus answered him, Are you speaking for yourself about this, or did others tell you this concerning Me? Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered You to me. What have You done? Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here. Pilate therefore said to Him, Are You a king then? Jesus answered, You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice. (NKJV) Pastor: O Lord, have mercy on us. People: Thanks be to God. 5

APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Please be seated HYMN Lord of Glory, You Have Bought Us LSB 851 THE SERMON Hebrews 9:28: Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him. (NIV) After the sermon please rise and sing: HYMN OF RESPONSE We Know That Christ Is Raised LSB 603 PRAYER OF THE CHURCH O God, hear the prayers and petitions of Your people. We do not make requests of You because we are righteous, but because of Your great mercy (Daniel 9:18). SHARING GOD S BLESSINGS: THE OFFERING (Please be seated) We urge you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into His kingdom and glory. 1 Thessalonians 2:12 Because we value your presence in worship and desire to serve you as best as we can, please use this time to complete the Fellowship Pew Pad and pass it to your neighbor. Prayer requests may be made by filling out the green card in the pew rack in front of you and placing it in the offering plate. MUSICAL OFFERING The Power of Your Love BOB 214 6

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING (Please rise) Pastor: We pray together: People: Heavenly Father, God of all grace, govern our hearts that we may never forget Your blessings but steadfastly thank and praise You for all Your goodness in this life. Through Your goodness You have blessed us with these tithes and offerings. We offer them and ourselves to Your service and humbly ask that You receive all we bring forward, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Pastor: Lord, remember us in Your kingdom and teach us to pray: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. BENEDICAMUS and BENEDICTION Pastor: Let us bless the Lord. People: Thanks be to God!
