PRINCIPLES IN SERVING GOD NEW TESTAMENT THE BOOK OF REVELATION

2 Book of Revelation

BOOK OF REVELATION The Only prophetic book in the new testament 27 books {4 gospels, 1 history, 14 Pauline Epistles, 7 Catholic, 1 Revelation} 3

AUTHOR John (1:1, 4, 9; 22:8) How many books in the new testament John wrote? He wrote five books: The gospel of John 1,2 & 3 John Revelation. 4

ABOUT THE AUTHOR He was one of the three that Christ always took with Him for major events Raising Jairus daughter (Luke 8:41) Transfiguration at Mount Tabour (Luke 9:28) In Gethsemane (Mat 26:36) During Jesus trial (John 18:15) At the Tomb ( John 20:2) 5

ABOUT THIS BOOK A door to heaven, how does it look, and who is there Most of the events of the book happen to St. John in visions in heaven. I was in the spirit He sees heaven and its inhabitants: The Throne of God, the 4 creatures, the 24 priests, the angels, the victorious church. 6

THE TITLE OF THE BOOK The inspired title of the book is "The Revelation of Jesus Christ." The Greek word "Apocalypses" is mentioned and it means "unveiling" or "uncovering" or "revealing." 7

AUTHOR In no other New Testament book does a writer refer to Jesus as the Word except John and Revelation (Jn. 1:1; Rev. 19:13). In no other New Testament book does a writer refer to Jesus as the Lamb of God (Jn. 1:29; Rev. 5:6). 8

DATE Most scholars agree that it was written around year 95 AD. After the destruction of Jerusalem 9

WAS THERE ANY SIMILAR PROPHECIES IN THE OT? Ezekiel and the Heavenly throne Daniel and the History of the world Jeremiah and the call for repentance 10

WHY SHOULD WE STUDY THE BOOK OF REVELATION? God wanted to declare to us His will for the future He told John to write what he sees. To assure us of His second coming, His love and constant protection for us. To warn us of what will happen so we don t despair 11

WHY SHOULD WE STUDY THE BOOK OF REVELATION? Provides answers to many of the modern heresies Who is Christ Is there an after life And a lot more 12

WHY SHOULD WE STUDY THE BOOK OF REVELATION? God ordered us to do so Rev 1:3 Blessed is the one who reads and hears the Words of this prophecy, and the ones keeping the things written in it, for the time is near. 13

THE "SEVENS" OF REVELATION Number "7" is repeated several times in Revelation, as it is the book that sanctifies the present time (7 days of the week) based on a review of our glorious past when God granted us great salvation. 14

SEVENS IN REVELATION 1- The Seven churches (1:4,11) 2- The Seven Spirits (1:4) 3- The Seven Messages to the Seven Churches(2:1; 3:22) 4- The Seven Lamps of burning fire (4:5) 5- The Seven Seals (5:1; 6:1-8; 8:1) 6- The Seven Horns (5:6) 7- The Seven Eyes (5:6) 8- The Seven Trumpets (8:2; 11:9) 9- The Seven talking thunders (10:3,4) 15

SEVENS IN REVELATION 10- The Seven thousand Slain due to the earthquake (11:13) 11- The Seven Heads (12:3) 12-The Seven Crowns on his heads 13- The Seven Bowls and the Seven Plagues (15:1; 16:21) 14- The Seven Mountains (17:9) 15- The Seven Kings (17:10) 16 The Seven Personages (12,13) 17- The Seven judgments 16

SEVENS IN REVELATION 18- The Seven "New" things 1. New heaven (21:2), 2. New earth (21:1), 3. the new city (21:2), 4. new nations (21:24), 5. new river as crystal (22:1), 6. new market (street) (22:2), 7. new tree of life (22:2). Briefly, Jesus Christ says: "Behold, I make all things new" 21:5 17

18

THE SEVEN SEALS 1 : A white horse: The Lord goes out conquering and to conquer in His church. 2 : A red horse: The bloodshed of the martyrs 3 : A black horse: famines - the appearance of heretics (spiritual famine). 4 : A pale horse: Death due to an epidemic - the appearance of the Antichrist (the death of souls). 19

THE SEVEN SEALS 5 : The appearance of the martyrs' souls resting under the altar, they ask for divine justice. 6 : Earthquake, the sun becomes black, the moon becomes like blood and the stars fall (the fall of some of mighty men in faith). 7 : When opened (8:1), there was silence in heaven, astonished at the Lord's coming 20

21

THE SEVEN TRUMPETS Trumpet 1: hail and fire, mingled with blood, are thrown = the warning affects the resources of living. Trumpet 2: a great mountain burning with fire is thrown = a violent leader appears to punish a rebellious population. Trumpet 3: a great star falls = some leaders fall into heresy as Nestorius did. Trumpet 4: a third of the stars darkens = life darkens in the eyes of people. 22

THE SEVEN TRUMPETS Trumpet 5: devilish thoughts appear (9:1-12) = preparing for the Antichrist. They carry inner bitterness towards him who adopts and spreads them. Trumpet 6: Wars appear (9:13) at a specific hour, a battle arises at the river Euphrates, the place of the lost Paradise. It is a decisive battle: When it is time for the Antichrist to be doomed and for Jesus Christ to come, the battle becomes so severe. Trumpet 7: After Enoch and Elijah are raised, God's coming for judgment is announced and eternal happiness is verified (11:15-18). 23

24 Before the throne there was a sea of glass, like crystal. And in the midst of the throne, and around the throne, were four living creatures full of eyes in front and in back.

THE FOUR INCORPOREAL CREATURES The first living creature was like a lion The second living creature like a calf The third living creature had a face like a man The fourth living creature was like a flying eagle. The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. They do not rest day or night, saying: Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come! 25
