INTERNATIONAL HOUSE OF PRAYER UNIVERSITY MIKE BICKLE STUDIES IN THE BOOK OF REVELATION (SPRING SEMESTER 2014) Session 5 The Father s Throne and Jesus Exaltation (Rev. 4-5) Additional Study Materials ANSWERS TO THE FILL-IN THE BLANKS FOR THIS SESSION In Revelation 4-5, John described the majesty of the Father s royal court in heaven and the glorious occasion when Jesus took a scroll from the Father indicating HIS RIGHT TO RULE THE EARTH. Revelation 4 gives us the most detailed description of GOD S BEAUTY in the Scripture. The beauty of God s PERSON: how God looks, feels, and acts (Rev. 4:3) The beauty of God s PARTNERS: the Church enthroned, robed, and crowned (Rev. 4:4) The beauty of God s POWER: manifestations of power in lightning, thunder, voices (Rev. 4:5a) The beauty of God s PRESENCE (fire): on lamps, seraphim, and the sea (Rev. 4:5b-7; 15:2) His exaltation is manifest in part on earth now, and IN FULLNESS in the Millennium. Daniel prophesied that Israel s messiah would receive the LEADERSHIP of the earth forever. Many see this scroll as representing the TITLE DEED of the earth and Jesus ACTION PLAN (Rev. 6-19) By taking the scroll, He accepted RESPONSIBILITY to cleanse and rule earth. Jesus is the only man who was found worthy or DESERVING AND CAPABLE to take the scroll from the Father. Sang a new song: a prophetic song indicating the CHANGING OF SEASON in God s purpose. He is worthy or deserving of the authority to be the SUPREME LEADER of the earth because He is our redeemer and creator. He is able to open the seals or ADMINISTRATE God s judgments and rule the earth forever. The Father promised to make Jesus PREEMINENT in all things. Jesus inheritance includes having the full authority over SEVEN SPHERES OF LIFE: power, riches, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and blessing. He will receive the full obedience of ALL OF HIS PEOPLE in the Millennium. All the money and NATURAL RESOURCES on earth will be openly seen as under Jesus leadership in the Millennium. Jesus will minister in the fullness of the SUPERNATURAL. All will FULLY COOPERATE with Jesus leadership realm of God s glory.

Session 5 The Father s Throne and Jesus Exaltation (Rev. 4-5) Page 2 Additional Notes: I. THE GRAND DRAMA IN HEAVEN (REV. 5:1-14) A. Revelation 5 describes Jesus destiny on the earth as a Man. He is fully God and fully man. B. The Lord gave the dominion or authority of the earth to Adam as a representative of the human race (Gen. 1:26-28). The Father will never take this stewardship back from the human race. The first Adam forfeited his authority to Satan (Lk. 4:6). Jesus, as the last Adam, came to earth as a Man to win back the dominion of the earth for humans (1 Cor. 15:45; Rev. 5:10). 45 The first man Adam became a living being. The last Adam [Jesus] became a life-giving spirit 47 The first man [Adam] was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man [Jesus] is the Lord from heaven. (1 Cor. 15:45 47) II. JESUS TAKES THE SCROLL FROM THE FATHER S HAND (REV. 5) A. Many see this scroll as representing the title deed of the earth and Jesus action plan (Rev. 6-19) 1 I saw in the right hand of Him [the Father] who sat on the throne a scroll sealed with seven seals. 2 I saw a strong angel proclaiming, Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals? 5 One of the elders said, the Lion of the tribe of Judah has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals 6 in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God 7 He took the scroll out of the right hand of Him on the throne. (Rev. 5:1-7) B. Open the scroll: Jesus will open the scroll and loose or break the seven seals (v. 2, 5). 1. Some in the Church do not have a theology of a loving God who uses judgment to remove injustice and oppression. Some think that judgment is a contradiction to love. God s judgments remove what hinders love. 2. He will replace all the governments on earth so that love and righteousness fill the earth. C. Who is worthy: He is the only man with the wisdom, love, and power to open the seals or release the judgments in a way that produces righteousness and love across the earth. He is the only man with the ability to lead all the governments of the earth in the Millennium. D. Prevailed: Jesus as a man prevailed over Satan by His obedience and death. III. JESUS IS WORTHY (REV. 5) A. The highest governmental council around God s throne consists of the living creatures (angelic) and the elders (human). They fell awestruck before the worthy Man and boldly proclaimed their agreement with the Father s decree to make Jesus the supreme leader of the whole earth forever!

Session 5 The Father s Throne and Jesus Exaltation (Rev. 4-5) Page 3 8 When He [Jesus] had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. 9 And they sang a new song, saying: You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals [release end times judgments]; for You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood [proved Your leadership and love] out of every tribe and tongue 10 And have made us kings and priests to our God; and we shall reign on the earth. (Rev. 5:8-10) 1. They fell down: They were awestruck by the one Man the worthy Man 2. You were slain: Jesus is the ultimate rich young ruler who gave up all for love (Lk. 18:22). When He had all the power He made every choice for love, proving His good leadership. B. You are worthy: Jesus being worthy to be the supreme leader of the earth has three applications. 1. Jesus deserves it: He is deserving of the authority to be the supreme leader of the earth because He is our redeemer and creator. a. Redeemer: Because of His love in redeeming us, He deserves obedience (Rev. 5:12). We desire to obey Him out of gratitude for what He did for us on the cross. He has proven Himself as worthy (deserving) of the authority to be the supreme leader of the earth because He made every choice for love and righteousness. Thus, we trust His leadership to open the scroll (judgment) and rule the earth s resources 12 Worthy is the Lamb who was slain (Rev. 5:12) b. Creator: Because of His power in creating us, He deserves obedience (Rev. 4:11). We are mandated to obey Him by the very fact that He created us. 11 You are worthy for You created all things... (Rev. 4:11) 2. Jesus is capable: He is able to open the seals or administrate God s judgments and rule the earth forever. 3. Jesus is worth it: He is worthy of our wholehearted love C. We gain insight into His worthiness by understanding the implications of Jesus becoming a Man. 1. Jesus had to become human forever in order to qualify as the redeemer for humans. It makes us love Him more when we understand that He did not become man for a short time to complete a task, but to include us in partnering with Him forever. 2. Jesus had to be judged with the divine wrath that we deserved so that we might be saved.

Session 5 The Father s Throne and Jesus Exaltation (Rev. 4-5) Page 4 3. Jesus had to live as a Man dependent on the anointing of the Spirit. Though He was never less than God after His incarnation, He lived as if He was never more than a man. (Ian Thomas) For 33 years, each miracle that He did was the result of looking to the Father in prayer with dependence on the Spirit. He shall continue to function as a Man anointed by the Spirit in His millennial leadership of the earth (Isa. 11:2-5). The very imperfect analogy of a laptop being powered in two ways gives some insight into this; the battery is an internal source of power and the plug-in an external source of power. 2 The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might... 4 But with righteousness He shall judge the poor He shall strike the earth [at His second coming] and shall slay the wicked. (Isa. 11:2 4) D. Jesus slain: this speaks of laying down His glory to become human, live obediently, and bear God s wrath. In 1887, Lord Acton wrote, Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely in opposition to Pope Pius IX's promotion of papal infallibility. E. Jesus inheritance includes having the full authority over seven spheres of life: power, riches, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and blessing. There are many aspects implied by each sphere. These are seven manifestations of His leadership and the response of the nations to Him. No other human being has ever possessed total authority across the earth in even one of these areas. 11 I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders 12 saying with a loud voice: Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honor and glory and blessing! (Rev. 5:11-12) 1. The word receive is significant in what sense does Jesus receive these? Jesus receives this anointing from God and response from man and the angels. 2. Our prayer: We pray for the release of Jesus leadership over these seven areas, knowing that what He will release in fullness after His return will be released in part in this age. F. Power (political): Jesus will publicly receive the political authority over all nations at His return. 1. From the Father: The power over the nations that Jesus received from the Father at His resurrection will be openly manifest before all the earth. The Father will establish Jesus as King of kings in Jerusalem (Ps 2:6; Jer. 3:17; Rev. 19:16). 6 Yet I [the Father] have set My King on My holy hill of Zion [Jerusalem]. (Ps 2:6) 16 He has a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. (Rev. 19:16) 17 At that time Jerusalem shall be called The Throne of the LORD, and all the nations shall be gathered to it (Jer. 3:17)

Session 5 The Father s Throne and Jesus Exaltation (Rev. 4-5) Page 5 2. From the nations: Jesus receives this from His people on earth as they obey Him in the sphere of authority that has been entrusted to them. This will increase greatly after Jesus destroys the Antichrist s empire. He will replace every government with new leaders. In the Millennium, all the kings of the earth will be saved, and will base their national governments on the Scripture (Ps. 72:11; 102:15; 138:4; 148:11; Isa. 62:2; Rev. 21:24). 31 When the Son of Man comes in His glory He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him (Mt. 25:31 32) 11 Yes, all kings shall fall down before Him; all nations shall serve Him. (Ps. 72:11) 3. Our prayer: We intercede for Jesus victory and Satan s defeat in the political areas. This decree focuses on the collapse of the Antichrist s worldwide empire and government. G. Riches (financial): All the money and natural resources on earth will be openly seen as under Jesus leadership in the Millennium. 1. From the Father: Jesus received authority over all the gold and silver (Hag 2:8). The Lord will cause a total shift in finance from the kingdom of darkness to His kingdom. 8 The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine, says the LORD of hosts. (Hag 2:8) 2. From the nations: He receives this from all the leaders of the nations who will joyfully submit their riches to His leadership and worldwide plan (Isa. 60:5 13). 5 The wealth of the Gentiles shall come to you [Jesus in Jerusalem] 9 to bring their silver and their gold to the name of the LORD your God 11 [the gates] shall not be shut day or night, that men may bring to you the wealth of the Gentiles, and their kings in procession 13 to beautify the place of My sanctuary (Isa. 60:5 13) 3. Our prayer: We intercede for or decree Jesus victory and Satan s defeat in the political areas. This decree focuses on the collapse of the Antichrist s world economic system. H. Wisdom (intellectual): Jesus will use His great wisdom to bring every sphere of life to the fullness of the Father s plan (i.e., political, economic, family, agricultural, media, technology, environment, social institutions, etc.). Only Jesus has the solutions to heal the nations (bring world peace, end poverty, solve problem in the economy, agriculture, environment, education, the breakdown of the family, etc.). He will have leadership over all the intellectual property forever. He will establish new leaders, laws, and policies in all the nations to bring every sphere of society to its fullness and fill the earth with God s glory. His wise leadership will produce good fruit in the most difficult years in human history (Great Tribulation). 1. From the Father: As a Man, Jesus was endowed with supernatural wisdom by the Spirit. 2 The Sun of Righteousness [Jesus] shall arise with healing in His wings (Mal. 4:2)

Session 5 The Father s Throne and Jesus Exaltation (Rev. 4-5) Page 6 2. From the nations: He receives the benefit of what is gained by God s wisdom operating in the lives of the people in the nations as they submit to His leadership. Now, we ascribe wisdom to Him and therefore, we trust His leadership in our lives. 3. Prayer: We intercede for the release of God s wisdom now and the failure of the ways of darkness. This decree focuses on the collapse of the Antichrist s strategies and policies. I. Strength (physical/emotional): Jesus received supernatural physical and emotional strength in His resurrected human body. He will never weary of His work as He steadfastly labors as He leads the nations. He will have strength in His inner man (Eph. 3:16) so as to continue steadfastly as He restores the nations and contends against all resistance. 1. From the Father: Jesus received supernatural strength from the Father who gave Him a glorious, resurrected human body. He will never weary of His work as He steadfastly contends against all resistance to fill the earth with God s glory and to rule it forever. 14 He who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus (2 Cor. 4:14) 5 He [Jesus] said: a body You [the Father] have prepared for Me. (Heb. 10:5) 2. From the nations: The nations will love Jesus with all their strength or resources including their time, words, energy, and influence (Mk. 12:30). The nations will gladly offer to Jesus the fruit of their physical strength and labor with all its resources. All the benefits of the labor force and human resources on the millennial earth will be submitted to Him and will serve His plans to establish love and righteousness on earth. 3. Our prayer: We intercede for the release of God s strength now in our lives and the leadership of His kingdom and the weariness and failure in the ways of darkness. This prayer focuses on the Antichrist s strength failing him and weariness in his leadership. J. Glory (spiritual): Jesus will minister in the fullness of the supernatural realm of God s glory (Isa. 11:2; 35:5-7; 40:5; Jn. 3:34). The glory of God appeared several times to Moses and the children of Israel (Ex 16:7, 10; 24:16-17; 33:22; 40:34 35; Lev. 9:6, 23; Num. 14:10, 21; 16:19, 42; 20:6) 23 Then the glory of the LORD appeared to all the people (Lev. 9:23) 14 the priests could not stand to minister because the glory of the LORD filled the house (2 Chr. 5:14) 10 The glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of meeting before all the children of Israel 21 Truly, as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD. (Num. 14:10, 21) 5 The glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together (Isa. 40:5) 4 Behold, your God [Jesus return] will come with vengeance He will come and save you. 5 Then the eyes of the blind hall be opened 6 and the lame shall leap like a deer. (Isa. 35:4 6)

Session 5 The Father s Throne and Jesus Exaltation (Rev. 4-5) Page 7 1. From the Father: The Father anointed Jesus with the Spirit without measure (Jn. 3:34). For example, even in State meetings He will be able to release the glory of God and the gifts of the Spirit, to heal the sick, etc. 34 for He [the Father] gives [to Jesus] the Spirit without measure. (Jn. 3:34; NAS) 2 The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom (Isa. 11:2) 2. From the nations: The nations will submit to Jesus all that is gained by the glory of God operating in their lives. 15 The nations shall fear the name of the Lord, and all the kings of the earth Your glory. (Ps 102:15) 12 he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do 13 that the Father may be glorified in the Son. (Jn. 14:12 13) 3. Our prayer: We intercede for the release of God s supernatural power in our lives and others. We decree that the Antichrist s supernatural ministry be hindered and exposed as false. K. Honor (relational): Jesus will be the most praised, adored, respected, and listened-to man in all the nations. He will also be the most talked-about and emulated role model on earth. All in the nations will honor and love Jesus with their obedience (Mt. 22:37). To honor Jesus is to obey and serve His plan for the nations. Paul spoke of honoring our parents with respectful obedience (Eph. 6:1-2). A dictionary definition of honor is to publicly esteem one who has a superior standing by showing them obedience, unusual respect, and listening to their words with reverence. All will honor and glory or boast in Jesus with loving delight and joyful trust. Paul gloried in Christ (Phil. 3:3, NIV, NAS). Children glory in their father (Prov. 17:6), young men glory in their strength (Prov. 20:29) and we glory in God s name (Ps. 105:3; 43:4). 1. From the Father: God honors Jesus by giving Him favor and calling all to love Him. 17 For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. (2 Pet. 1:17) 4 Jesus answered, It is My Father who honors Me (Jn. 8:54) 2. From the nations: Jesus will be the most obeyed, respected, and listened-to man and the most talked-about and emulated person on earth. 24 The nations and the kings of the earth bring their honor into it [New Jerusalem]. (Rev. 21:24) 11 Yes, all kings shall fall down before Him; all nations shall serve Him. (Ps. 72:11)

Session 5 The Father s Throne and Jesus Exaltation (Rev. 4-5) Page 8 a. To honor Jesus includes praising and worshiping Him. All will minister to Jesus by declaring His worth in an unceasing way on earth as it is now in heaven. All will honor and bless Him with affectionate adoration in a personal and national way. b. They will give their love, adulation, and praise to Him with great delight. He will be the magnificent obsession of all the nations. He will be preeminent in their minds, affections, and conversations. The fame of His name will cover the earth. c. All the kings will worship Jesus extravagantly. 4 All the kings of the earth shall praise You, O LORD (Ps. 138:4) 11 Kings of the earth and all peoples; princes and all judges of the earth; 12 both young men and maidens; old men and children. 13 Let them praise the name of the LORD, for His name alone is exalted; His glory is above the earth 14 He has exalted the horn of His people, the praise of all His saints a people near to Him. (Ps. 148:11-14) 11 From the rising of the sun, even to its going down, My name shall be great among the Gentiles [nations]; in every place incense [worship] shall be offered to My name for My name shall be great among the nations, Says the LORD of hosts. (Mal. 1:11) 3. Our prayer: We intercede for the release of honor for Jesus in our lives and in others. We pray that honor for Antichrist be hindered L. Blessing (social) all will fully cooperate with His leadership resulting in the mightiest work force in history. The nations will bless all of His plans and policies. In other words, they will agree and cooperate with them by putting their resources behind them. To bless Jesus includes offering adoring praise and affectionate agreement with His policies and plans by fully cooperating with His leadership. Note: to honor someone is to esteem them, but to bless them is to cooperate with them. Both honor and blessing includes praising Him. 1. From the Father: Jesus received great blessing from the Father 17 I [the Father] will make Your [Jesus ] name to be remembered in all generations; Therefore the people shall praise You forever and ever. (Ps 45:17) 2. From the nations: All in the nations will bless Jesus and His leadership. By receiving such affectionate affirming cooperation from the nations, He will have the mightiest, largest and most loyal, productive, unified, and joyful work force in human history. 17 Men shall be blessed in Him; all nations shall call Him blessed. (Ps. 72:17) 4 All the kings of the earth shall praise You when they hear the words of Your mouth. (Ps 138:4)

Session 5 The Father s Throne and Jesus Exaltation (Rev. 4-5) Page 9 3. Our prayer: We intercede for the release of cooperation and unity in the Church under Jesus leadership. We decree the hindrance of cooperation with the Antichrist s leadership. M. During the Millennium, Jesus will receive all the power (governmental authority), riches (money and natural resources), wisdom (intellectual ability and property), strength (physical strength, including the labor force), glory (supernatural power), honor (all will love and esteem Him with obedience), and blessing (affectionate agreement with His policies with unified cooperation). N. Summary: By understanding the beauty of Jesus as the Scripture describes in the Millennium, we will love and magnify Him more. Isaiah prophesied of Jesus beauty being openly seen by all in context to His return to rule the earth in the Millennium (Isa. 4:2; 28:5; 33:17; Ps. 45:2-5). 2 In that day the Branch of the Lord [Jesus as Man] shall be beautiful and glorious. (Isa. 4:2) 17 Your eyes will see the King in His beauty (Isa. 33:17) 1. Jesus will be the most powerful, wealthy, wise, loved, praised, obeyed, respected, listened-to, and talked-about Man on the earth. He will be seen as having the dominion over all the land, people, money, governments, human resources, angels, etc. 2. Since Jesus has such love and power, we know He will fulfill all of His promises too. IV. HOW TO USE REVELATION 5:12 A. We intercede for their release knowing now that what Jesus will release in fullness after His return will be released in part in this age. We cry for Jesus to come in this way now. The Antichrist will seek to dominate these seven areas of society on a global scale. B. Application #1 Adoration: As we meditate on the beauty of Jesus and His leadership over the nations (Rev. 5:12), it fuels and strengthens our worship as we cry, Worthy is the Lamb! C. Application #2 Intercession: We intercede for the release of Jesus leadership over these areas, knowing that what He will release in fullness after His return will be released in part in this age. D. Application #3 Information: We are informed of Satan s tactics to challenge this 7-fold inheritance of Jesus. He will intensify this attack as we draw closer to the Lord s return. Thus, we are to make a 7-fold prophetic decree about Jesus leadership in warring against darkness. The Antichrist will seek to control these same seven spheres of life (Rev. 13). E. Application #4 Commitment: We are to recommit ourselves often even now to Jesus according to these truths because He is worthy.
