FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH Welcome in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Bibles (blue cover) and hymnbooks (brown cover) are provided for your use. A nursery is available in the lower hall for infants and toddlers. Washrooms are also located in the lower hall. If you wish to have a cushion or hard of hearing headset, please speak to one of the ushers who will be happy to obtain these items for you. We invite you to complete one of the blue Visitor Cards in the pew rack and place it in the offering plate toward the end of the worship service. This will help us get to know you better! Please silence cell phones and other electronics. Speak softly, move slowly and allow each one present to listen for God s voice. Many people have allergies to fragrances and perfumes, so we try to keep our church a scent-free zone in consideration of the health and wellbeing of others! Thank you! Should you wish to have someone pray with or for you, today s Deacon-on- Duty will be pleased to meet with you following the worship service. Please come to the front, west side pew. Prayer of the day: Father, we ask You to keep the church in godliness, that through Your protection we may be kept safe from all evils, gain ever deeper understanding of Your word and give ourselves over to serve You in good works. This we ask in the name of Jesus, Your Son, Our Lord. Amen. CBM s Lebanese partner s newsletter available in the foyer. When bombs kept falling near her home in the centre of Homs, 12 year old Shams and her family fled the Syrian city, eventually coming to Lebanon. Shams was fearful and psychologically drained by what she had experienced, and lost a year of education because of the war. But then her mother heard about a church based school that is supported by CBM s partners. Read the newsletter to hear the impact the school had on Shams and other initiatives being taken across Syria and Lebanon. In appreciation for your time, you and your family member will each receive $25.00. For more information about this study or to volunteer for the study, please contact: Natasha Gallant 306-585-5341 gallnat@uregina.ca Health Psychology Laboratory This study has been reviewed and received approval through the Research Ethics Board at the University of Regina. This information is available on the tables in the east and west foyers. The Tuesday night Adult Discussion Group will be looking at the remarkable story of William and Catherine Booth, their mission work with the poor of London and what became of it. 8
LEARNING FOR LIFE Worship 101 beginning November 15 th in the library Facilitated by Rev. Dr. Mark McKim Have you questioned why we even bother with Sunday worship together-why not just do it on our own? Why are things in a certain order? Why do we sing the Gloria Patri after the Psalm? Why do we have several Scripture readings every Sunday, when a lot of churches only have one? What do some of those strange words in the bulletin, like invocation, collect, lesson and benediction mean? Now is your chance to ask and think through these and other questions with our senior minister, for ONLY four Sundays from 9:30-10:30 beginning on November 15 th in the Library. Learning for Life presents WORSHIP 101. The subjects to be covered will include: -What does worship actually mean? -What are the four circles of worship? -Why bother with Sunday worship? -What are the by-products of corporate worship? -Why does the order of service/structure matter-or does it? -The Fourfold Pattern for Corporate Worship (Praise, Confession, Word, Response). Faith In The Home beginning November 15 th : Lower Hall Facilitated by Collin Carbno A continuation of the fruitful informal discussions centered around the Faith-in-the-home sessions that were held in the spring. Same rules apply; feel free to bring your children along. In particular, our starting point each week will be a brief discussion around the various psychological theories of parenting and their interaction with various principles from the bible connected with child rearing. Some of the discussion will be on the parenting theories of Thomas Gordon, and a quick look at his 12 communication blockers (4 per week for 3 Sundays), such as why praising children often backfires. Feel free to bring your favorite parenting books and share what you found helpful or not. The class is expected to last 4 Sundays. Each week is somewhat independent so feel free to participate as you feel able. 9
