Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam For the greater glory of God... Dear Parish Family, May, a time of rebirth in nature, is fittingly dedicated to Our Lady, the Mother of our life in Christ and our spiritual mother. It is a great practice during this month of May to find some particular and concrete way to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary. Some popular devotions to Our Lady include praying the Memorare, reciting the Angelus prayer at either 6am, 12 noon or 6pm (replaced in the Easter season by the Regina Coeli), wearing her brown scapular or Miraculous Medal, praying the rosary, and honoring her through small acts of love and sacrifice. Next Sunday, May 13, is the feast day honoring Mary as Our Lady of Fatima, named for her appearances to three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal, in 1917. Two of the children, St. Jacinta and St. Francisco, were canonized in Fatima by Pope Francis last year on May 13, marking the 100th anniversary of Our Lady s appearance there. Mary s message at Fatima still resonates for each of us today: A call to conversion of heart, repentance from sin, reparation and devotion to prayer, especially the rosary the ultimate prayer to Jesus through Mary. May also brings First Holy Communion to our second graders at a special 9am Mass on Saturday, May 12. Please include them in your prayers this week as they prepare to receive Jesus in first Holy Communion for the very first time. We also pray in a special way for our eighth graders preparing to receive the sacrament of Confirmation on Wednesday, May 16 at 7pm with Bishop Campbell. Peace and blessings, Fr.
