Many of you enjoyed our winter wonderland last weekend, and I must admit that the kid in me comes out when it snows. However, the pastor in me is reminded that bad weather caused us to miss opportunities to bless one another through fellowship and to be blessed by January 15, 2017 Ronald S. Cava, Senior Minister God in Bible study and worship. Even though the coming weekend is a holiday for many and our youth will be on Winter Retreat, I do hope the rest of us will make a robust effort to be present and fulfill our potential as stewards of the kingdom of God. The new year brings a push to ramp up and complete our vision process that started last summer. The next steps will be guided by an excellent lay team cochaired by Nancy Bobbitt and Brandon Russell. The team consists of members from five generations and represents those who have been a part of FBC for many years as well as newer emerging leaders. Joining Nancy and Brandon will be Ashley Bean, Clara Bobbitt, Celia Brinker, Jerry Ellington, Julia Falkner, Marian Faulkner, Kathy Gay, Jim Goodwin, Chris Hines, James Johnson, Jennifer Long, Jim Markham, and Jeanne Pearson. Our Deacon Officers, Betty Boyd, Ruxton Bobbitt, Jr., and Betsy Rublein will serve as ex -officio members of the team. Our staff will be vitally involved as well. Continued on next page

(Cavasations Cont.) This vision team will begin meeting on January 22. They will be sharing with you and wanting to hear from you in coming weeks. They will be studying community dynamics and listening to local leaders as well. Most importantly, they will be listening for God. This will not be a strategic planning process like that a business would employ. We will be listening to hear what God might be saying to us and looking to see where God is already at work in us, through us, and around us. This process will continue into Lent and will be a vital part of our Lenten discipline as we support these leaders and join them in prayerful listening. But don t wait until Lent. Begin praying now, encourage these people when you see them, and respond with enthusiasm to every opportunity they offer to share this journey together. It s time to turn to our God who is always making all things new! Ronald S. Cava, Senior Minister

OPPORTUNITY Emergency Men s Shelter Opportunities to Serve First Baptist Church has chosen Sunday, January 15 Saturday, January 21 as our second week to serve at the Emergency Men s Shelter. If you are able to volunteer, now is the time to step forward! Please contact John Sigmon at johnt.sigmon@yahoo.com or (919) 691-4047 if you re interested. Year-to-Date Financial Report as of December 31, 2016 Budget Income Needed...$724,108.00 Actual Budget Income... 703,461.18 Budgeted Expenditures... 724,108.00 Actual Expenditures... 724,160.81

Changes in the Sanctuary Two major things are happening in the Sanctuary. We are in the process of having the original six pendant light fixtures rewired and fitted for LED bulbs. Over the next few weeks the fixtures will be removed one at a time while they are refurbished. Hopefully this will improve ambient and reading light during worship services and events in the Sanctuary. Also, thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, we have a lovely new Yamaha grand piano in the Sanctuary. The former Baldwin piano has been moved to the Fellowship Hall, and the Kranich and Bach piano from the Fellowship Hall has been moved to the parlor. That leaves us with one too many pianos! The former parlor piano, a small, attractive light-oak Everett home console piano needs a home. If you know someone who might be interested, please call me at 252.438.3172 or email markhopper@fbchenderson.net. Grace and Peace, Mark Hopper, Minister of Music & Organist
