Pastor s Corner ~ Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, In June 2008 I began my assignment as your pastor here at Sacred Heart. Over the course of my time of service here I ve been blessed by the Lord in countless ways and have had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people. Over the past six years I have faced significant pastoral challenges particular to our parish which I have always strived to meet and overcome. I have given the parish my all and, after consulting with the Archdiocese, have decided that it would be best to move on to a new assignment at the standard time next month when the Archdiocese does most of its personnel changes. A new pastor is scheduled to be named for our parish at the end of May and will begin here on Monday, June 30th. I am scheduled to receive my new assignment at that time as well and will also have a start date of June 30th. I will keep you posted as soon I hear who your new pastor is and where I will be going. Moments of transition in assignment are particularly sensitive times in the life of a priest. Please keep your incoming pastor and myself in your prayers. I promise to keep you in my prayers as well! God Bless, Father Hamill Stewardship Corner ~ How we can relate the shepherds history to our own journeys with Christ? To fully understand the implication of what Jesus says in the Gospel we need an awareness of how shepherds and their flocks functioned in Jesus time. There were many shepherds who knew the sheep of their flock and the sheep knew them. At night multiple shepherds and flocks would gather at a large sheepfold. There was a gatekeeper there who would allow them entrance. When it was time to go back to the fields, each shepherd would call his sheep, perhaps by name, and they knew him and followed him. That is the image which is most accurate about Jesus as our Good Shepherd. He knows each of us by name and has called each of us individually. In this instance in the Gospel Jesus is more than the shepherd; He is also the gatekeeper. We are called by name, but we must respond to that call, and we must recognize that it is through the gatekeeper, through Jesus, that we can gain access to heaven and to holiness. Jesus is more than the shepherd and the doorkeeper though. He is also the door itself. In some cases there were sheepfolds in the fields used exclusively by a particular shepherd and his flock. After the sheep were inside for the night, the shepherd would literally lay across the door to protect them. That is Jesus to us; He is not only our shepherd and the one who controls entrance, He is the door itself. It is well to remember on this Fourth Sunday of Easter what the Lord first told us: Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. - See more at: www.thecatholicsteward.com Peace, Kaitlyn Wiant 0132 Sacred Heart Parish Sunday, May 11, 2014

Lily's Gift is a ministry that provides support to parents carrying to term following a prenatal diagnosis that utilizes the perinatal hospice model of support while following the ethical teachings of the Catholic Church with regard to the dignity of human life, disability advocacy, and end of life issues. God gives purpose to each person no matter how long or short their life expectancy. Lily s Gift includes a Gifting support that provides baptismal/burial gowns that are provided to the families that we are ministering to. Gifting affirms the dignity of the baby, encouraging and supporting the parent s decision to carry to term and parent the child, for a precious moment in some cases. We are currently in need of wedding gowns and 1 st Communion dresses, used or new, clean or stained. The dresses will be made into baptismal/burial gowns and given to parents for their infants who have been named and loved for their short presence here on earth. Thank you for generously supporting our ministry. Please contact Kathryn 610-998-9198 or Dos 610-416-2720. For more information about Lily s Gift, please visit www.lilysgift.org.
