Youth mission trip After all the Masses on June 10 th and 11 th, our parish teens, from this summer s Mission Trip, will be handing out Faith based bracelets, bookmarks and notepads. The donations will support the great group of our teens who are raising money to go on their CHWC Mission Trip to Plattsburg, New York. There they will work with Catholic Heart Work Camp out in the community to help residents in need as well as spend time developing their faith. All money collected will help pay for their trip and travel expenses. Please support the youth of our parish as they put their hands and feet where their faith is. Stained glass windows Please remember that the first phase of our stained glass windows restoration will begin soon. Special thanks to Margaret & Richard Bourgque and an Anonymous donor, who have already made donations to this maintenance project in our parish. May the Lord bless them for their generosity and thoughtfulness to their parish family.

Special thanks to Deacon Al and Cathy (The following is an excerpt of the announcement that was made at all Masses this past weekend:) My dear friends, over the past few weeks, I have received a few emails and a two or three people have asked me directly and indirectly through others, about Deacon Al Kucinksi. As you may have noticed, his name has been removed from the bulletin and from our website, and at this time, I feel that you have the right to know why. Growing up in Coventry, RI, I remember that our parish was the parish where problem priests were sent to live with our pastor Father Doyle. Many times we would meet a priest on the weekend and the next month he was gone and no one ever said anything. This not only happened once, but over eight times when I was a child. Each and every time, I always thought, the people had the right to know where these priests went and why, but nothing was ever said. In former assignments, very similar situations arose and once again no one was told what happened and why. Again, I thought, the people had the right to know, but nothing was ever said. Let me first state very clearly that Deacon Al is not sick nor has he resigned from the deaconate because of health issues. Secondly, and as important, Deacon Al did nothing illegal, immoral or against civil or Canon (church) Law which required him to step down from his ministry. However, at this time I have to balance his right to privacy and your right to know where your clergy are. Therefore, this is the reason why I am addressing the parish at all Masses this weekend about this important matter. This past month, Deacon Al submitted a letter to the bishop of the diocese requesting that he be relieved of his ministry here at Saint Joseph Church as a permanent deacon. Again, with respect to his privacy, I can assure you that I have done everything in my power, in charity and justice, for this not to happen. However, in the end, it was Deacon Al s own free will and personal choice to make this official request. On behalf of the parish, I want to thank Deacon Al for his many faithful years of being a parishioner of Saint Joseph Church and for his nearly fifteen years of diaconal ministry here in this parish. To the many couples he prepared for marriage, to those couples that he witnessed their wedding vows; to the same couples he prepared for their children s baptisms and baptized them as well, for is presence on the altar, his preaching, his presence at wake services and burials, both in our parish and throughout the diocese and for his ministry in the hospital as well, I am truly grateful for his dedication and service to the Lord and this local church. I also want to thank his wife Cathy for her constancy in supporting her husband in his diaconal ministry. Unlike the priest, the deacon s ministry involves two people; both he and his wife. For her many years of service before my assignment here in Newton and for her recent dedication to the Saturday Cleaners and the Saint Mother Teresa Food Pantry, again, I am personally grateful for her presence and selflessness. Finally, I ask you to pray for Deacon Al, Cathy and their family, that as he seeks to continue in his diaconal ministry in the diocese, he will find peace and contentment wherever he is next assigned by the bishop. And that is why his name is no longer in the bulletin nor on our website and because I thought you had the right to know. Thank you for your understanding, your patience and for the majority of you who did not resort to gossip and unfair assumptions at this time. It took this long to let you know because I had to wait until his letter was written to and accepted by the bishop, before I could make this public announcement. Thank you!

food pantry Many thanks to the faithful parishioners and friends that bring food for our Saint Mother Teresa Food Pantry each and every week. As the summer months are upon us and many are able to take vacations, this is not the case for the working poor and needy. With their children home from schools, they are even in more need to feed them. Therefore, we ask that all parishioners, young and mature, to bring at least one can or box of food each and every week. We continue to provide wallet sized printed cards which are available at the entrance of the church that list each month s pantry needs. This card can be a great help when you are doing your own family shopping to remember those are less fortunate than we. It is not how much we give but how much love we put into giving. - Saint Mother Teresa Spiritual book club Come join us as we begin to read Father James Martin, S.J. s book: Jesus: A Pilgrimage. His book tells about his travels through the Holy Land visiting important sites in the life of Jesus as well as his insights on how Jesus speaks to us today. We will meet on Tuesday, August 8 th at 7:00pm in the library in the school. There are still a few books available in the Parish Center for $12.00. Come and join us as we discuss this enjoyable book. All Are Welcome! Adult Bible > >> Study Father ST is looking into starting an adult Bible Study group over the summer months. Please let him know if you might be interested: FatherSTS@gmail.com or you may call the Parish Center and leave him a message.
