Religious leaders considered it unthinkable for a Jewish teacher to eat with people who were unclean. But Jesus cared more about saving souls than saving face. So, who are you eating with? Our Eats with Sinners series will introduce building relationships like Jesus did one meal (or cup of coffee) at a time. We will study who Jesus sat down with and how we should follow His example. It might shake things up a bit. It might change us in the process. It will probably make us uncomfortable. Jesus didn t come so we can sit in pews. Jesus ate meals with people so he could hang out with them for eternity.

On August 21st during all three of our Sunday morning services the following letter was communicated to the church by Vernon Janes on behalf of the elders: Greetings Crossroads Christian Church Community, The Elders collectively have recognized that Brother Matt has reached a milestone in ministering with Crossroads. He has been with us almost 8 years. This has been a blessing to us as a church. As a pastor works to take care of many people in many different directions, we as an eldership desire to take care of our pastors. The end result is that we are giving Senior Pastor Matthew Stieger a month sabbatical. This will happen in September of this year. He is to keep his suit in the closet (Haha!) during this time. It is intended that he not be on call for the entire month of September. He may be in Macon part of that time. He may be in Michigan reading books or even writing a book. He may be meeting with other ministers or developing mentor relationships. The use of the time is his and to be used at his discretion as God leads him. We have enough talent among us that even though his being gone will leave a void the ministry to the church body, we will continue with God's grace and mercy for one month. To bring greater clarity to this time and to prevent wondering or questions, here is what we would like to clearly communicate. This was decided on by the elder team as a whole. This sabbatical was given not because Matt is struggling in his job performance. He is not wrestling with deep seeded sin. He and Emily are not having problems in their marriage. This time is specifically for rest and rejuvenation of his heart, soul and mind. Matt will return back to the office October 3rd.While Matt is out of the office Justin will lead our staff and oversee our office administration. We are grateful for Matt s continued passion for Jesus and this church. If you have any questions, please contact any of the Elders. Working Together, Crossroads Elder Team

LEADERSHIP FYI With busy summer schedules at times the details fall through the cracks. Here are some highlights and details that have happened or will happen that the leadership wants to clearly communicate to everyone. Remodel has begun in the old building. This remodel phase will join our new and old building with ramps and stairs. It will also add a new baby and toddler nursery as well as classrooms. This will be completed by knocking out the old offices and bathrooms and dividing up the fellowship hall. You can expect to see dust, drop clothes, stud walls and a few keep out signs for safety. We may also have a short time period where it could be a longer walk to the bathroom. Please understand while we will work to move as quickly as possible, there will be a few Sunday s where flexibility is needed. Our worship ministry held an appreciation cookout for our worship volunteers. The 35 who were able to attend relaxed and laughed a lot. We are extremely thankful for their many hours of practice and preparation! Over the last three months we have had 11 baptisms at Crossroads! We had 218 different kids attend VBS 2016. This only happened because of the 126 incredible volunteers. This month we will double the amount of Life groups we have as a church. This will prayerfully create more opportunities where people can grow together. In August of 2016 Jon Kerns stepped in to lead our building and grounds ministry. We had almost 250 people attend out annual fall kickoff. It was a great night full of fun. (See Pictures below) This month we launch our first class of Dave Ramsey s Smart Money Smart Kids. We want families to be good stewards not just us as individuals. The last two Sunday s we have had over 500 people on Sunday morning! While we don t meet to have big numbers, we do meet to help each other follow Jesus. Every number represents someone else learning to follow Jesus.

Life Groups provide relationships with other Christians. Relationships are instrumental for spiritual growth. Being involved in a Life Group connects you with people to walk through stages of life together. Life Groups provide a safe environment of people who can encourage, challenge, listen and pray for you. They are people that will stand beside you through trials or people you can ask tough questions to. Most importantly Life Groups create environments of people to laugh and enjoy Jesus with. 2016 LIFE GROUPS ANNOUNCEMENT Beginning this fall, our Life Groups are going to become sermon based. What is sermon based Life Group? each week in the bulletin, discussion questions are provided that are tied to Sunday s topic. This will provide everyone a chance to have a thought process going into the discussion. Every Life group will be talking through the same scripture and questions. This will bring unity to our church as we grow together. This will hopefully eliminate some worries about joining a Life Group because you will know what will be talked about before you arrive. If you miss Sunday morning this DOES NOT mean you can skip Life Group, the questions will be available on the Crossroads APP and online where you can also listen to the sermon. Sermon based Life Groups are an exciting step for us as a church, don t be afraid and jump in!
