The spectacular Courageous Pages exhibit is specifically designed to help children engage with and explore the Bible. Youngest visitors to Museum of the Bible will quite literally step into Bible stories of courage. They ll walk among giant pages, scattered throughout the exhibit as if tossed around the room by a wind. Artistic representations of Bible characters will greet the children and help them discover: The Bible isn t a passive book, but one that can stir an active mind The Bible isn t a single story, but a collection of stories around a single theme The stories in the Bible are ultimately driven by human beings The Bible is full of young people just like them The centerpiece of Courageous Pages is a stunning visual pillar supporting the entire exhibit, similar in appearance to a tornado. The children have already experienced the pages strewn about now they ll discover they ve all come from this fantastic Book of Books. Children will meet Pages the Lion, the exhibit s mascot and guide, as they experience many handson activities designed especially for them from pedestal-style games like Get the Fish in the Boat to carnival-style games based on David and Goliath! For the younger children, a Noah s Arkthemed play structure and interactive games await. Courageous Pages awaits the youngest of Museum of the Bible s guests. The next Tremendous discoveries await the youngest visitors to Museum of the Bible. generation will have an exciting, inspiring encounter walking alongside biblical heroes as they battle giants, conquer kingdoms, shut the mouths of lions, and walk on water. Step By Step A mock-up of Museum of the Bible s glass roof is tested in Austria. We hope you have taken a moment to visit our live construction camera view. Tremendous progress is underway at the museum site in Washington, D.C., and the live-action cam gives you a bird s eye view (visit museumofthebible.org/museum and click View Live Camera ). This construction update, however, features news of an important step taken in Austria. What you see in these images is of a performance mock-up of the glass structure that will cover the fifth and sixth floors of Museum of the Bible. You ve seen the artist s renderings that include the beautiful glass roof. This mock-up was built in Austria to test the structural integrity of its design its preparedness for winds, water, earthquakes, or whatever nature may throw at it providing our team with a clear understanding of the Museum of the Bible plans to open its doors in the fall of 2017, just three blocks from the Capitol in Washington, D.C. craftsmanship necessary in building and installing the final product in Washington. Beneath the glass roof structure, Museum of the Bible guests will be treated to an extraordinary rooftop biblical garden a marvelous place for reflection. They will also be able to enjoy a 300-seat restaurant atop the museum, the glass providing an unobstructed view of the U.S. Capitol the only such view from a restaurant anywhere in Washington, D.C. We re one step closer still to the museum s grand opening; one step closer to guests from around the world and all walks of life having a museum experience a Bible experience like no other made possible by you! 2

Illuminating the Path to a Brighter Future Twenty-seven American ministry leaders traveled to Jerusalem with Museum of the Bible And all 27 returned to their communities with a new and deeper understanding of the Holocaust and its implications for today. The group attended an eight-day Christian Leadership Seminar hosted by Israel s Holocaust Memorial Yad Vashem. As the Jewish people s living memorial to the Holocaust, Yad Vashem safeguards the memory of the past and imparts its meaning for future generations. Attendees heard lectures by experts, experienced the moving stories of Holocaust survivors, visited significant sites and monuments, and discussed the importance of ending senseless violence in our day. This joint venture between Yad Vashem and Museum of the Bible can be culture-shaping. We live in a world beset by violence and loss. In these trying times we must look to the past to illuminate the path to a brighter future, said attendee Danise Peters, President and Founder of Ruth Remnant Ministry, Inc. and President of H. Fred Williams Gospel Ministries, Inc. in Alabama. Twenty-seven American ministry leaders attended a Christian Leadership Seminar hosted by Israel s Holocaust Memorial Yad Vashem. Inspired by Museum of the Bible s sponsorship, Yad Vashem organized the conference to include biblical analysis. Susanna Kokkonen of Yad Vashem explained, Leaders who attend our seminars carry on the critical work of Holocaust remembrance by sharing the history of this tragedy and the Bible s teachings of compassion with their communities. American religious leaders have a crucial responsibility to highlight the Holocaust s horrors to people today, and we re very appreciative of Yad Vashem for helping these leaders bring this story home to America, said Cary Summers, Museum of the Bible President. Just as we had hoped, this joint venture between Yad Vashem and Museum of the Bible can be cultureshaping. I am excited to bring the spirit of Yad Vashem back to my congregation, Peters said, and together, we will work to make a difference. 3

Civilization s First Book I t was the first major book printed with moveable type. It helped launch the printing revolution. And a good portion of this historical treasure awaits Museum of the Bible guests. Johannes Gutenberg s famed 42-Lined Bible so-called for the manner of 42-line, two-column block printing used, dates back to the mid 1400s. Printed in black ink, red and blue ornamentation was added in by hand after it came off the press. That means each of the Some of the earliest printed texts, including a large portion of the Gutenberg Bible, await Museum of the Bible guests. 180 or so copies of the Gutenberg Bible had its own unique characteristics. Today, only about 20 copies are known to still exist. A Gutenberg leaf is a treasured Bible artifact. 4 The leaf shown here was printed by Gutenberg with his partners Johann Fust and Peter Schöffer in 1455. The text is from the Third Book of Kings, or the book 1 Kings in modern Bibles, and it tells the story of the Queen of Sheba s visit to King Solomon (10:5-11:27). This book and its printing marked the beginning of the mass production of books. You re looking at history and yet another exciting point in the Bible s unfolding story to be discovered.

The Bible s Impact The Bible and its impact on film, entertainment, and fashion? You read that correctly. When Museum of the Bible opens in Washington, D.C., in the fall of 2017, guests will have an opportunity to fully explore the Bible s impact on film and entertainment, as well as fashion. In the meantime, through a partnership with 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, Museum of the Bible s traveling exhibit Passages welcomed an A.D. The Bible Continues display that debuted in Santa Clarita, to offer guests a glimpse into that impact today. The A.D. exhibit included costumes worn during the filming of the acclaimed television series from executive producers Roma Downey and Mark Burnett that aired on NBC. Those costumes included those of Jesus, Caiaphas, Pilate, and Herodias. Luciano Capozzi, costume designer for the series, worked diligently to be as historically accurate as possible. Using a number of sources for inspiration The Impact Floor will tell stories of the Bible s impact and invite guests to share their own. including biblical sources, paintings, and earlier films, Capozzi and his team of Italian and Moroccan tailors stitched the costumes by hand, and many were dyed using natural colors to fit the period. Guests at Passages were treated to this bonus exhibit, and many previous guests, as well as season ticket holders, made it a point to return specifically to see this new exhibit. This is just a small part of the great story of the Bible s impact over time on cultures, civilization, and daily life a story Museum of the Bible will share in a way never before experienced. These costumes were worn during the TV series A.D. The Bible Continues. 5

Winter Jam Word travels excitement grows.. The Winter Jam Tour Spectacular has featured many of the top names in Christian music over the years, artists like TobyMac, Third Day, Newsboys, Steven Curtis Chapman, Lecrae, Skillet, and many more. Drawing more than 10,000 people a night, over 57 nights a year, tour attendance is tremendous, and Museum of the Bible is proud to be a part of one of the largest tours in Christian music! During the most recent tour, Museum of the Bible hosted special gatherings for pastors and youth leaders a chance for them to step away from the noise of the concert and the busyness of their work to enjoy time with the tour s artists and keynote speakers. These receptions at Winter Jam are, first and foremost, an opportunity for us to serve these church leaders. They also provide a chance for us to share more about Museum of the Bible with these influencers, and they, in turn, are taking our message back to their churches and congregations. Through spreading awareness of Museum of the Bible s mission and building excitement as the vision takes shape, our team is growing! Getting the word out through Winter Jam! 6
