July 16, 2017 2 Mission Statement: St. Francis of Assisi Parish is a Christ-centered family of believers, celebrating Christ alive in our lives through the inspiration of the Gospel, church teachings and traditions and the Sacraments. We are sensitive to the spiritual and temporal needs of God s people, acknowledging their uniqueness and dignity and are dedicated to reaching out and serving them through prayer, liturgical celebrations and social ministries. Guided by the Holy Spirit and nourished by the Holy Eucharist, we welcome all people with, respect and compassion. We are vigilant in protecting the rights of the most vulnerable. In the tradition of our patron, St. Francis of Assisi, we put the good news of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ into action. They are as Pope Francis has acknowledged THE PEOPLE WHO KEEP THE MEMORY OF GOD ALIVE; THEY KEEP IT ALIVE IN THEMSELVES AND THEY ARE ABLE TO REVIVE IT IN OTHERS. Though Religious Education has ended, please keep in mind throughout the Summer that God is always with us and should be in our thoughts. It is important to help our children understand the importance of our Faith in their lives. Please help to set a good example for your children by praying with them, taking them to Mass every Sunday and teaching them to be loving Catholics. The success of our program depends on parents and parishioners who graciously volunteer to be Catechists/ Teachers. Catechists break open the teachings and share the values of our Faith; while also learning and developing a closer relationship with Jesus and His Church. If you are interested in becoming a Catechist, please contact me. Registration information for the 2017-2018 school year is available on-line: www.stfrancisgreenlawn.org The registration fee is $140 each of your first two children and $45 for your third child enrolled in our program. Thank you for making our program a successful one. With your cooperation, we look forward to another blessed year. Faithfully yours in Christ, Deacon Allan D. This week by putting a gift in the St. Vincent de Paul Poor Box, know that together they will produce fruit a hundred fold. SUNDAY READINGS for next week, July 23rd: Wisdom 12:13, 16 19 You taught your people, by these deeds, that those who are righteous must be kind; and you gave your children reason to hope that you would allow them to repent for their sins. Romans 8:26 27 The Spirit...comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought. Ma hew 13:24 43 or 13:24 30 [Jesus] replied,...if you pull up the weeds you might uproot the wheat along with them. Let them grow together un l harvest; then at harvest me I will say to the harvesters, First collect the weeds and e them in bundles for burning; but gather the wheat into my barn. This is the site of the only Church approved apparition of the Blessed Mother in the United States. If interested, call Mike Lobasso @ 631-486-2155 ASAP! National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help Champion Shrine is one of a dozen religious sites in the world that have been approved by the Catholic Church as a Marian apparition site. This means the Catholic Church has deemed worthy of belief that Jesus Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, appeared here. We hope you will come and be with Mary here, as well. Pray, through the intercessory prayer, to her Son, Jesus, at the actual site of her appearance in th apparition oratory; participate in Mass and special services at the Apparition Chapel; or immerse in quiet prayer and reflection on the grounds. You will find at Champion a reverent, humble and peaceful place of rich Marian devotion. The storied history of the Blessed Mother s appearances to a young Belgium immigrant, Adele Brise, is retold to all pilgrims. We share in the mission the Queen of Heaven entrusted to Adele in 1859. Go gather, teach, pray. In December of 2010, after discernment and upon review of the findings of three renowned Mariologists, The Most Rev. David L. Ricken, Bishop of Green Bay, publicly declared the events, apparitions and locutions given to Adele Brise in October 1859 exhibited the substance of supernatural character. The church confirmed these findings; as such, the apparitions have been deemed worthy of belief. Presently, this is the only church-approved Marian apparition site in the United States of America. In August 2016, Champion Shrine received another important affirmation by the Church when the United States of Catholic Bishops granted the designation of National Shrine to the Shrine of Our Good Help. Newly Baptized: Logan Joel Catalan Joseph Anthony Cavezza Road Angels are needed to drive parishioners to and from doctor appointments. Please call the Pastoral Care Office if you can help at 261-4837

( From preemies to end of life issues, one man has made a difference, by Rob Sample) This neonatologist was a pioneer in working to save the lives of at- risk infants- those born premature or with low birth weight- babies we now lovingly call preemies. In the 1960 s there was little to be done for our smallest brothers and sisters, but Dr. Byrne and his team of doctors and engineers developed the tiny blood pressure monitor, as well as created new techniques to feed preemies intravenously, and designed special ventilators to improve the respiratory function of these small, precious gifts from God. It is amazing and inspiring to see what one good pro-life doctor can do! In his first year of this program, Dr. Byrne saved the lives of 30 babies! Think of the thousands upon thousands of preemies that have been saved since, all due to the work started by this caring doctor who understood the value of life. Dr. Byrne still works as a pro-life activist, as founder of the Life Guardian Foundation. (LifeGuardianFoundation.org) In addition to working on behalf of the unborn and newborns, he has increased his focus to the disabled, the elderly and people with terminal illnesses. Dr. Byrne realizes the continuum on which all issues of life exist. Not only do we have a culture of death in our society- it is a System of death, Dr. Byrne states with fearless understanding and clarity. We have to work hard to protect life from its beginning until true death. The issues surrounding the end of life are murky and complex. We are blessed to have Father Scaria with us to teach and discuss the moral implications of these critical issues. Please check the schedule and plan to attend these important and enlightening talks. Together we can build the culture of LIFE!
