Your Sin will catch up with you by Rev Samuel Mametsa, Sunday, 22 nd January 2012 Scripture reading: We read John 1:14 as read last week and now today we will read from the following scriptures. 2 Samuel 24: 1 1 AGAIN THE anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and He moved David against them, saying, Go, number Israel and Judah. AMP. 1 Chronicles 21: 1-13 1 SATAN [an adversary] stood up against Israel and stirred up David to number Israel. 2 David said to Joab and the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beersheba to Dan, and bring me the total, that I may know it. 3 And Joab answered, May the Lord multiply His people a hundred times! But, my lord the king, are they not all my lord's servants? Why then does my lord require this? Why will he bring guilt upon Israel? 4 But the king's word prevailed against Joab. So Joab departed and went throughout all Israel and came to Jerusalem. 5 Joab gave the total number of the people to David. And all of Israel were 1,100,000 who drew the sword, and of Judah 470,000 who drew the sword. 6 But Levi and Benjamin he did not include among them, for the king's order was detestable to Joab. 7 And God was displeased with this [reliance on human resources], and He smote Israel. 8 And David said to God, I have sinned greatly because I have done this thing. But now, I beseech You, take away the hateful wickedness of Your servant; for I have done very foolishly. 9 And the Lord said to Gad, David's seer, 10 Go and tell David, Thus says the Lord: I offer you three things; choose one of them, that I may do it to you. 11 So Gad came to David and said to him, Thus says the Lord: Take which one you will: 12 Either three years of famine, or three months of devastation before your foes, while the sword of your enemies overtakes you, or else three days of the sword of the Lord and pestilence in the land, and the angel of the Lord destroying throughout all the borders of Israel. Now therefore, consider what answer I shall return to Him Who sent me. 13 And David said to Gad, I am in great and distressing perplexity; let me fall, I pray you, into the hands of the Lord, for very great and many are His mercies; but let me not fall into the hands of man. AMP. Num 32:23-24 23 But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the Lord; and be sure your sin will find you out. 24 Build settlements for your little ones, and folds for your sheep, and do that of which you have spoken. AMP. Heb 10:26 26 For if we go on deliberately and willingly sinning after once acquiring the knowledge of the Truth, there is no longer any sacrifice left to atone for [our] sins [no further offering to which to look forward]. AMP. Page 1 of 6

1 John 3:6-10 6 No one who abides in Him [who lives and remains in communion with and in obedience to Him deliberately, knowingly, and habitually] commits (practices) sin. No one who [habitually] sins has either seen or known Him [recognized, perceived, or understood Him, or has had an experiential acquaintance with Him]. 7 Boys (lads), let no one deceive and lead you astray. He who practices righteousness [who is upright, conforming to the divine will in purpose, thought, and action, living a consistently conscientious life] is righteous, even as He is righteous. 8 [But] he who commits sin [who practices evildoing] is of the devil [takes his character from the evil one], for the devil has sinned (violated the divine law) from the beginning. The reason the Son of God was made manifest (visible) was to undo (destroy, loosen, and dissolve) the works the devil [has done]. 9 No one born (begotten) of God [deliberately, knowingly, and habitually] practices sin, for God's nature abides in him [His principle of life, the divine sperm, remains permanently within him]; and he cannot practice sinning because he is born (begotten) of God. 10 By this it is made clear who take their nature from God and are His children and who take their nature from the devil and are his children: no one who does not practice righteousness [who does not conform to God's will in purpose, thought, and action] is of God; neither is anyone who does not love his brother (his fellow believer in Christ). AMP. The bible says that they when the word of God comes out it must do something in us. Today we want to discuss why the bible says that if you continue to commit sin knowing very well that God doesn t like it, He will punish you.. We know that David was elected by God himself. He used to please God, listen to God. One day, the bible says that David listened to the devil. Why did David listen to the devil and not to God? Because the devil goes around seeking whom he may devour. The devil doesn t care who you are and when he wants you he will come to you and tempt you and devour you. David used to recognise God. In our lives when sin comes to us, it is when the devil intercepts the message of God and tells you to do what he wants you to do. The bible tells us that the devil told David to tell his military leader to perform a census. In Israel it was forbidden by God to conduct a census. David knew this well. That is why the leader refused at first to obey this instruction. The military leader was forced to do something wrong but because of the order of the day and because he knew David could hear from God, he just obeyed but he did not obey fully. Afterwards the military leader, he continued praying asking God for forgiveness. God realised it was not his doing. Draw the distinction between yourself and somebody. God is familiar with your leadership. When God says you do something you must do it, but when God speaks the devil can change His voice. Remember when God called Samuel the devil changed the voice and instead of hearing God Samuel heard the voice of Eli and Eli had to finally realise that the boy Samuel was not hearing the voice of God properly. We need to be very much aware of the wrong voices. A lot of people Page 2 of 6

are under serious troubles because they thought that Jesus Christ / God had spoken to them and it was not God. Check Chronicles above as to what happened after David realised he had heard the wrong voice. The bible says the devil stirred up David. Let me tell you, the devil can make you take the wrong decision. Afterwards David knelt down and He prayed to God but the bible says that God listened to His prayer but God continued to punish him. The bible says ask for forgiveness, yes you will be forgiven but punishment will be meted out. The bible says we can continue to sin after we know the truth and after we know Jesus Christ. After you sin, your life is linked / connected to that sin. Sin is something that is against God, sin is something that God hates something that disobeys the nature of God and God hates sin very much as it was started in Garden of Eden. The bible says the wages of sin is death. Sin doesn t force itself on somebody. Sin comes and dances in front of you, parading, and after, you have to decide on your own. When sin realises that it is parading and you can t see it, it will come to you and make sure you can see it. If you still ignore it, it will be patient. Sin doesn t care, when it wakes up after you have destroyed it, it will resuscitate and come back to you. Sin studies us and if sin is not in you don t think that the sin has gone. It is busy studying you to see what you like. Sin will check you. During that analysis the sin doesn t bother u. It is just there observing you, quietly, not talking and checking what your likes are, your mouth, eyes, ears what are they doing, what do you like the most and if it discovered you like something, sin leaves you and comes back with that something and parades in front of you. Once you start to give it attention it will come nearer and say Do you want it? If you want it, take it. When you take it the devil goes and holds a braai and he calls all his demons we have caught a big fish. and they have a big braai and in that braai they invite the trinity of God come and see. we have caught a big fish. A big fish that calls upon the name of Jesus. Jesus comes and sees the trusted one, the one who knows him well, the one who was worshipping him and remembers that in your worship you used to move him and when he sees this he weeps. Why does he weep, because He had full trust in you. Sin is something you do knowing very well that it is wrong. The problem of sin is that people do it coz the saw somebody doing it and they do it knowing that it is wrong and they even ask God If David committed this sin, who am I that I can t do this. Sin is not hidden, you recognise it. The bible says we need to recognise the sin that we are doing. In 1 john 3: 6-10 the bible says we are coming from Christ and we claim to be his children and if we confess this, sin must run from us. Instead, when sin runs away from us we run after the sin and the bible says your sin will catch up with you, why? If sin can grow within you, it will take root and it cannot leave. Even if you try to leave it, sin will keep silent but after 2 weeks it will come back. If you allow it to control you for long, it will also take years to come out as it is now rooted. Sin is a weapon of satan. Page 3 of 6

If you continue to sin you are saying the devil is right, as the bible says if you continue to sin knowing Jesus then your father is the devil. In many churches we find the devil with his children there worshipping and dancing for the Lord. Sin is their food. This means that the vision bearer of that church listens to the devil as if he is listening to God. That is why the bible says study the word of God ad when you study the word of God you will not be misled by me, including any other pastor. The word of God is the one that will judge us in heaven ad no one else. You must study the word of God, yes, you may sin but whilst studying the word of God. This is so that when you go to heaven and when you will be asked and say Yes, I sinned but did not know that it is in the bible. Some will lie and say I never heard this word before. The bible says study the word of God at your home, once you study the word of God it will take root and sin will run away from you and that way you will be saved. Your Sin will catch up with you. The bible says in the book of Numbers take an order and do what that order says and it you don t then it is a sin and you will be answerable to God. If the bible says don t do this, let s not do it as we will be punished. David was punished. He was given 3 choices. What I like about David, he never said but I prayed and repented and was forgiven. Choose one, or choose the better one for you. If God said today choose one sickness amongst all the sicknesses and diseases because of your sin, which one would you choose? David asked for forgiveness, this means that he was forgiven, remember that the bible says that the wages of sin is death, so what David asked for forgiveness is that he should not die. Many sin and continue to sin and go to God and say please forgive me. God just keeps quiet and leaves you, to check if you will do it again. When it comes again tomorrow He checks and sees what you will do. He will keep quiet and not say anything. After some time, He will know for sure if you have really repented or not. If you have forsaken the sin then He knows that you mean what you say. If God can just one time, say I have forgiven you, you will keep eating sin thinking that He has forgiven you. He takes his law of forgiving 70 times 7 seriously. If you keep sinning then you heap your sins on each other and when the day comes you will be shown your life and the sins that you have been committing. God wants us to surrender our sins and leave them. Even our courts do this; part of your sentence can be suspended pending the outcome of your conduct. If God has forgiven you, don t go and commit the same sin that he has forgiven you, as it will have to come into operation just like in our courts. If you commit that crime again, that sentence comes back to operation. We are talking about sin that is hidden. Page 4 of 6

Sin doesn t want to be exposed. Sin is a special thing 2 those who commit it, that is why they hide it. That is why the bible says your sin will catch up with u. So if you want to overcome sin you need 2 expose it and it will run away from you and it won t torment you again. Sin and exposure are not friend and if you start to hide sin you will be in much trouble but once you start confessing with your mouth that you don t want it, it will run away. People are falling into this trap of sin and especially the elect of God in churches because the devil studies them and torments them with what they like most, especially the sin of fornication and adultery because this is the one that is destroying many churches. When the elected falls into this trap your understanding of the word is erased, you will even look at a scripture that supports your sin. Many say Even David took somebody s wife and this scripture is killing many today. David was punished for his sin. The reason why it is written in the bible is that you must correct your sins. It is not written so you can commit the same sin. The sin of money, many fall into the sin of money. Money is very dangerous. Check how much you have in your pocket and tell me how much did you offer to God today? If what you have is more than what you have given to God, money is becoming an idol to many Christians. God knows our hearts and knows how much we love Him, whether we love our money more than we love Him. Sin of loving money too much is extra-ordinary because once you love money too much you can even kill your own brother. If you want to see this, check in the family where a family member, who is well off, very rich, dies, you will see the brothers and sisters will start visiting the best of the best sangomas so that they can finish the others and get all the inheritance. Don t allow sin to take control of your life; don t let it take charge or your life. When you do good to others, don t advertise it. It is good and you don t have to let somebody else know, if it is good it is good. Unless you go to the pastor to find out who has a need so that you can meet that need. If God speaks to you to do something for somebody you don t need to go to somebody else and say help me, God told you because he knows you can do it on your own or you can make a plan. There is no little sin, a little sin can grow and become very big, e.g. Some people hide pregnancy, they forget that the time will come when you can t hide that pregnancy as it will grow and after that we will see a child. If you allow little sin in your life, it will grow and come out in public and it will not ask for your permission. The bible says you are a child of God and as such refrain from sinning. The bible says we have been given power to overcome sin. In other words, sin must run when it sees you, if you don t do this, your father will become the devil (even when you are inside the church). The bible says your Sin will catch up with you, how does this happen? We will see wrong things happening in your life, Page 5 of 6

you will try to patch this side and it will come out this side. You will run to all deliverance pastors, this shows that your sin is catching up with u. The sin of lying: When people lie their conscience tell them that you are lying but they continue to lie despite the conscience saying This is a lie. and that person continues to lie and then the sin of lying starts to take root and grow and bring results and some even pass it to their children. How does it happen that very young children lie? Where do they learn this if not from home? What about children who throw around abuse like a soccer ball, they get it from the parents. The bible says train your child in the way of the Lord and when he grows up he will never leave the way of the Lord. Prov 22:6 6 Train up a child in the way he should go [and in keeping with his individual gift or bent], and when he is old he will not depart from it. [Eph 6:4; 2 Tim 3:15.] AMP. Children take up what they learn from home to the streets, so if you train them up in the wrong, they will never leave it. If you don t refrain from sin the bible says the devil is your father and if you don t leave sin it will entangle you, and if it entangles you it will finish with u. Some never have the chance or opportunity to come back to God when this happens. If there is one thing in your life that you are afraid of: let sin be that thing that you are scared of the most. Don t argue with sin, remember the devil is the great debater for ages and if you argue with Satan you will lose as he has more experience. The best way is to run. Prayer: God, every sin in me, let it be exposed. God, if there is any sin in me that is hiding bring it to light. There is sin in you that you are not aware of, some are being used at night by witches as transport without them knowing it. It is a sin. Allow God to expose hidden sin, so that it can come out. If you hide it, it means you love it. In your heart, allow that sin to vanish. Page 6 of 6
