Holy Week Reflection As we near Holy Week, we experience a full range of human emotions and experience - from the hosannas, joy and excitement of the people welcoming Jesus to Jerusalem, to the holy act of service of Jesus washing feet, to the pain and sorrow of death, to the miracle of new life and rebirth. In this time, let s practice opening our hearts to that emotional breadth, reminding us of our deep connection with all our neighbors in joy and sorrow, and of the universality of the love of Christ, which we celebrate in the Resurrection. Let us pray: Giver of New Life, you meet us in the garden. We see you rising all around us with signs of life; we know that joy springs forth from grief. We have hope that the resurrection will enter each of our lives and transform them - will enter our collective life as a human people, and transform it. And we pray that we might really live as people of Resurrection. Amen. The Poor Peoples Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival is uniting tens of thousands of people across the country to challenge the evils of systemic racism, poverty, the war economy, ecological devastation and the nation s distorted morality. This Campaign has been endorsed by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The founder of the nation-wide campaign is Rev. William Barber, pastor of Greenleaf Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in North Carolina. The campaign is built on 12 Fundamental Principles. The first two of these principles are: 1. We are rooted in a moral analysis based on our deepest religions and constitutional values that demand justice for all. Moral revival is necessary to save the heart and soul of our democracy. 2. We are committed to lifting up and deepening the leadership of those most affected by systemic racism, poverty, the war economy, and ecological devastation and to building unity across lines of division. The Forty Days of Moral Fusion Direct Action begins on Mother s Day and continues until the summer solstice on June 21st. To join the campaign or read all of the founding principles, visit the website: https://poorpeoplescampaign.org.
