August 26, 2012 3 And so the summer winds down! We are all trying to get in one last trip to whatever beach or mountain top! The noble pagan Roman poet Horace wrote Carpe diem - seize the day. Use the time you have been given (the here and now) to the maximum. The Christian has a different sense of time from the pagan - we are using our time in light of eternity. We don t waste time, but use it differently from the pagan. God s time is different and flows differently from merely human time. Let us enjoy a little vacation and come home in one piece! For the pagan this life was all he could really count on - why not squeeze out of each day the most pleasure! God knows our humanity and does not begrudge us a holiday, but He rightly instructs us to keep our eyes on Him! Discerning His Presence and doing His Will as best we can know it!
