August 26, 2012 2 Mission Statement: St. Francis of Assisi Parish is a Christ-centered family of believers, celebrating Christ alive in our lives through the inspiration of the Gospel, church teachings and traditions and the Sacraments. We are sensitive to the spiritual and temporal needs of God s people, acknowledging their uniqueness and dignity and are dedicated to reaching out and serving them through prayer, liturgical celebrations and social ministries. Guided by the Holy Spirit and nourished by the Holy Eucharist, we welcome all people with, respect and compassion. We are vigilant in protecting the rights of the most vulnerable. In the tradition of our patron, St. Francis of Assisi, we put the good news of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ into action. August 26, 2012 3 And so the summer winds down! We are all trying to get in one last trip to whatever beach or mountain top! The noble pagan Roman poet Horace wrote Carpe diem - seize the day. Use the time you have been given (the here and now) to the maximum. The Christian has a different sense of time from the pagan - we are using our time in light of eternity. We don t waste time, but use it differently from the pagan. God s time is different and flows differently from merely human time. Let us enjoy a little vacation and come home in one piece! For the pagan this life was all he could really count on - why not squeeze out of each day the most pleasure! God knows our humanity and does not begrudge us a holiday, but He rightly instructs us to keep our eyes on Him! Discerning His Presence and doing His Will as best we can know it! Take a little time off but remember God has some work in mind for you to do! St. Francis Of Assisi 3rd Annual Parish Booster Club Weekly and Monthly Winners! August 26, 2012 4 Time, Talent & Treasure Fostering Stewardship as a way of life (Regular Sunday Offertory) Last Sunday s weekly offering: $10,792.00 Last Year s Sunday offering: $9, 213.00 Thanks for Giving First Fruits & Taking a Step!!! Bulletin Reflection In today s first reading, Joshua challenges the people to decide whom they will serve. Recalling God s faithfulness to them and to their ancestors, the people declare, We also will serve the Lord, for he is our God. May we, too, be mindful of God s gifts to us and renew our commitment to serve Him with grateful hearts. Living Stewardship We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who seek to choose God and service to our neighbor over every other responsibility, want or ambition as an act of good stewardship. August 26, 2012 Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time: In today s Gospel, Jesus asks Do you also want to leave? We must ask ourselves if we really want to hear the good news of his love for us and for others. Is God s word able to say new things to us? Is the word of God able to break into our consciousness, change us and call us to hear the cries of the poor? This month, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to assist families, providing food and money for utility and rent bills, etc. Thank You! Next Sunday is Food Collection Sunday Baskets will be available at the doors of the church for your contributions. Please help to feed the hungry of the parish.

He is about 12 inches in length and weighs about one pound. The baby s eyelashes have become apparent. He has developed a sucking reflex and can suck his thumb. His mother can feel him moving now. Before, he was too small for her to feel. Although he swam with ease in his watery world, he needed to be big and strong enough to kick hard against the outside uterine wall and dent it the inside wall of the uterus has no feeling. We are mid-way through the pregnancy now. Your prayers have helped your baby s mother continue with her pregnancy and seek the help she needs. (Our Baby Corner has been assisting a mom due to give birth soon.) Be sure to check the picture of your five-month-old unborn baby on our Spiritual Adoption Scroll. You can find it above the white crib in our St. Francis of Assisi Baby Corner located in the rear of our Church. Our babies can especially use Huggies, Luv s, and Pampers diapers sizes 4, 5, and 6, unscented baby wipes, unscented baby wash, unscented baby shampoo, and baby coupons. Please think of our babies as you shop as all baby items are so greatly appreciated by our moms. We always thank Our Lord through the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Francis for your caring and generosity. Wish to join our ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI BABY CORNER? Need assistance with baby items? Please call our rectory at 631-757-7435. Very Special News: Nellie Gray, founder of the annual March for Life in Washington, D. C., passed away August 11 th at the age of 86. Nellie Gray is one of the pioneers and heroes of the pro-life movement in the United States, said Dr. Jack Willke, founder of the National Right to Life Committee She was a tireless warrior for the unborn and her motto was no exceptions As we approach the 40 th anniversary of Roe v. Wade and the sad reality that 54 million babies have been lost to abortion in America, let us pay appropriate homage to Nellie by recommitting ourselves to do everything possible to protect and defend the unborn. (CNSNews.com) Intercessions for Life: August 26 th Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time For the sick and suffering: may the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ give them strength and consolation through all their trials: We pray to the Lord: Word of Life: It should be noted that in a society that respects natural law s right of religion liberty, a conscience clause should be redundant. That is: with or without a stated conscience clause, the government cannot force religious institutions and churches to act against their beliefs. It should be understood, and has been understood that it is the natural right of man to follow his faith until now. ~Most Rev. W. Francis Malooly, Bishop of Wilmington, Homily, Fortnight for Freedom Mass, June 21, 2012 The Life Center of Long Island at 631-243-2373. Call for help with a crisis pregnancy, healing after an abortion, or to donate baby equipment.
