If you have been beating yourself up for not making the time for prayer and reflection that you ve wanted to this Lenten season, I highly recommend joining us this Friday at 7:00 pm. Prayer and silence are at the heart of the Taizé experience. Our prayers are all sung using a unique style of music that is chant-like and repetitive. This is designed to allow a deeper part of ourselves to resonate. The worship space itself is also soft and intimate. We primarily use candlelight around the cross to set a warm, contemplative environment. The songs we sing highlight simple phrases and lines from Scripture, the Psalms, in particular. If you re curious this style of worship was created by the Taizé community, an ecumenical monastic order founded in 1940 in France. Taizé is one of the world s most important sites for Christian pilgrims. Each year tens of thousands of young pilgrims visit this small village to share in the community s way of life. We hope to see you, to pray with you, and to find God with you. FAMILY CATECHESIS & SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION First Eucharist and Confirmation News Next Sunday April 2nd is our last class before the Family Retreat. Watch your email for details. Here is a clue: W U R K C R W Wisdom, Understanding, Right Judgment, Knowledge, Courage, Reverence, Wonder & Awe Good Night Sleep Tight Bedtime Prayer Ideas! They ve bathed, brushed their teeth, had a drink of water, and been read a story or two (or three). But wait! Don t forget bedtime prayers! Here are fourteen bedtime prayer ideas for kids of all ages. (This article is adapted from the book "77 Ways to Pray with Your Kids.") Bless your child and let him bless you Do a kid-friendly daily examen Talk about the days highs and lows, then launch into spontaneous prayer Sing your prayer Read a Bible story Make a prayer pillowcase Use a prayer grab bag and have your child pick out a prayer Pray the 5 Finger Prayer Write or draw your prayers Use traditional prayers Pray with the help of a saint Light a candle Most importantly, just pray! Family Faith Activities March 26th 4th Sunday of Lent I once was lost but now I'm found; Was blind, but now I see. Amazing Grace. How often have we sang or listened to these words without really listening to what is being said? Close your eyes for a moment. What if you couldn t see the sky, read a book, look at your children s faces! What a loss that would be. In order for our children to follow the light of Christ, they too must open their eyes. Just as Jesus cured the blind man, we are called to help our children open their eyes to Jesus. The blind man helped by Jesus finally understood that it is not enough to see only with our eyes, but also with our hearts. Jesus healed the man of his physical blindness, but in the end, the man recognized Jesus as the Messiah and worshiped him. Gather your family and talk about beautiful things you have seen this week. Read John 9:1-41 and discuss: What happens when Jesus meets the man born blind? How does Jesus heal the man? What happens after the blind man is cured? What does the man come to believe about Jesus? Family Light: Using a good-sized candle, have family members take turns telling the person holding the candle, what good things they see in him or her. Concluding Prayer: Let us pray. Dear Jesus, just as You cured the blind man, may we be given new vision this Lent. Help us to live as children of light. Amen. VISION CORNER Personal Return on Investment Last October at our 5th Renewing Lives Breakfast, many stories were shared via speakers, videos and conversations around tables of new and old friends. The follow up calls to our guests after the event cemented a thread which we often hear - people come to the Franciscan Renewal Center and have a feeling of belonging that they did not have before...and they only want it to grow stronger. That was my story when I first discovered that this place was different than anything that I had ever encountered before - and I wanted the feeling of belonging that I had to grow stronger. I am happy to report that it has and many of you reading this were instrumental in that growth process and I will be forever grateful to you for sharing your hearts with me along the way. The career that I retired from in 2012 was in real estate asset management to be exact. Asset management was all about preserving what had been created so carefully so that it would maintain its value for years to come for both the owners and/ or the shareholders that I ultimately reported to. Return on investment was a very common term in most meetings that I found myself in over the years. Today my role here at the Franciscan Renewal Center is much the same in that I speak to fellow community members about preserving our common asset - the Franciscan Renewal Center - so that generations to follow will be able to come here and experience their own wonderful sense of community and belonging that we all sometimes take for granted. One of the greatest gifts for me has been to be able to take my talents and put them into service to help this place that has been such a major factor in my own need to belong. Little did I know that my personal return on investment would involve stoking the fires of sustainability so that the leadership (aka Father Joe and Charlie) could maintain an ongoing base of operational funds to keep the proverbial lights on so that All are Welcome Always. If you would like to become a member of the TAU Society and help keep the lights on, please call me at 480-355-0367.
