This year it falls on Sunday, August 14 (Saturday at sunset until Sunday at sunset). The Ninth of Av commemorates and mourns the destruction of the First Temple in 586 BCE, and of the Second Temple in 70 CE, along with other tragedies throughout Jewish history. It is an appropriate day to contemplate the meaning of approximately 2,000 years of exile, diaspora, and powerlessness, and the utter wonderment and miracle of our return to Israel in modern times. WORSH" COU'ITEE PLANS DINNER A dinner following the 6 p.m. service on Friday, August 5, is being planned at Linardos Villa Restaurant, 2230 East Main Street, Springfield. TEMPLE LOBBY TZEDAKAH BOX Every year the Temple Board together with the Rabbi decide where to allocate the funds that have been put into the tzedakall box in our lobby. This year it has been decided to send the accumulated tzedakall money ($27.00) to the American Red Magen David for Israel to support emergency medical services in the state of Israel. We thank all contributors for their donations and hope you will continue to add to our tzedakall box whenever you are at Temple.
