Genesis 12:1-4 1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father s house, unto a land that I will show thee: 2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shall be a blessing: 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curses thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. 4 So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran. 3. This is the heart of God concerning living a separated life: 1. GOD WANTS US TO BE HOLY PEOPLE. Leviticus 20:26 And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the LORD am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine. We must see ourselves privileged to be His redeemed possession. We are not children of God because we are good but because of His love towards us. Therefore, we should make every effort to live separated life unto Him. 6 2. WE ARE TO SEPARATE OURSELVES FOR GOD TO RECEIVE US. 2 Corinthians 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, says the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. Here Paul was talking specifically about yoking with unbelievers. Yes, we are to preach the good news to them. But we are not to be partakers of their evil deeds. Remember we are God s holy vessels called to be His only. Therefore, as long as we still meddle with unclean things, he will not receive us. I used to know a couple years ago who constantly had marital problem because the husband wanted to associate with the old relationships he had before they were married. Finally the wife put him out and told him she was not going to receive him until he totally separated himself from those relationships. God is saying the same thing in this passage. In order to receive you back in fellowship, you must separate yourself from unclean things. We must get rid of worldly things for the sake of knowing Christ intimately. 7 2.
