CHRIST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH May 9, 2010 A place where visitors become friends. Welcome to Christ United Methodist Church! We especially greet those who are worshiping with us for the first time and rejoice that you have chosen to spend this special time with God and us. Feel free to secure a maroon colored information packet about Christ Church found near each door. As God leads, we welcome you to become an active participant with us!! If you desire to speak with our pastor, please feel free to contact Pastor Mike at your convenience. His contact information is: Email: christpastormike@comcast.net Telephone: Cell: 360-4802 or O: 532-6850. Who s in the pew? Pads are located on the end of each pew to note your presence with us. If we do not have your contact information, we would be most pleased to receive it. As you pass the pad to others, please introduce yourself and greet others in the pew. Special sound enhancement devices for those with an auditory deficiency are available at the sound table in the rear of the sanctuary. At the Benevolent Homes in Central Pa., every day is spent serving the needs of those entrusted to our care helping individuals to have joyful and meaningful lives and making the most of every day. Your gift to the Golden Cross Offering, taken today, will touch the lives of so many, so why not visit or volunteer at one of the homes to see your gift in action. The Book discussion Group will meet at Jane Zullinger s home for the month of June. The book title is Back When We Were Grownups by Anne Tyler. The Shippensburg Meals on Wheels is in need of volunteers once more. Meals are served Monday Friday at lunch time. If interested please call Doris Seibert at 532-8529. The Garden Tour is fast approaching, June 13 from 1-6 p.m. If you know of a garden that should be included in this year s tour please let Rose Dillner know. Volunteers are needed for the following chairpositions: Refreshments, Host and Hostess Committee, Plant Sale helpers, Ticket Sale. Please call Rose Dillner at 532-8155, if you are willing to help with a committee or if you know of a garden. NOTE: Now is the time to be dividing your perennial and repot them into containers that can be sold at the plant sale. Vacation Bible School will be held June 20-24 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Grace United Church of Christ on 121 East Orange Street in Shippensburg. The theme this year is the Rainforest. If you wish to help with VBS please notify Beth Minnich. The Youth Fellowship would like to thank everyone for all your support during the 30 Hour Famine. We raised $1320. for World Visions. We could not have done this without the help of all of you. THANKS!!! Ladies are you looking for a way to strengthen your devotional/prayer life? If so, please consider attending "Ladies Blanket Prayer Group. This group meets on Wednesday nights at 7:00 p.m. and generally lasts one hour. This time is well spent with devotions and group prayer. If you would like to give it a try just come to 8220 Scenic Drive (Cathy Campbell's house) next Wednesday or you can call Cathy at 530-5746 with questions or if you need directions. Come join us in praying about anything and everything that is on your heart. YOUTH FELLOWSHIP May 9- No YF, treat your mom to some extra hugs today-mother s day May 16-6:30 p.m. Youth Fellowship May 23-6:30 p.m. Youth Fellowship May 30 - No Youth Fellowship Another fun way to support Christ UMC is by volunteering at Hershey Park. Each worker makes $5.85 per hour, receives a ticket to the park- valid for one year, and eats a meal. All the money made is sent to the church and will be used by the church as specified by the individual working. It is an easy and fun way to raise money. Please for more specifics speak with Annette (532-4545). This year s Colonial Christmas Dinner will be November 13, 2010. It may seem like a long way off but preparations will begin soon. As in the past crafters and antique dealers my rent a space for $20. If you desire a space or would like to help in anyway, please contact Rose Dillner, 532-8155 as soon as possible. Collection bins are placed in Hospitality Room off of Hollar Hall - Please consider collecting items. These

items are used by local businesses, schools and conference supported ministries to purchase such things such as transportation vans and fund cancer treatments for children. Ever since attending camp at the Peace Center of United University Church in Los Angeles, Jessica has been better at handling tough situations, instead of breaking down when someone hurts her feelings. The shy 12 year old now knows how to stand up for herself and others. Jessica is a graduate of the Peace Kids, a unique program funded in part by the Peace with Justice Sunday offering (that will be taken May 30). In today s economy, your contributions are needed more than ever so the UM Church can help Jessica and others like her to learn conflict resolution, communication skills and mediation. They are the next generation to advocate for peace with justice, not only in their personal lives, but also in the world we live. Our church greatly appreciates the generosity of M & T Bank and Orrstown Bank for allowing us the use of their parking lots during our worship services. There will be four designated parking spots in the M&T parking lot on Sunday mornings; two are for handicap parking and two for visitor parking. Overflow parking is available in the Orrstown Bank parking lot. The deadline for the June Good News newsletter is Sunday, May 16. Please submit your articles to the office by this date. CALL TO CONFESSION WE CONFESS OUR SINS AND ACCEPT GOD S PARDON PRAYER OF CONFESSION (in unison) Lord, You know how easy it is for us to sit here, tethered to our darkness and fear. We are not unlike the disciples who also wondered and feared. Lord, come to us in our darkness. Flood us with your powerful light peace and hope. Help open our eyes to the good news of your eternal glory. Give to us visions of the place in which peace and hope will reign. Forgive our stubborn resistance to your mercy and your love.
