MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR Dear Friends- Often, these days, it can be challenging to keep teenagers and young adults involved in the life of the Church. One way that often works is to involve our young people in hands on service projects. When our young people go on Mission trips or visit a homeless shelter or prepare meals for people in need; when they hear the stories of these individuals they are helping and are reminded that this is exactly what Jesus would be doing if He were walking the earth today it often can make a positive difference it makes the Gospel alive and meaningful. Next week we launch the annual Catholic Appeal a fund raiser for the charitable works of the Archdiocese of Boston. I realize that sometimes it seems that one appeal for funds is quickly followed by another. However, I believe, that if we met the people and heard the stories of the people helped by this appeal it would help us to see that by our participation we are continuing the work that Jesus would be doing in our world today. If we met the family in a homeless shelter who never thought that they would end up there but did because a job was lost and the bills piled up; if we met the young person who has a chance to be a success story because of being given a chance for a good education in a parochial school; if we met a person newly arrived in our country who became a great American citizen because an outreach program sponsored by the church helped him or her to learn English; if our donation could help subsidize the education of a future priest then this appeal would become not just another fundraiser but an opportunity to be Christ for another. The list of these works of charity could go on but hopefully we can try to see the real people and the real needs that are helped by our donations. The Gospels tell us that there are three dimensions to Lent prayer, fasting, and alms giving. Many of us have been blessed by God in many ways and one way to express our gratitude is by alms giving sharing with those less fortunate than ourselves. Next week at all our Masses we will hear a bit more about the appeal and how each of us can make a positive difference in the life of another member of the Body of Christ. Perhaps this week we can pray a bit about how Christ is calling us to see Him in those a bit less fortunate than ourselves. Thank you in advance for considering this important need. Fr. The Sacrament of the Sick will be celebrated immediately following the Mass on Saturday, March 17 th at 4pm. The primary aim of the Sacrament of the Sick is the healing of those who are sick. It may involve physical healing. It may involve spiritual healing. It may promise restoration. Or, it may guide one to resurrection into God s kingdom. That belongs to God to decide. The Sacrament of Anointing is open to all who have health problems due to illness or age, or have impending surgery. Through the Sacrament of Anointing, the Church supports the sick and elderly in their struggle against illness and continues Christ s work of healing. The sacrament expresses the sharing that each one of us has in the suffering of others. Even if you have participated in the past, we urge you to join us for this moving liturgical event. Friends and relatives are encouraged to attend this communal celebration.

LIFELONG FAITH FORMATION-YOUTH & ADULTS Page 5 St. Edward Faith Formation Grade 2 Save the Date! The 2 nd Grade Mass and linger longer is planned for Sunday March 18 th at 9:15 a.m. Annual Faith Formation Lenten Project It has been a faith formation tradition to encourage our students to serve those in need. Students are asked to "earn money during Lent" and then donate to our Giving Jar which will help support the following: "Dollars for Dolly" through the Saint Rock Foundation: a young woman in Haiti has been working as a translator for the Foundation and is going to nursing school. Last year we sponsored a large portion of her 2nd year of nursing school, and we hope to sponsor a large portion of her 3rd year. A video of Dolly has been sent to all our Faith Formation families. Dolly's story is heart warming. Helping Hands Food Packing Event: this will be the 3rd year that we have sponsored this event and still need to raise roughly $1,500 of the $5,000 needed to pack 10,000 meals to send to Burkina Faso. Food Packing Event will be held on Saturday, March 24 here at St. Edward. St. Jude Faith Formation St. Jude Safety and Empowerment Information Night for Faith Formation Parent/Guardians Just a reminder that Safety Information Night will be on March 8th from 7PM to 8PM for all Parents that have children in grades 1-5. Barbara Brunelli will be presenting a wonderful presentation that we highly recommend all Parents attend. Please contact the Faith Formation office if you have any questions or concerns. St. Jude Grade Level Mass for all 5th and 6th graders will be on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at the 10:30 Mass. We look forward to seeing you! Children's Liturgy & Coffee/Cafe Linger Longer Directly following the Children's Liturgy on Sunday, March, 11, 2018 there will be a coffee/cafe linger longer in the lower church. It's hard to believe but this will be the last one for this year so please join us at the 10:30 Mass. Easter Baskets will be made and delivered to those served by the Medfield Food Cupboard. Students are asked to think creatively: some have done extra chores around the house, donated babysitting or after school job money, some have even sacrificed candy/ Starbucks money! We have nearly 1,000 students in our program, imagine what we can do if we all made a collective effort to help those in need. ST JUDE/ST EDWARD EASTER EGG HUNT With the Easter Bunny Our 3rd Annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held at St. Jude s following the 9:30 Mass on Easter Sunday. All families are invited to join in on the fun! The Easter Bunny wants to meet everyone and you can take your picture with him. Please remember your baskets to collect lots of eggs! Pictured above is our Catechumen, Kerry Haberlin and her fiancé, Keith Ferguson with Cardinal O Malley at the Rite of Election recently. Kerry will be received into the church at the St. Edward Easter Vigil.
