For more information, please call Laura Powers at 781-396-0423 Ext 113. Thank you. Today, the Fourth Sunday of Easter, is informally known as "Good Shepherd Sunday" because Jesus in today's Gospel calls Himself the Good Shepherd. It is a day to give thanks for the Lord's care for His flock. We also give thanks for those who shepherd us in His name, especially our bishops, priests, and religious. It was announced at all the Masses last weekend that Father John Swencki has been appointed by Cardinal Sean O'Malley to be the rector of Saint Anselm Church in Sudbury, beginning on June 1. He will be replacing Father Tom Kopp, who is retiring. Father John will be departing Medford in late May, and another priest will be appointed to take his place here. We are grateful to Father John for his pastoral care in St. Francis and St. Joseph Parishes during the last four years! Change is not easy, so let's pray for Father John in his new mission, and pray for our parishes too during this transition. Good Shepherd Sunday is the annual World Day of Prayer for Vocations in the Church throughout the world. We pray especially for vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and religious life. The Lord continues to call men and women to serve Him in special ways; may they hear and answer His call. We hope to provide additional information shortly about how you can continue to support the recipient through prayers as well as organize an opportunity for him to meet the members of our collaborative. Mission Statement Saint Joseph School is a nurturing Christ-centered community where the mission of Jesus, as understood and experienced in the Catholic Church, is our primary focus. We encourage our students to develop a deep love of God, neighbor, and self. The faculty and staff believe that a supportive academic environment will help to develop self-confidence, pride, fulfillment, and a desire to strive toward excellence. St. Joseph School Bridge to Kindergarten Program Saint Joseph School understands and appreciates the importance of the whole child. If your child would benefit from the gift of time, before entering Kindergarten, this is the program for you! This program is designed to promote a level of readiness skills necessary for a Kindergarten classroom. The Bridge program introduces children at a slower pace to the structure and routine of a Kindergarten classroom. Teachers encourage emerging learners through a variety of ways focusing on the development of each individual child. The Bridge is a five (5) full day program which includes Music, Art, Spanish, and Physical Education all taught by a specialist outside of their classroom. Collaborative of St. Francis of Assisi Parish & St. Joseph Parish, Medford, MA Page 5 Disciples in Mission I am the good shepherd, I know mine and mine know me. These words from today s Gospel hold both comfort and challenge! Are we willing to respond to what Christ asks of us? We are not asked to go it alone. We have the promise of Christ s presence as we go out to others and share the Good News. Take time this week in prayer to listen to the voice of our Good Shepherd and ask for the grace to be responsive to His call. We the Many, Serving as One THANK YOU to all who have participated in the 2018 Catholic Appeal campaign.
