FIRST SUNDAY AFTER CHRISTMAS JANUARY 1, 2016 ~ WELCOME! It is a pleasure to worship together. If you are a newcomer, if you have a prayer request, or both, please fill out the yellow pew card located on the back of a pew. PRELUDE ~ JAEYONG LEE WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS OPENING HYMN ~ WE THREE KINGS OF ORIENT ARE ~ WOV #646 VERSES 1 & 2 WORDS OF CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS P: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. P: Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. P: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Silence for reflection and self-examination. P: Most merciful God, C: we confess that we are in bondage to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

P: Almighty God, in his mercy, has given his Son to die for us and, for his sake, forgives us all our sins. In the name of Jesus Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. GREETING P: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. C: And also with you. KYRIE ~ P. 78 (LBW) (Responses will be sung by the congregation.) A: In peace, let us pray to the Lord. C: Lord, have mercy. A: For the peace from above, and for our salvation, let us pray to the Lord. C: Lord, have mercy. A: For the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the Church of God, and for the unity of all, let us pray to the Lord. C: Lord, have mercy. A: For this holy house, and for all who offer here their worship and praise, let us pray to the Lord. C: Lord, have mercy. A: Help, save, comfort, and defend us, gracious Lord. HYMN OF PRAISE ~ ANGELS FROM THE REALMS OF GLORY ~ LBW #50 VERSES 1, 2, & 4 P: The Lord be with you. (Sung) C: And also with you. (Sung) PRAYER OF THE DAY

P: Let us pray. Almighty God, you have given us your only-begotten Son to take our nature and be born of the Virgin Mary. Grant that we, having been redeemed and made your children by grace, may daily be renewed by your Holy Spirit; through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. FIRST READING: ISAIAH 63:7-14 7 I will recount the steadfast love of the Lord, the praises of the Lord, according to all that the Lord has granted us, and the great goodness to the house of Israel that he has granted them according to his compassion, according to the abundance of his steadfast love. 8 For he said, Surely they are my people, children who will not deal falsely. And he became their Savior. 9 In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them; in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; he lifted them up and carried them all the days of old. 10 But they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit; therefore he turned to be their enemy, and himself fought against them. 11 Then he remembered the days of old, of Moses and his people. Where is he who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of his flock? Where is he who put in the midst of them his Holy Spirit, 12 who caused his glorious arm to go at the right hand of Moses, who divided the waters before them to make for himself an everlasting name, 13 who led them through the depths? Like a horse in the desert, they did not stumble. 14 Like livestock that go down into the valley, the Spirit of the Lord gave them rest. So you led your people, to make for yourself a glorious name. R: The Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. PSALM 111 1 Hallelujah! I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart,* in the assembly of the upright, in the congregation. 2 Great are the deeds of the Lord!* they are studied by all who de- light in them. 3 His work is full of majes- ty and splendor,* and his righteousness en- dures forever. 4 He makes his marvelous works to be remembered;* the Lord is gracious and full of compassion.

5 He gives food to those who fear him;* he is ever mindful of his covenant. 6 He has shown his people the power of his works* in giving them the lands of the nations. 7 The works of his hands are faithful- ness and justice;* all his command- ments are sure. 8 They stand fast forev- er and ever,* because they are done in truth and equity. 9 He sent redemption to his people; he commanded his cove- nant forever;* holy and awesome is his Name. 10 The fear of the Lord is the begin- ning of wisdom;* those who act accordingly have a good understanding; his praise en- dures forever. SECOND READING: GALATIANS 4:4-7 4 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. 6 And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, Abba! Father! 7 So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God. R: The Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. with a living faith as he comes to us in his holy supper. Come, Lord Jesus. P: In the night in which he was betrayed our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. THE LORD S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Items for Annual Meeting - Submitted 2 Weeks in Advance Jut a reminder; we changed our bylaws last year to say that all items to be discussed at the annual meeting need to be submitted to the congregational president at least 2 weeks before the meeting. That allows adequate time for all items on the agenda to be presented to the congregation before the meeting. If you have any proposals or ideas for the annual meeting, please do submit them to Amy Norris. Thank you for your input! Congregational Meeting Our annual meeting of the congregation will be on Sunday, January 29 at 11:30. Confirmation Resumes Confirmation begins again on Tuesday evening, January 11 at 7:00 p.m.

Adult Forums on Jan. 15 and 22 Our church council is going to host adult forums on Sunday, Jan. 15 and 22 during the Sunday School hour. The council will share with the congregation the proposed budget for 2017 and all the items on the agenda for the annual meeting. We ve learned in past years that it is most important to have the congregation informed of all of this before the annual meeting. That gives people a chance to pray and reflect ahead of the meeting. Please come to these forums and share your input and thoughts. Offering Envelopes The offering envelopes for 2017 are in the church entryway during December. Be sure to pick up your box. If you don t see yours, please call Debbie in the church office 903-561-1865 so that she can be sure that you get your envelopes for 2017.
