OUR SAVIOUR S Lutheran Church June 3, 2018

Time after Pentecost All the baptized have a calling in God s world. God calls not just the clergy and deacons, but also the youngest child, like Samuel. God knows us from the inside out, from the beginning to the end. God s love heals and empowers each one of us for service to neighbor and stranger. Gathering The Holy Spirit calls us together as the people of God. Gathering Music Welcome

*Confession and Forgiveness Blessed be the holy Trinity, + one God, full of compassion and mercy, abounding in steadfast love. Amen. Trusting God s promise of forgiveness, let us confess our sin against God and one another. Silence for reflection. Eternal God our creator, in you we live and move and have our being. Look upon us, your children, the work of your hands. Forgive us all our offenses, and cleanse us from proud thoughts and empty desires. By your grace draw us near to you, our refuge and our strength; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen. Neither this world nor your life is so broken that God cannot restore it to wholeness. Trust and believe that, after separation, reconciliation is possible. Your sin is forgiven and God welcomes us to beloved community. Thanks be to God. *Opening Hymn Gather Us In #532 *Greeting The grace of our Savior Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. 4

*Prayer of the Day Let us pray. Holy God, you call us from our mother s womb and break through all barriers that seek to keep us from you. Help us hear the sound of your voice in our lives and give us the courage to follow where it leads; in the name of the barrier breaking healer, Jesus Christ. Amen. Word God speaks to us in scripture reading, preaching, and song. -- Quiet reflection First Reading 1 Samuel 3:1-20 Spark Story Bible pages 122-125 Listen and see as scripture is enacted and the story told. Word of God, word of life. Thanks be to God. Children s Sermon After the children s sermon, children may go with their teacher to children s church. Or, families may decide to keep children in worship. We love all ages in worship and leave it to the families to decide. 5

Psalm 139:1-6, 13-18 Verse 1 Cantor; Verses 2 & 3 All Sung to: My Shepherd, You Supply My Need 1. My God, you have ex-am-ined me, you know me through and through; you see my deeds, per-ceive my thoughts, my speech, my mot-ives too. You wrap me round on ev-ery side; on me you place your hand: such knowl-edge is too won-der-ful for me to un-der-stand! 2. The pres-ence of your Spir-it will be with me to the last; Wher-ev-er I de-cide to go your love will hold me fast. If I should try to run from you I know with-out a doubt no dark-ness could con-ceal my path your light would shine me out. 3. You made me in my moth-er s womb, so in-tri-cate your ways, and ev-en then, be-fore my birth, you num-bered all my days. Be-fore I sleep and as I wake I know that you are there: how could I ev-er sound the depths of your un-fail-ing care? Second Reading 2 Corinthians 4:5-12 Word of God, word of life. Thanks be to God. *Gospel Acclamation 6

The holy gospel according to Mark, the 2 nd and 3 rd chapters. Glory to you, O God. *Gospel Reading Mark 2:23 3:6 This is the Good News. Praise to you, O Christ. Sermon *Hymn of the Day We Are Called #720 *Prayers of the People (Each petition will conclude with, Hear us, O God and the congregation responds, Your mercy is great. ) Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs. 7

*Peace Meal God feeds us with the presence of Jesus Christ. (The people greet each other: Peace be with you. ) The peace of Christ be with you always. And also with you. Gathering our Gifts All present, even those who contribute through automatic payments, are invited to lay hands upon the collection plate symbolizing their contributions. *Offertory Come to the Table *Offering Prayer Let us pray. Be known to us, O Christ, in the breaking of the bread, as you were made known to the disciples. Receive these gifts, and the offering of our lives, that we may be your risen body in the world. Amen. 8

*The Great Thanksgiving The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. It is our duty and delight we praise your name and join their unending hymn: *Sanctus 9

*Eucharistic Proclamation and Prayer *Lord s Prayer We seek to learn how God is making all things new and so together we pray this ancient prayer of Jesus in a new way. Eternal Spirit Earth-Maker, Pain-bearer, Life-giver, source of all that is and that shall be, Father and Mother of us all, Loving God, in whom is heaven; the hallowing of your name echoes through the universe! The way of your justice be followed by the peoples of the earth. Your heavenly will be done by all created beings. Your commonwealth of peace and freedom sustain our hope and come on earth. With the bread we need for today, feed us. In the hurts we absorb from one another, forgive us. In times of temptation and test, spare us. From the grip of all that is evil, free us. For you reign in the glory of the power that is love, now and forever. Amen. Invitation to Communion 10

Distribution All are welcome at the table. After you have received the bread, you may dip it into one of the cups: the dark liquid is wine, the light liquid is grape juice. Or, you may eat the bread and then drink from the last cup which is a common cup of wine. A gluten free wafer is also available. Those who do not yet commune may come forward for a blessing.
