PILGRIMAGE TO THE HOLY LAND WEDNESDAY, JUNE 4 - We depart from our home cityfor an evening connecting overnight flightto Tel Aviv.Dinner and breakfast served aboard. D (dinner) & B (breakfast) THURSDAY, JUNE 5 - Our arrival at Ben Gurion Airport willbe in the afternoon. We clear customs and transfer by motor coach to the cityof Tiberias to the Scots Hotel, located directlyon the Sea of Galilee. We check-in and have dinner together. D TIBERIAS FRIDAY, JUNE 6 - This morning we head to Nazareth. Before our destination we stop in Cana. Here we recall the scene of Our lord's first miracle, remembering His Blessed Mother's words, "Do whatever he tells you." We celebrate HOLYMASSin the CHURCHINCANA. During this Mass couples in our group have the opportunity to renew their Marriage Vows. Arrivingin Nazareth, where Jesus spent most of His Life,we go to the beautiful Basilica of the Annunciation. There in the Grotto of the Annunciation we venerate the veryspot where the Word Was Made Flesh. We willalso visit the great Upper Basilica and nearby see St. Joseph's workshop. After time for lunch we head to the Mediterranean Coastline, driving north to ascend the Carmel Mountain Range, and arrmng at the site of Muhraqa where Elijah challenged and defeated the 450 prophets of Baal. We continue on to Stella Maris on Mt. Carmel, the largest monastery of the Carmelite Order and its headquaarters. Here we see the Cave of Elijah. Back at our hotel we have dinner together. B & D TIBERIAS SATURDAY, JUNE 7 - This morning we drive to MT.BEATITUDES,which overlooks the Sea of Galilee. In this place, where Jesus delivered His Sermon on the Mount, we celebrate HOLYMASS. Down along the lake shore we are at a site called Tabgha (Seven Springs) where our first stop is at the Church of the Multiplication of Loaves and Fishes. We visit the Church of the Primacy of Peter, the place where Our lord bestowed upon Peter the role of leadership of the Church. Here we willpray for the intentions of the Holy Father. We go on to Capernaum, known as the Second City of Jesus, where we willsee the ruins of the second century Synagogue (John: 6) and the ancient structure of the House of Peter. In this city Our lord called a number of the Apostles, he taught the Good News of our Redemption and he cured many people of their afflictions. After a lunch break we ascend the heights of Mt. Tabor, where Jesus took Peter, James and John and was gloriously Transfigured in their sight. At the end of the afternoon we are at the shore of the Sea of Galilee, where we embark on a boat ride, remembering the scripture passages of Jesus and His apostles on this lake. B & D TIBERI AS
Today we drive south through the fertilejordan Valley, arriving just above the place where the Jordan River empties into the Dead Sea. We go directly to its bank and recall that here, when St. John was baptizing those who responded to his call for repentance, he heard Our lord and obediently Baptized Jesus Himself. We will renew our own Baptismal Promises at the river. Then we reach Jericho, the most ancient cityin the Holy Land. We recall its prominence for events in both the Old and the New Testaments. Next we go to Qumran, site of the Dead Sea Scrolls discovery and ancient ruins of the Essene Community. After time for lunch and a tour here we go to the shore of the Dead Sea, lowest spot on earth. We can even take the opportunity for a dip in these mineral rich waters. Drivingup to Jerusalem, but before arriving to this Holy City, we willstop at Bethany, home of Martha, Mary and Lazarus, to celebrate HOLYMASSin the CHURCHOF ST. LAZARUS.In Jerusalem we check into our hotel, the Notre Dame Center, across the street from a Gate into the Old City and our lodging for the next five nights. We have dinner together. SUNDAY, JUNE 8 - MONDAY, JUNE 9 - Traveling a short distance south of Jerusalem, we arrive in Bethlehem. We begin our visit in the countryside at the Shepherds Fields of Boaz, remembering the angels' glad tiding to the shepherds. We celebrate HOLYMASS IN A GROTIO OF SHEPHERDS FIELDS. Within the Town of Bethlehem we go to venerate the Holy Grotto,.!:il.-o".. ofthe Nativity, as well as the Manger and the Grotto of St. Jerome. We willalso be in the Franciscan Church of St. Catherine, scene of Bethlehem's Midntght mass. As a special experience in the nearby neighborhood, a "suburb" of Bethlehem called Beit Sahour, we divide into small groups and are provided with lunch in the homes of Christian families. This will be a great opportunity to communicate with the people in this city of Christ's Birth. Time permitting, we will stop at a Bethlehem store that offers olive wood religious carvings and many other items. After dinner we go to the Church of All Nations at Gethsemane for a Holy Hour with an opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. B, L (lunch) & D JERUSALEM 10- This morning we drive to the Summit ofmt. Olives to visit the Chapel of the Ascension and the Church of Pater Noster. Walking the Palm Sunday Road, we visit and celebrate MASSINDOMINUSFLEVITCHURCH. There, too, we have a wonderful panoramic view of the City of Jerusalem. Our bus takes us to a Gate of the Old Citywhere we enter and are at the sacred Jewish Temple area of the Western Wall or Wailing Wall. Prayers are offered up at these remaining holy stones of the glorious Second Temple. We are aware that now the only structures standing above on the Temple Mount itself are the Moslem Shrines of the Dome of the Rock and Mosque el Aqsa. This afternoon we travel to Ein Karem to visit the Church ofst. John the Baptist and the Visitation Church, where Mary came to visit her cousin Elizabeth and spoke praise of God with her Magnificat. Returning to Jerusalem, we stop at the Israel Museum in west Jerusalem to see the Model of the Holy City of Jerusalem and the Second Temple, as it was in the time of Our lord. TUESDAY,JUNE
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 11- This morning we enter Old City of Jerusalem at St. Stephen's Gate, where our first stop is at the Church ofst. Anne and the Pools of Bethesda. Next, in preparation for making the Way of the Cross, we go to the CHAPEL OF FLAGELLATION to celebrate HOLY MASS. Carrying a wooden cross and praying the Way of the Cross along the streets and among the markets and shops as Jesus did on His journey to Calvary, we follow the Via Dolorosa to the Church ofthe Holy Sepulchre. Within the church, we visit Golgotha and complete our devotions at the Sacred Tomb of Jesus. This afternoon is free for our own activities. This evening we will dine in a little more festive way at a typical Middle Eastern Dinner. THURSDAY, JUNE 12 - We drive along the walls of the Old City to Mt. Zion, and we celebrate HOLY MASS in the CHURCH OF ST. PETER IN GAlLlCANTU. This church is built over the spot where Jesus was held in the dungeon of Caiphas' house, and the site of St. Peter's triple denial of Our lord. After Mass we visit the nearby traditional site of the Upper Room, remembering there with devotion the last Supper, Easter Sunday night and Pentecost Sunday. Nearby we go to Dormition Abbey Church that honors the passage of Our lady from this life to Heaven. The rest of this day is free for our personal activities or shopping. We have dinner together at our hotel. Then we head to Ben Gurion Airport for our flight home which departs a few minutes before midnight. FRIDAY, JUNE 13 - Our flight from Tel Aviv arrives in the U.S. very early this morning, flight that will bring us to our home city at the noon hour.
