The Saints of the Order of Malta and their inspiration today in the projects of the Our brotherhood will be everlasting, because the ground which this plant is rooted in, is the misery of the world - and because, God willing, there will always be people who want to work towards the alleviation of these sufferings and make this misery more bearable."

He died about 1271 and is still honoured at Caltagirone, where his relics are venerated in the Basilica of San Giacomo. The eight-pointed cross, which he ordered the brothers to wear on their cloaks and garments, as well as armour, was the symbol of their pledge to give their lives to Christ. They were to fight manfully, armed with theological virtues, so as to practice the works of mercy. For, he said to them, you must love, revere, and preserve justice; favour, relieve, and defend the oppressed." We run a sewing school to fight unemployment. It gives skills to the needy to encourage self-employment and thus to make them independent of charity.
