FROM THE EAST 3 Brethren: This month will certainly be a busy one starting with our third Stated Communication of the year and then our first Entered Apprentice Degree following, on the first Saturday of the month. Mr. Justin Letner and Mr. Adam Kendall will be joining our fraternity at 9:00 am February, 8 th. As with any Degree it would be fantastic to see the sidelines full to show these new Brothers our support for them as they take their first step into their Masonic careers. There is also a possibility that we will also be conferring the Degree on a brother from another Lodge. Br Mark Baltimore has been working diligently with his Degree team to make sure that these new Brothers receive an experience that they will be proud to carry with them for their entire Masonic life. In other news, Lady Debbie Sims, the wife of Br. Rick Sims, has agreed to assume the duties of and take over the kitchen preparing our Monthly Dinner meals. Now since Lady Deb has so graciously agreed to help us out we in turn MUST help her out by volunteering to help by setting up the dining room, helping in the kitchen with the preparation of the foods and most importantly by cleaning the kitchen after we have enjoyed her culinary delights. Taking charge, planning, shopping for and cooking these dinners is no simple prospect, just ask Br. John Greene and his Lady Marilee. To have someone of Debbie s caliber Volunteer to take on this job is a gift sent from Heaven. For the meal before our second Stated Communication we will be enjoying a steak dinner with baked potatoes, green beans a salad, rolls and desert, iced tea and coffee will also be available. All of this for the nominal fee of just $10.00 so come and dine with us. On Saturday, February 15 th there will be a work detail held at the Lodge to spruce up the kitchen with some new paint and we will be working on the parking lot to add some security measures. If any Brother cares to come and help out we are starting at 9:00 am and work through 1:00 pm and afterwards enjoy lunch together. On the morning of Saturday, February 22 nd at 9:00 am Venice Lodge will be hosting the Zone 8 Masonic Educational Workshop. Come and take part in this class and I am sure that you will learn something new or at least refresh your knowledge in Masonry. During our 2 nd Stated Communication in February we will have a visitation by our District Deputy Grand Master R:.W:. Barry D. Hart serving District 27 and the Grand Master of Florida Masons, who will be passing along a message from the M:. W:. Danny R. Griffith. R:.W:. Hart will also impart upon us his own message which I recommend all who can be present please do as his message this year is very instructional and one that you wont want to miss. Fraternally, W:. Steve Murphy Worshipful Master

4 FROM THE WEST Brethern: Welcome to the beginning of another Masonic Year. We have been practicing for an Entered Apprentice degree to be held on Saturday February 8th at 9am, Br. Mark Baltimore will be presiding in the East. We will be welcoming two new Brothers into our fraternity, Mr. Lettner and Mr. Shelton. I encourage all who can attend to support our degree team and new candidates. New fraternal Brothers entering our Lodge will provide a firm foundation for the legacy that we, as Masons, will be passing to our future generations. We have once again retrieved the travelling gavel and placed it back into our lodge room. Many brothers supported me in going to North Port Lodge to claim the travelling gavel. I wish to thank those brothers who assisted me and our Worshipful Master Steve Murphy, in bringing the gavel back to Venice lodge. Remember also brethren we will having a Steak Dinner at our stated communication on the 17th February at 6pm, this will be an " Invite a Lost Brother Night " as well, let s see if we can encourage our lost brothers to return and sit with us in lodge. Also we will be having a table lodge on Friday 28th March at 7.30 in our Lodge. Cost will be $20.00 for registration and $25.00 at the door on the night. Please register for this event with me by email or personally. My email address is (petamaka77@gmail.com). Registering is important as it allows us to prepare the correct amount of food for the participating brethren. Fraternally, Br. Derek Lynn - Senior Warden

FROM THE SOUTH 5 Brethren: The year is off and running. It s going to be an exciting year with many things on the calendar. We will be having a Lodge workday on Saturday, February 15 th. Some of the things planned are painting the kitchen and installing poles in the parking lot. Please come out and help keep our Lodge beautiful. A light lunch will also be served. I hope to see many of my fellow Brothers on this day. Please come ready to work. It should be a great day to work. It should be a great day of fellowship. Remember this is YOUR Lodge. The Monthly Dinner will be held on Monday, February 17 th. We will need help preparing and cleaning up. If you can provide assistance please let me know at (941) 716-2898. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. I would like to thank Br. John Greene and his wife Marilee for the wonderful beef stew that was served after the January 20 th meeting. It was so good!!! I would also like to thank all the Brothers who are helping out in the kitchen. The charity of the month is Meals on Wheels of Sarasota, Inc. They deliver a nutritious, hot meal Monday through Saturday to more than 460 needy residents of Sarasota County who are unable to prepare their own food. Although many of their clients are low-income residents, Meals on Wheels is not a program for the poor. Fraternally, Mark R. Baltimore J.W. CHARITY OF THE MONTH Meals on Wheels

9 MASONIC EDUCATION Submitted by : W:. Hampton Crimi The most important duty that most Masons will perform during their time as Masons will be to ballot or vote for a person or a proposal. This is a serious obligation and is not a frivolous undertaking. Therefore the process should be treated with the respect that is warranted. The Lodge is not at ease during this process and the atmosphere should be the same as during the rest of the communication. According to the Florida Monitor (pg 25) during balloting no Brother should be allowed to enter or retire except by direct order of the WM, nor should any alarm be made except under the most unusual, dire or emergent circumstances. Please consider this during the balloting or voting process. CURRENT PETITIONERS No Petitioners this month SO FAR
