PARISH NEWS On Fire With the Spirit The Spirit was welcomed into our St. John Neumann Community through the amazing power, beauty and joy of the sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday, October 14. Our young people, almost 50 of them, were filled with the Holy Spirit as Bishop Zubik laid hands on them. They now go forth to set the world ablaze with God s love and grace. This wondrous event happened because so many helped along the way. We thank the families, sponsors, god-parents, catechists, Father Al, Bishop Zubik, the music ministry and YOU, the SJN community for being a light of faith to them. We are blessed and we are grateful. Let s Share the Spirit! WORLD MISSION SUNDAY OCTOBER 22ND IS WORLD MISSION SUNDAY - a day that leads us to the heart of our Christian faith - leads us to mission! Your generosity on World Mission Sunday supports the work of priests, religious and lay leaders in the Missions who share our faith with those most in need. This year we can even chat with our chief missionary, Pope Francis, and learn more about his missions and missionaries. ChatWithThePope.org. Chat - Pray - Give this World Mission Sunday. What a BLESSING! MADE FOR CHANGE As we all think about the changes coming for our Parish, we continue to get comfortable with the idea that God designed us for change. On Monday, October 23rd, we welcome Fr. John Marcucci. He s a dynamic and entertaining spiritual speaker who will share stories of important life changes found in Scripture. As we know, All Scripture has meaning for our lives, so we invite you to come and be reassured by God s word that not only is change good, but he destined us to make it great! Bring a friend from another parish! Light refreshments served. RESTORE -relaxed. renewed. redeemed. OCT 24: Father Al - UNPLUGGED! OK, he will probably still use a microphone, but he is crafting a message just for this night and you won t want to miss him in this relaxed event. GOOD SHEPHERD PARENTS - we have custom made this opportunity for you! Our time of 6:45-7:45 is a perfect opportunity to drop the kids off for Good Shepherd, and devote some time to you to rejuvenate your own spiritual growth. ART & ENVIRONMENT Creating an environment that is pleasant, welcoming and reflective of our beautiful liturgical seasons is important. If you enjoy making things just right, have a flair for decorating, or even just have a hand to lend, consider becoming part of the environment team. If interested, call Barb Stokes and help us be prepared for change! SJN CHILDREN S CHOIR If God has given you a good voice, give it back to Him this Christmas! SJN Children s Choir will begin on Sunday October 29 immediately after the 9:30 am Mass. Grades 3 and up. COMMUNITY In the spirit of St. Francis, SJN parishioners showed up in droves, litters, packs and herds for the annual BLESSING OF PETS on Sunday, October 8th. Deacon Rick presided over the event and was met with many smiles and wagging tails. It s important to recognize the presence of God in nature and in particular in the special animals that we make part of our families. OLIVE BRANCH Make a list! October 21 & 22 are the important dates for all of us making lists for gifts (especially Christmas.) The Olive Branch will offer us a delightful, beautiful display of handiwork from Third World countries. Bovard Hall will be filled with unique & meaningful gifts that show you care to others and also help others to survive. Make your list, check it twice and come to shop. Your purchase could mean life to someone far away.

Baptism welcomes us into this community of love. Our Baptism prep session is TODAY Sunday, October 15 from 10:30 till Noon. Our Baptism prep sessions continue on Nov. 19 and Jan. 21, 2018. Register thru the Rel. Ed. office, ext. 12. COME TO THE FEAST In today s Gospel, the invitation of the king to come to the feast is extended far and wide so that the banquet hall would be full for the wedding feast of his son. Likewise, God s invitation to partake in the feast of faith is shared far and wide as he calls us to follow him to the kingdom. In both instance, however, something is required of those who are invited. While there is an expectation that the Lord will feed and nourish, us, there is also an expectation that we will be properly attired. For us that means that we are to put on Christ and share his love with others as we take the responsibility of faith seriously. On Mission for the Church Alive! is an opportunity for us to build up the Church of Pittsburgh as a tangible witness of Jesus present in the world. Not only are we charged as individuals to answer the call to love God above all and our neighbor as ourselves, but to gather as one in worship and in work and give greater effectiveness to the Body of Christ, the Church. As On Mission unfolds more will be asked of us as we come to the feast at a new place or time or with new people, yet we can trust that God will provide more for us to strengthen us and through us to strengthen others. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed. SCRIPTURE STUDY Suddenly the days are shorter and there is still lots to do! No argument there but things can change. Consider changing a bit of your schedule and find some time to rest in God s wisdom. We meet in Conf. Rm. A from 10 am to 11:30. Find the coffee in the kitchen and join us. Bring a friend as we read and reflect on the Sunday CENTERING PRAYER Listening is essential to a relationship. Come experience the gift of quiet centering to listen to the Lord. Our next Session is Tuesday, October 17 from 7 to 8 pm and will continue every other week in the adult choir room. Time to listen always helps us. Please come! RCIA - TIME TO WONDER Sometimes we wonder about our ways as we come together to worship. If you are wondering and asking questions, we ll try to come together to explore some answers with you. The door is open for RCIA Inquiry for anyone who seeks baptism or full communion with our church. Simply fill out an interest card found in the pews and drop it in the box in the lobby. Questions? Call Barb Stokes, Fr. Al or Bill/Rita Romig. We d love to hear from you.
