Course Description MOODY DISTANCE LEARNING A study of the essential principles of evangelism and discipleship as they relate to biblical methods of outreach and spiritual growth within the church. Practical instruction is given about the tools of evangelism and discipleship techniques. Students will gain ministry experience through in-class and outof-class opportunities. There are no prerequisites. Course Goals Through this course, the students will: 1. Gain convictions regarding the Scriptural basis for life-on-life disciple making. (Heart) 2. Develop a clear, biblical, vision about what it is we are to make. (Vision) 3. Know how to disciple young believers on to maturity. (Know-how) Course Objectives By the completion of this course, the students should be able to: 1. Write a personal philosophy of life-on-life disciple making based on his or her own study of Scripture. 2. Develop a personal chart that incorporates a wide variety of resources and techniques available to them in discipling others. 3. Develop personal plans for helping another believer that is both Scriptural and flexible. Assignments 1. Weekly Studies for the first six weeks: This is the heart of the course. Each study is worth five percent of your grade. The studies include the Bible passages with related questions and additional assignments. The assignments are designed to enhance your discussions and influence the participation component of your overall discussion grade as well as your study grade. Complete the entire study for each weekly study grade. The appropriate studies are included in each week s resources folder. Grading requirement for each weekly study includes the student s tracked and reported hours spent on each study. However, the final grade for the weekly study will be subject to the instructor s review of the submitted study. 2. Scripture Memory: An important aspect of the course is scripture memorization. One verse will be memorized each week and a self-correcting quiz on each verse is to be taken. The verses AND topics must be memorized. 3. The Wheel Project in Week Seven: The Wheel is a ministry tool that is designed to help you think intentionally about disciple making. The project involves analyzing The Wheel, thinking through how to use it and studying the Scriptural basis of it. 4. The Tools/Resources Chart Project in Week Eight: This assignment will help you develop a reservoir of practical tools, techniques and resources that you can use to help others grow spiritually. 5. Scripture Memory Final Exam: In Week Eight, you will be required to take a self-correcting exam of the seven memory verses included in this course. The same grading system used for the quizzes will be used here. 6. Reflection Paper: The purpose of this assignment is to have you reflect back on the previous eight weeks concerning your walk with the Lord and your understanding of disciple making. Reviewing and reflecting on the topics covered, (heart, vision, and know-how) will help direct your paper. 7. Discussion Board Participation: Participation is expected. You must maintain a significant presence in the discussion board. Please refer to the discussion board rubric included in the Course Resources section of this course for more information on how your participation in the discussion board will be assessed. 8. Discipleship Passing It On (Videos): Starting on Week 2, you will watch video clips from the Passing It On DVD. All assignments are due in accordance with the schedule listed on the Course Schedule. Your grading of the Scripture memory quizzes must be received by the last day of the weekly lesson. No late quiz grades will be accepted. 2010 The Moody Bible Institute. All rights reserved. 3
