With crowns on their heads and in front of an audience of over 200 in physical a endance and over 60 more in virtual a endance, via a new live stream broadcast the children sang, danced and celebrated their new adventures in Limud Torah. With great excitement and an cipa on, the children immediately started learning with their new Chumashim with reading every night. What a Chagiga! Kindergarten through 8th grade students and faculty danced their hearts out last Friday at what we will hope will become our annual Chanukah Chagiga. It was the perfect culmina on to an incredible week of Chanukah celebra ons in school this year. Thank you to the PTA for sponsoring this event. Our 8th graders began to set their sights on their future as they spent a great day at the ICJA this past Tuesday, seeing the school in ac on, si ng in on classes, and hearing from the administra on. It was great to see so many HT alumni and to hear from them how well prepared they felt for the rigors of high school. Mazal tov to Morah Ariela Haymberg on receiving the Hartman Family Educator of the Year Award this week at the ATT Annual Banquet. Morah Hamberg joins previous winners Mrs. Gayle Kopin and Mrs. Lior Kakon, and has helped Hillel Torah become the only school that has had a teacher win this award every year since its incep on three years ago. As part of our 21st Century Learning ini a ve, all Middle School students have recently received school email accounts which will enable them to communicate more effec vely with their teachers and classmates, and u lize 21st Century Learning tools such as Google Docs, Blogs, Forums and Voice Thread (an audio blog). SCHOOL-WIDE SCOOP Parsha Perspective פרשת ויגש Parshat Vayigash By: Morah Krupnick & Morah Rochelle s Nursery Class The name of this week s parsha is Vayigash. Yehuda came to Yosef. Yosef said to give Binyamin to him as a slave. He said no because he said to his Abba Yaakov that he s taking charge of him because Menashe found Yosef s cup in Binyamin s sack. Yosef said to the Mitzrim to leave the room. Menashe kicked the walls of the place and it started to shake. Yosef told his brothers that he was the lost brother. They were afraid. He said don t be afraid because Hashem planned everything to throw him into jail and into the pit. The brother s came back with the wagons of food. That s how Yaakov knew Yosef was alive. Serach was singing Yosef is alive. She played a harp. Everyone came down to live in Goshen. Yaakov was davening Shma and he didn t stop. Everybody bowed down to Yosef and his dream came true. Bilha bowed down to him. Yaakov saw that Yosef was still a Tzadik. Middle School Moments Spotlight on 8th Grade Science: "Hillel Torah Automotive" This week in 8th grade Science, students took their studies from the theoretical to the practical. After studying Bernoulli's principle and its application to hydraulic breaks, students used the information and explained how automobile breaks actually work. But that wasn't all; each student paired with a partner and created an imaginary auto repair shop. Each group then issued a business letter describing why an imaginary customer was having difficulty with their breaks and what was required to fix them. The letters were properly formatted and students even designed their own letterheads. What a fun way to examine the principles of forces in fluids! Ms. Elyse Levine, 8th Gr. Science Teacher Visit from a Soldier Oryah Rudick's brother Yair who serves as a soldier in an elite unit in Tzahal presented today to our 6th graders and shared his military experiences and mission. Thanks, Yair. Stay tuned for details of the 6th Grade Tzahal Winter Supplies Drive! Good and Welfare Mazal tov to Aliza and Menachem Rosenbaum on the birth of a baby girl, Devora Tehilla! Mazal tov to big brother Ezra. May the baby grow to a life of Torah, Chupah, and Maasim Tovim! Mazal tov to Alida and Danny Harris on Dodi s bat mitzvah last week. May Dodi con nue to be a source of nachat to her parents, family, and Klal Yisrael. HT Flames Scoreboard Mazal tov to Miriam & Eytan Dallal on Tamar s bat mitzvah. Winter is Here! We have budding ar sts in our nursery classes. A er being introduced to the works of Michelangelo, Seurat, Roy Lichtenstein, Leonardo da Vinci, Jackson Pollack and others, the children experimented with colors and techniques to create their own original masterpieces. The pre nursery children are totally taken with Pete the Cat. This week, during B Yachad, they read and reread Pete and His Four Groovy Bu ons and played a Pete the Cat memory game. Another favorite is Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes. Take a walk down the hallway and check out their bulle n board, because the pre nursery children are rocking in their own originally designed groovy school shoes. With the onset of the new season, the children are immersing themselves in learning and ac vi es about choref WINTER!!! The experiments in kindergarten science progressed from observing water to finding out about the proper es of ice! The children loved experimen ng with ice cubes, salt and yarn and were great scien sts, making observa ons, experimen ng and drawing conclusions. December 21 st is the first day of winter, the last day of school before winter break and it is the day that we extend a Tzeitchem L Shalom to the Shamir Family as they return to Israel. Itamar began in kindergarten just a few years ago. And now Yotam is in our kindergarten and Bnaya is in our nursery. We have become so a ached to the children and to the en re Shamir Family that at the same me that we wish them well, we are so sad to say goodbye. We wish them con nued nachat from their wonderful children and hatzlacha as they make their return journey to Israel. We plan to stay in touch with them the children will be our Israeli correspondents. We wish all our families a Shabbat Shalom and an enjoyable res ul and safe winter break! Early Childhood Chit-Chat Shabbat Shalom! Spotlight on Nursery A: Fine Artists This week our Nursery class learned about fine ar sts. The children drew pictures using primary colors and sharpies in the style of Roy Lichtenstein, collaged cut paper shapes in the style of Henri Ma sse, spla ered paint in the style of Jackson Pollack, and colored on the underside of the table inspired by Michelangelo. The pictures adorn our classroom wall, making us feel as if we have entered an expensive art gallery or the finest art museum in the world!
