Pastor s Page Some Extra Love I have noticed, February has officially evolved into the Heart month. Imagery and verbiage associated with the Heart has been strategically arranged throughout the month. In 2004, the first Friday in February was established as National Wear Red Day. Red because Hearts are typically red, and because the American Heart Associations took up the challenge of raising awareness for Heart disease which is the leading cause of death in women. Then there is February 20th, National Love your Pet Day. Many people, event pet lovers, have no idea this day exist on the National calendar. However those pet lovers who celebrate this date can testify the imagery almost always includes a unique partnership between pets and Hearts. Last but certainly not least, there is February 14th, Valentines Day. Although millions of people use this day as an opportunity to send Some Extra Love to their loved ones, there are many who have lost sight of the joy wrapped up sharing special Valentines Day greetings. I can recall vividly the anxiety growing in my stomach in grade school as I awaited the end of the day to see if someone cared enough about me to send me Some Extra Love on Valentines Day. What I remember most is how kids were always as thrilled to give a they were to receive. No one wanted to be the kids in the class who had no Valentines Day cards to distribute. This grade school imagery of exchanging greetings has longed been replaced because of technological advances. However, I believe the sentiment behind the school aged tradition remains. People sit with growing anxiety wondering if and when they will receive Some Extra Love in their lives, as well as when they will have an opportunity to give Some Extra Love. The need to love and be loved percolates within our hearts 365 days a year. Valentines Day is one day, but Heart month provides us all many opportunities to spread Some Extra Love into the lives of those around us which in turn, opens us up to receive Some Extra Love. Proverbs 17:17 states, A friend loves at all times Pastor D. Marie 2
