Our Lady of Peace The Most Holy Trinity Explanation of Andrei Rublev's Icon of The Trinity The Father looks forward, raising his hand in blessing to the Son. It is impossible to tell whether he looks up at the Son or down to the chalice on the table, but his gesture expresses a movement towards the Son. This is my Son, listen to him The hand of the Son points on, around the circle, to the Spirit. In this simple array we see the movement of life towards us, The Father sends the Son, the Son sends the Spirit. The life flows clockwise around the circle. And we complete the circle. As the Father sends the Son, as the Son sends the Holy Spirit, so we are invited and sent to complete the circle of the Godhead with our response. And we respond to the movement of the Spirit who points us to Jesus. And he shows us the Father in whom all things come to fruition. This is the counter-clockwise movement of our lives, in response to the movement of God. And along the way are the three signs at the top of the picture, the hill, the tree, and the house. THE INEXPRESSIBLE MYSTERY The God of the universe is mysterious. Science has not been able to solve the mystery of how the universe came into being or explain exactly what continues to give it creative energy and masterful design. No religion asserts that it has found words to name fully the ineffable mystery of God, for no matter what name we use, God always transcends our limited ability to understand. God is a mystery to be believed, not known. And yet, we Christians believe that our name for God best expresses that inexpressible mystery: God is the Most Holy Trinity of three persons united in a communion of love, pouring forth that creative, saving, sanctifying love into the world. Today s scriptures celebrate the mystery of the Trinity and give us clues for living that mystery in our lives. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

June 13: Sylvia B., Phyllis D., Joanie M., Charlie R., Phil T., Sarah F., Glenn B., Donna R. June 14: Nancy A., Mary Beth N., Mary Fran P., Peggy R., Alice S. When at Mass offer the Mass for Vocations by praying the prayer below... Serra Prayer for Vocations O God, who wills not the death of a sinner * but rather that he be converted and live * grant we beseech you * through the intercession of the Blessed Mary, ever Virgin * Saint Joseph, her spouse * St. Junipero Serra * and all the saints * an increase of laborers for your Church * fellow laborers with Christ to spend and consume themselves for souls * through the same Jesus Christ * Your Son * Who lives and reigns with You * In the unity of the Holy Spirit * God forever * and ever. OUR LADY OF PEACE CHURCH From the Pastor s Desk To My Spiritual Family of Our Lady of Peace, A Blessed Trinity Sunday to you! The mystery of the Trinity is the most essential belief for us in the hierarchy of faith as Catholics. The early church s experience of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost completed the revelation of the Trinity in the plan of salvation so it is appropriate that we celebrate Trinity Sunday right after Pentecost Sunday. God reveals Himself to us as a community of divine persons in love and we seek to reflect His image in us when we live as a community of persons in love in our families and in our parish. So the question for us on Trinity Sunday is just that how are we doing at allowing God to reveal Himself to our world through us, by living as that community of love? Join me in praying this week for growth of love in our parish. May God bless our week ahead! Yours in Christ, Fr. Rich Our Lady of Peace. pray for us! St. Joseph, universal patron of the church. pray for us! St. Patrick, patron of the Diocese of Erie. pray for us! Other notes from the pastor. **Pastoral Council New Member Update Thank you for all those who nominated themselves or others for our Pastoral Council at Our Lady of Peace. Eleven nominations were entered and after prayer and a Litany to the Holy Spirit, five names were selected by lot following the example in the Acts of the Apostles where the early church cast lots to select the replacement of Judas (recall that St. Matthias was selected). We are still solidifying the final five positions and will announce the new council members as soon as it is final. **Youth and Vocations Holy Hour This Monday, June 12 th at 7pm is our next Holy Hour with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for the intentions of our youth and vocations in our church. Fr. Mike Polinek, Vocation Director for the Diocese of Erie, will be our presider and homilist. **Father s Day Blessing Next weekend we will celebrate our fathers with a special blessing for them at the end of all Masses. Children, please encourage your fathers to join us at Mass and offer our blessing of them as part of your gift to them. Fathers, encourage your children to join you for Mass as part of their Father s Day gift to you. Thank you fathers for all you do for us! **We will celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (traditionally called Corpus Christi) on Sunday, June 18 th with a Eucharistic Procession after the 11am Mass which will end in the Chapel. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will continue throughout the day and conclude at 3:50pm with Benediction. Sign-up to spend a half hour with our Lord. **Volunteer Help with Cleaning Sanctuary and Watering Flowers Right now we have only a few people helping clean the sanctuary in the church and watering flowers. I would like to get a group of volunteers for each of these jobs so that we can have a schedule for rotation. Please call the parish office if you are willing to help with either of these tasks that keep our church environment beautiful.
