Enjoying God s Fellowship Sermon Love is the Fulfilling of the Law Pastor Glenn Parkinson Sermon text: Romans 13:8-10 8 Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9 For the commandments, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet, and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. Sending Song O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus O the deep, deep love of Jesus, vast, unmeasured, boundless, free! Rolling as a mighty ocean in its fullness over me! Underneath me, all around me, is the current of Thy love Leading onward, leading homeward to Thy glorious rest above! O the deep, deep love of Jesus, spread His praise from shore to shore! How He loveth, ever loveth, changeth never, nevermore! How He watches o er His loved ones, died to call them all His own; How for them He intercedeth, watcheth o er them from the throne! O the deep, deep love of Jesus, love of every love the best! Tis an ocean full of blessing, tis a haven giving rest! O the deep, deep love of Jesus, tis a heaven of heavens to me; And it lifts me up to glory, for it lifts me up to Thee! Samuel T. Francis Ebenezer by Thomas J. Williams 13
Reflection: Reflection & Preparation Romans 13:8-10 If the Decalogue is a summary of the law of God, then it summarizes that sufficient standard. Compare the law of love, an even more concise summary of the law. If we truly love God and one another, we will certainly want to seek the utmost perfection of every duty and avoid the least degree of every sin. (John Frame, The Doctrine of the Christian Life, pg.393) This Week: Deuteronomy 10:12-22 What Does the LORD Require From You 1 John 4:20, 21 Whoever Loves God Must Love His Brother Colossians 3:12-17 Galatians 5:13-15 Above All These Put On Love Through Love Serve One Another Prayer: Lord, make us instruments of Your peace. Where there is hatred, let us sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is discord, union; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. Grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; the be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen. (Prayer attributed to Saint Francis) In Preparation for Sunday: Romans 13:11-14 14
