ORDER OF WORSHIP January 15, 2017 2 nd Sunday after Epiphany Please sign and pass the Friendship Book ( pew pad ) where you can also record any prayer requests. Our prayer is that you will experience the presence of the Living God as we worship together. We invite you to focus your heart and mind in worship. Please silence your cell phones. * indicates please stand as you are able. WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS Dick Raymond PRELUDE Shall We Gather at the River Organ Patricia Lou Harris Dick Raymond Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. Praise the Lord with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. The Lord loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love. CALL TO WORSHIP *SONGS OF WORSHIP: JOYFUL, JOYFUL, WE ADORE THEE (Hymn #20) (VERSE 1) Joyful, joyful, we adore thee, God of glory, Lord of love; hearts unfold like flowers before thee, opening to the sun above. Melt the clouds of sin and sadness, drive the dark of doubt away; giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day! (VERSE 2) Psalm 33:1 5 (NIV)

All thy works with joy surround thee, earth and heaven reflect thy rays, stars and angels sing around thee, center of unbroken praise. Field and forest, vale and mountain, flowery meadow, flashing sea, chanting bird and flowing fountain call us to rejoice in thee. (VERSE 3) Thou art giving and forgiving, ever blessing, ever blest, well-spring of the joy of living, ocean depth of happy rest! Thou our Father, Christ our Brother all who live in love are thine; teach us how to love each other, lift us to the joy divine. HOW GREAT THOU ART (Hymn #21) (VERSE 1) O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds thy hands have made, I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, thy power throughout the universe displayed. (VERSE 2) When through the woods and forest glades I wander and hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees, when I look down from lofty mountain grandeur, and hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze.

(VERSE 3) And when I think that God, his Son not sparing, sent him to die, I scarce can take it in, that on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, he bled and died to take away my sin. (VERSE 4) When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation and take me home, what joy shall fill my heart! Then I shall bow in humble adoration, and there proclaim, My God, how great thou art. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Rev. Don Meekhof Karen Colvin Call to Confession Let us confess our sins to God, for the Holy One is steadfast in love and always ready to forgive. The children are excused at this time to attend Junior Chapel. Offertory Reflections Organ David Paxton SCRIPTURE READINGS Isaiah 1:11 20 (NIV) Lois Robertson 11 The multitude of your sacrifices what are they to me? says the Lord. I have more than enough of burnt offerings, of rams and the fat of fattened animals; I have no pleasure in the blood of bulls and lambs and goats. 12 When you come to appear before me, who has asked this of you, this trampling of my courts? 13 Stop bringing meaningless offerings! Your incense is detestable to me. New Moons, Sabbaths and convocations I cannot bear your worthless assemblies.

14 Your New Moon feasts and your appointed festivals I hate with all my being. They have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them. 15 When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you; even when you offer many prayers, I am not listening. Your hands are full of blood! 16 Wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight; stop doing wrong. 17 Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. [a] Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow. 18 Come now, let us settle the matter, says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. 19 If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land; 20 but if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken. 1 Corinthians 1:1 9 (NIV) Dick Raymond 1 Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and our brother Sosthenes, 2 To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be his holy people, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ their Lord and ours: 3 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

4 I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. 5 For in him you have been enriched in every way with all kinds of speech and with all knowledge 6 God thus confirming our testimony about Christ among you. 7 Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed. 8 He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. MESSAGE Rev. Forrest Buckner Joyful Participation in God's Work of Justice Sermon Text: Mark 6:30 44 *SONG OF WORSHIP: TAKE MY LIFE AND LET IT BE CONSECRATED (Hymn #568) (VERSE 1) Take my life and let it be consecrated, Lord to thee; take my hands and let them move at the impulse of thy love, at the impulse of thy love (VERSE 2) Take my feet and let them be swift and beautiful for thee; take my voice and let me sing

always, only, for my King, always, only, for my King. (VERSE 3) Take my lips and let them be filled with messages for thee; take my silver and my gold, not a mite would I withhold, not a mite would I withhold. (VERSE 4) Take my love, my God, I pour at thy feet its treasure store; take myself and I will be ever, only, all for thee, ever, only all for thee. Copyright: Public Domain BENEDICTION Rev.
