This week we draw our Summer of Love series to a close with the phrase love never fails (I Cor. 13:8). God chooses to love us. We don t deserve God s love, nor can we earn it. He simply lavishes us with His love and encourages us to do that with others. We will use a lesson from the nation of Israel to demonstrate God s love. NEXT WEEK AT ELMHURST CRC We resume our regular pattern of worshipping at 8:55 and 11:05 a.m. as we begin a new series on the book of Ephesians. The Apostle Paul begins this letter to his favorite church by describing to them what it truly means to be "blessed." Please read Ephesians 1:3-14 to prepare for this worship service. OUR CHURCH FAMILY Journey to the Center of the Church is a three-week class to help prepare you for membership at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church. Classes will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 30, and October 7 from 6:30-8:30 pm. If you re interested in becoming part of the Elmhurst CRC family, please call the church office at 630-600-5043 to register, or speak to Pastor Gregg DeMey. Attending the classes does not obligate you to become a member, so feel free to attend even if you re simply curious. Childcare available, advance notice required. Confidential Prayer Chain: To send prayer requests or to be added to the prayer chain, e-mail prayer@elmhurstcrc.org or call Dianne Zunkel at 630-530-7822. ANNOUNCEMENTS All are invited to attend the Annual Combined Labor Day Service this evening at Faith CRC (1070 South Prospect Avenue, Elmhurst) at 6 p.m. Dr. David Armstrong will be leading the service. Dr. Armstrong was ordained in 1965 and served churches in Pennsylvania and Illinois. He was a pastor at Elmhurst CRC for 22 years and received his doctorate from Fuller Theological Seminary. Dr. Armstrong, who has lived in Elmhurst since 1986, is enjoying his retirement with his wife, one daughter and five grandchildren. This year s host church, Western Springs CRC, hopes to see you there! My Brother's Kitchen is a ministry in the Lawndale area that ECRC partners with on the second Saturday of each month. Volunteers help set up, serve a hot meal to the residents in the area, and clean up. Time frame is about 9 a.m. -1 p.m. on the designated day. This is a great opportunity for small groups, neighborhood groups or families to do together- or you can sign up individually as well. Contact Bob Keizer at rnckeizer@prodigy.net for more information or to select a date. We desperately need September volunteers to help us fill our commitment to them. It's Diaper Derby time again. We'll be collecting name brand baby items and gently worn or new clothes for the moms of CareNet of DuPage. The need, of course, is ongoing, and we are grateful for your faithful donations in the past and to the CareNet Cube. This event runs from

September 7 through October 6. Thank you in advance for your generosity, as these events are an important part of this ministry. The Thursday morning men's group will begin on Thursday, September 11 at 9 in the conference room. We will discuss "Commonly Misunderstood Verses of the Bible" (a course from Western Seminary). The fee for materials is $5. All men are invited. All women are invited to join us at our first GROW Women's Ministry meeting of the year on Tuesday, September 9, at 7 p.m. in the Garden Room. Our speaker will be Pastor Tracey Bianchi from Christ Church of Oak Brook. She will speak about finding your calling and purpose in her talk, "True You." We will also have time for fellowship, treats and giveaways. Come and join us at GROW this year! Coffee Break begins on September 17 and 18. Our fall study is "Our Faithful Friend: Embracing God's Intimacy." Everyone is welcome, no matter what their level of Bible knowledge. This is also a great opportunity to invite a friend or neighbor. For more information and to register online visit elmhurstcrc.org/coffeebreak. Auditions for the Contemporary Worship Team. Are you interested in singing or playing an instrument with the Contemporary Worship Team? We're holding auditions on Wednesday, September 10. For more information or to schedule a time, please email Doug at doug.bardolph@elmhurstcrc.org. All are welcome to be a part of our chancel choir this year as we help in leading the 8:55 service. Rehearsals will begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10 - only an hour of singing and fun. Hope to see former members and lots of new faces! Prime Time (formerly Elmhurst Senior Ministry), a ministry for those 55 and older, invites you to our fall kick-off event. On Wednesday, September 10, at 1 pm, Alan Atwood will present his new one man play, Joseph. In his signature style, Alan plays a multitude of modern characters - some comic, some serious - that parallel the life of Joseph and bring us face to face with people surrounding his story. The story revolves around the themes of forgiveness and reconciliation - something we can all relate to - and God s power to help us achieve both. The play will take place at Elmhurst CRC, and refreshments will be served following the program. To register call Bert or Celia DeJong at (630) 530-2924. Donations to help defray the cost of the event will be accepted. GEMS needs you! We are looking for GEMS counselors for 5th grade, 6th grade, and 7th grade girls. This is a really fun way to serve! If you are interested please contact Chris Kocol at vppeach333@yahoo.com.

Pathfinders is looking for leaders for 1st and 3rd grades! Please prayerfully consider joining our team. Contact Stefanie Lemkuil at slemkuil@yahoo.com if you are interested.
