Welcome to Zion Lutheran Church! 1732 S. Main St. Aberdeen, SD 57401 605-225-6755 Email: zion@nvc.net Website: www.zionlutheranaberdeen.org February 21, 2016 10:45 am 2nd Sunday in Lent Though we sometimes doubt and often resist God s desire to protect and save us, our God persists. In holy baptism, God s people have been called and gathered into a God-initiated relationship that will endure. Lent provides the church with a time and a tradition in which to seek the face of the Lord again. Lent provides another occasion to behold the God of our salvation in the face of the Blessed One who comes in the name of the Lord. GATHERING MUSIC WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS PRAYER OF CONFESSION (please stand) Holy God, we confess that we have followed the ways of the world, worshiped the idols that promise worldly satisfaction, wealth and fame. We have not love those on the margins, and we have failed to work to end oppression and injustice. Forgive our narrow-mindedness, our short-sightedness. Call us back into your ways, looking to Jesus our Savior as our model and example. In Christ s name we pray. Amen. BLESSING & ASSURANCE OF PARDON Opportunities to participate in God s justice abound. Chances to love our neighbor and care for those on the margins are all around. Instances in which we can know we are forgiven are too numerous to count. God s love knows no measure, no bounds. Listen now, you are loved and forgiven. Participate in the world we are in by living in the ways of the heavenly kingdom, caring for all of God s children. Amen. 1 OPENING SONG Cry Of My Heart Terry Butler Teach me Your holy ways, O Lord, So I can walk in Your truth. Teach me Your holy ways, O Lord, And make me wholly devoted to You. Open my eyes so I can see The wonderful things that You do. Open my heart up more and more And make me wholly devoted to You. All of the days of my life. All of the days of my life. PRAYER OF THE DAY God of the covenant, in the mystery of the cross you promise everlasting life to the world. Gather all peoples into your arms, and shelter us with your mercy, that we may rejoice in the life we share in your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. (please be seated) 2

HOLY GOSPEL Luke 13:31-35 Pew Bible NT page 78 (please be seated) MESSAGE Pastor Erin SONG OF THE DAY Take My Life Frances Havergal, Chris Tomlin & Louie Giglio Take my life and let it be Consecrated Lord to Thee. Take my moments and my days, Let them flow in ceaseless praise. Take my hands and let them move, At the impulse of Thy love. Take my feet and let them be Swift and beautiful for Thee. 3 I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. (please be seated) 4

Please come forward as directed by the ushers. Grape juice and gluten free wafers are available; please indicate to the server by raising your hand. DISTRIBUTION SONGS The Heart of Worship Matt Redman When the music fades, all is stripped away, and I simply come; Longing just to bring something that s of worth that will bless your heart. I ll bring you more than a song, for a song in itself is not what You have required. You search much deeper within through the way things appear; You re looking into my heart. King of endless worth, no one could express how much You deserve. Though I m weak and poor, all I have is Yours, ev ry single breath. I ll bring You more than a song, for a song in itself is not what You have required. You search much deeper within through the way things appear; You re looking into my heart. PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION (please stand) O God, we thank you for gathering and feeding us as a mother hen embraces her young. Release us now to go on our way in these forty days, ready to see our work as prayer, ready to fast from complacency, and ready to share with those in need; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. BLESSING Go into this week brimming over with the love God has for you, nourished by the forgiveness of Jesus Christ, empowered with the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Amen SENDING SONG How Great Is Our God Chris Tomlin, Jesse Reeves, Ed Cash The splendor of the King, clothed in majesty; Let all the earth rejoice, all the earth rejoice.
