This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. - John 15:11-12 ESV This morning s sermon: A Surprising End Matthew 25:31-46 Pastor Bill Evans 3

Order of Worship Entering God s Presence Call to Worship from John 20:21; Romans 10:17 (NIV) As the Father has sent me, I am sending you. So faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. Gathering Song He Is Exalted Page 10 Prayer of Invocation Mutual Greeting Responsive Reading, Isaac Boro from James 2:14-18 Leader: What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? People: If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, Go in peace, be warmed and filled, without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? Leader: So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. People: But someone will say, You have faith and I have works. Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. Leader: This is the Word of the Lord People: Thanks Be To God Pastoral Prayer 4

Offertory May the Mind of Christ, My Savior May the mind of Christ my Savior Live in me from day to day, By His love and pow r controlling All I do and say. May the word of God dwell richly In my heart from hour to hour, So that all may see I triumph Only through His pow r. May the peace of God my Father Rule my life in everything, That I may be calm to comfort Sick and sorrowing. May the love of Jesus fill me As the waters fill the sea; Him exalting, self abasing- This is victory. May I run the race before me, Strong and brave to face the foe, Looking only unto Jesus As I onward go. May His beauty rest upon me As I seek the lost to win, And may they forget the channel, Seeing only Him. Text adapted from Kate B. Wilkinson Music by A. Cyril Barham-Gould; St. Leonards 8

Hymn of Response The Church s One Foundation The Church s one foundation, Is Jesus Christ, her Lord; She is His new creation, By water and the Word: From heav n He came and sought her, To be His holy bride; With His own blood He bought her, And for her life He died. Elect from ev ry nation, yet one o er all the earth, Her charter of salvation, One Lord, one faith, one birth; One holy name she blesses, Partakes one holy food, And to one hope she presses, With ev ry grace endued. Mid toil and tribulation, And tumult of her war, She waits the consummation, Of peace forevermore; Till with the vision glorious, Her longing eyes are blest, And the great church victorious, Shall be the church at rest. Yet she on earth hath union, With God the Three in One, And mystic sweet communion, With those whose rest is won: O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we, Like them, the meek and lowly, On high may dwell with Thee. Words by Samuel Stone, 1866; Music by Brian Moss; 1996 Parson John Publishing (ASCAP). CCLI no. 56194 11

Song of Praise Take My Life Take my life, and let it be Consecrated, Lord, to Thee; Take my moments and my days; Let them flow in ceaseless praise. Take my hands and let them move At the impulse of Thy love. Take my feet and let them be Swift and beautiful for Thee. Take my voice and let me sing Always, only, for my King; Take my lips and let them be Filled with messages from Thee. Take my silver and my gold; Not a mite would I withhold. Take my intellect and use Every pow r as You choose. Chorus Here am I, all of me. Take my life, it s all for Thee. Take my will and make it Thine; It shall be no longer mine. Take my heart, it is Thine own; It shall be Thy royal throne. Take my love -- my Lord, I pour At Your feet its treasure store. Take myself, and I will be Ever, only, all for Thee. Sending Song We Beseech Thee Jesus, with Thy Church abide, Be her Savior, Lord, and Guide, While on earth her faith is tried: We beseech Thee. All her fettered pow rs release, Bid our strife and envy cease, Grant the heavenly gift of peace: We beseech Thee. Chorus May she guide the poor and blind, Seek the lost until she find, And the broken hearted bind: We beseech Thee. May she one in doctrine be, One in truth and charity, Winning all to faith in Thee: We beseech Thee. May her lamp of truth be bright, Bid her bear a loft its light. Through the realms of darkest night: We beseech Thee. May her guides Thy people feed, Shepherds of the flock indeed, Ready, where thou call st, to lead: We beseech Thee. May she holy triumphs win, Over throw the hosts of sin, Gather all the nations in: We beseech Thee. Chorus May we guide the poor and blind, Seek the lost until we find, And the broken hearted bind: We beseech Thee. Thomas Benson Pollock The New Ancients 13

Reflection & Preparation Reflection: Matthew 25:31-46 Quote - This Week: But when Paul says that at the final judgment believers track records (things done in the body ) since they became Christians will in some sense come back to them as their destiny, he is talking about something else: namely, what we label rewards, the divine acknowledgement of faithful service rendered. (J. I. Packer, Weakness Is the Way, pg. 34) Isaiah 58:1-12 Hebrews 13:1-3 Romans 12:9-21 Is this not the fast I choose Let love of brethren continue Conquer evil with good Prayer: O God, the strength of all who put their trust in you: Mercifully accept our prayers; and because in our weakness we can do nothing good without you, give us the help of your grace, that in keeping your commandments we may please you both in will and deed; through Jesus Christ our Lord who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. (From the Book of Common Prayer) In Preparation for Sunday: Jonah 2:1-10 The Pray for Me Campaign: This week we are praying various verses of Proverbs for our youth. We ask that God s wisdom and love would shine through our students. 14
