Student 4 (SVS) Hi, my name is St. Vincent de Paul. 400 years ago, during mass one Sunday, I asked the parishioners to help a family in need. There was so much food that was brought to them. I realized that the women who wanted to help, wanted to do so much more. So I founded a group called the Ladies of Charity, where they helped the poor and needy. As Vincentians, I am sure you have learned about me in school and even when your VMY meets. But as the day goes on you ll find out more about my life and mission than Wikipedia may know. Student 5 (Talpa) Hi, my name is St. Louise de Marillac. I started helping the poor in the streets of Paris with St. Vincent de Paul. We saw that so many people were in need of help. In 1633, we started the Daughters of Charity to help the poor and needy. Today, there are over 17,000 Daughters of Charity all over the world. Student 6 (MOS) Hi, I am St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and I had a dream of helping children who were poor get a Catholic education. I started the Sisters of Charity in the 1800 s, which later became part of the Daughters of Charity. I also began the Catholic School system that schools like St. Vincent, Our Mother of Sorrows, and Our Lady of Talpa belong to today. Student 7 (MOS) Hi, I am St. Catherine Labouré. When I was 9-years-old, my mother died. At her funeral, I declared that the Blessed Virgin Mary would be my mother and devoted my life to her, thereafter. She appeared to me 3 times while I was preparing to be a Daughter of Charity. She wanted the Miraculous Medal to be made. And, during the First Apparition on July 18, 1830, Mary wanted to start a youth association, which is now called the Vincentian Marian Youth, a special group you are part of. (Pause and look at the members).
VMY Leader Thank you St. Vincent, St. Louise and St. Elizabeth Ann and St. Catherine for sharing a little about our Vincentian roots. Let s start the 1 st activity.
Let us pray along with Our Lady of Talpa as we say the VMY Prayer before lunch. Vincentian Marian Youth Prayer Lord Jesus, We come to you with Mary Immaculate. You, the friend of the little ones and of the poor, we praise you. You care for each of us with so much love! Teach us to LIVE TOGETHER with the dynamism of your Spirit, who draws us to a way of life filled with wonder, truth, and action. Enable us to LOOK AT others with the eyes of the heart, so as to recognize the wonders that you work in them, especially in the underprivileged. Help us to BUILD a world of brothers and sisters where no one is marginalized. Grant us to act not in a spirit of power and domination, but in humble spirit of service. Amen.
Mother of Sorrows: Let us end the Vincentian-filled day with much gratitude and renewed spirit. Mother of Sorrows will lead us in a decade of the Rosary and after, we will altogether say the Vincentian Marian Youth Promise Prayer. In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Oh Mary conceived with sin, pray for us who have recourse to you. Let us end our day with our VMY Promise. VMY Promise I thank you Jesus for loving me and sending your mother Mary to journey with us on earth. With the help of the Holy Spirit and the guidance of the Blessed Virgin Mary, before the other VMY members, I promise to continue to live as part of the VMY, in the spirit of Mary s yes. I want to live in the world with my whole heart, caring for those who suffer. I want to recognize God in all of creation especially in people who are poor. I want to serve others with a loving and humble heart. As a sign of my promise, I welcome the Miraculous Medal as a link of hope between Mary and me. May Mary support me in my call to walk each day toward Christ and my sisters and brothers who are poor. Amen.
