INSTITUTO JMJ RIO (RIO WYD INSTITUTE) Contest to choose the logo of the World Youth Day (WYD) 2013 in the city of Rio de Janeiro Rules / WYD RIO2013 / 01-2011 GENERAL PRESENTATION The World Youth Day (WYD) is an international meeting of young people that like to make friends and celebrate a message of love, peace and union preached by Jesus Christ. The hope of a better world is in a healthy, valiant, responsible youth, and beyond everything, a youth aimed to God and to the nearby people, once said by Pope John Paul ll, head of the event. The meeting lasts a week approximately. The agenda provides activities of catechism, praying, Eucharist, lectures, praying moments, music shows and a meeting with the Pope Benedict XVI. The first World Youth Day of the Catholic Church was officially performed on the Palm Sunday of 1984, in Rome, also the local of the 2nd edition, in 1985. Ever since, Catholic and non-catholic pilgrims cross the world every two or three years, as a general rule, to celebrate the life, the union between other people and the message of faith and hope preached by Jesus Christ. In 2011, the event was held in Madrid, and gathered more than 2 million young people from all over the world. The next World Youth Day (WYD) will happen in the Archdiocese of São Sebastião in Rio de Janeiro, the meeting will attract millions of young people from everywhere, in mid- July 2013, and the Pope will be present. RULES CHAPTER I OBJECT 1 st Article The INSTITUTO JMJ RIO, responsible for the organization of the World Youth Day that will be held in the Archdiocese of São Sebastião in Rio de Janeiro in mid-july 2013, promotes this contest, which aims to produce the event's official logo that graphically represents the identity of the WYD RIO2013. Sole Paragraph - The execution and organization of the contest will be in charge of the Setor de Comunicação do INSTITUTO JMJ RIO (Communication Sector of the Institute WYD RIO). CHAPTER II THEME 2 nd Article The design is a logo that should address the theme of WYD RIO2013, which is "Go and make disciples of all nations", taken from the Gospel of Matthew 28:19. 3 rd Article The graphic design must meet the following main criteria: I - Original design and unpublished; II - Include in it the acronyms JMJ RIO2013; III - Reflect the Christian identity of the event; IV - Must contain a cross or clear and unambiguous reference to the symbol; V Must be representative of Rio de Janeiro; VI It is not allowed to use pictures in the composition of the proposed logo; VII - The theme of WYD RIO2013 should be used for inspiration: "Go and make disciples of all nations" (Mat 28:19). Sole paragraph - Failure to observe any of the items causes the disqualification of the competitor. CHAPTER III PARTICIPATION 4 th Article May participate in the contest individuals aged at least 18 (eighteen) years. 1 st Paragraph Exceptionally, minors will be admitted to the contest, if expressly authorized by his guardian, without prejudice to the clause alluding to transfer the
copyright. 2 nd Paragraph The author of the logo may be one person or a group of people; 3 rd Paragraph It is not permitted to register for participants who have family ties by blood or marriage with members of the judging committee; 5 th Article The INSTITUTO JMJ RIO reserves the right to publish the designs of logo, as well as allowing the use of the work to third parties without any charge and without notification to the winning competitor, provided the publicizing of the author and recognition of his credits in the form of Article 29 and its subsections of Law 9.610/98 (Copyright Act). The object of this assignment are all competing designs in this LOGO CONTEST, regardless of the classification obtained. CHAPTER IV REGISTRATION AND DEADLINES 6 th Article The REGISTRATION period is between September 27 th and October 31 st 2011, not extendable, and the present rules and term of free transfer of copyright will be available on the official website www.rio2013.com. Sole paragraph The act of registration in the logo contest implies the full knowledge and acceptance of all items of these rules, as well as the logo design of the INSTITUTO JMJ RIO conveyance of use and of copyright, without any charge, considering the goal of the contest. 7 th Article In the act of logo registration, the participants must present: I final logo artwork, in a proper package, to ensure the integrity of the material; II only one file in JPEG format with the final logo artwork; III sealed envelope identified with the competitor s pseudonym, placed on the back of the logo, bringing inside information about: a. Name and address of the competitor; b. Text of the author explaining the inspiration of the drawing and the meaning of the graphic elements used; c. Declaration of the author, notarized for authenticity, yielding the respective copyrights of any nature in favor of INSTITUTO JMJ RIO and authorizing the technical staff responsible for the final logo artwork, to make any changes required in the chosen logo, which is now owned by INSTITUTO JMJ RIO, according to the Attachment 1 to these rules. 8 th Article The material requested above must be sent by post duly registered, in a single file, as well as all original documentation required to perform properly the registration, to INSTITUTO JMJ RIO at the following address: INSTITUTO JMJ RIO - Setor de Comunicação Concurso para escolha da logomarca da Jornada Mundial da Juventude de 2013, na cidade do Rio de Janeiro. Rua Benjamin Constant, no 23 7o andar - Glória ZIP CODE: 20.241-150 - Rio de Janeiro/RJ - Brasil 1 st Paragraph For the purposes of compliance with the application deadline stipulated in the 5 th Article of these rules, the date considered will be the one stamped on the package at the post office. 2 nd Paragraph The cost of posting run at the expense of the competitor. The INSTITUTO JMJ RIO will not be responsible to make any kind of reimbursement of expenses.
CHAPTER V JUDGMENT 9 th Article The judgment of all logo candidates will happen between November 8 th and 12 th 2011, subjected to an expert judging committee, convened for this purpose by the INSTITUTO JMJ RIO, that will select the top 5 (five) logos. Sole paragraph: Logos designed in defective material, not allowing the evaluation of the judging committee, will first be disqualified during the screening process. 10 th Article FINAL SELECTION: the top 5 (five) logos will be submitted for evaluation and selection of the Pontifical Council for the Laity at the Vatican, which will make the choice of the official logo. 1 st Paragraph The announcement of the winning logo will happen on December 12 th 2011, at 6 pm, at the Shrine of Christ the Redeemer (Santuário do Cristo Redentor), and the disclosure made by the vehicles and media of the INSTITUTO JMJ RIO, as well as those of the Archdiocese of São Sebastião in Rio de Janeiro 2 nd Paragraph Registrations that do not fulfill these rules will not be accepted. 3 rd Paragraph The registration form will be available at the web site www.rio2013.com.br. 4 th Paragraph The INSTITUTO JMJ RIO is not responsible for the works damaged or lost during transport. The applicant assumes responsibility for security and integrity of the work submitted. CHAPTER VI AWARDS 11 th Article The award consists of the choice and publicizing of the logo and its author, it is not available to the winner any prize in pecunia or other remuneration due to the use of the work under any title, including copyrights. 12 th Article The winning logo will be published in all shapes, sizes, advertising material, media, labels, licensed products, sponsors authorized to make use of the logo, in everything that is connected to the WYD RIO2013. Sole Paragraph The explanation of the material made by the competitor will also be used for the WYD and without any charge to the INSTITUTO JMJ RIO. CHAPTER VII FINAL CONSIDERATIONS 13 rd Article The organization of the contest is responsible for the safekeeping and preservation of the material, which will be filed by INSTITUTO JMJ RIO. Copies provided for registration will not be returned and will be considered property of the INSTITUTO JMJ RIO. 14 th Article The competitor is fully responsible for any damage caused to third parties by registration and publicizing of his work, such as plagiarism, misuse of images, names, among others, taking any and all legal consequences of the act. 15 th Article It is not possible to appeal against the decisions of the judging committee. 16 th Article Cases not foreseen in these rules shall be settled by committee appointed by the presidency of the INSTITUTO JMJ RIO. I authorize the INSTITUTO JMJ RIO, through it technical staff, to do any kind of change, adaptation, adjustment, handling, application or any other use the logo of my own authorship. The author declares, from now on, the only and exclusive owners of the copyrights, object of this assignment, and is fully responsible for the originality of his creation. The author declares that he is keenly aware of the prohibition of the use of illustrations, pictures, paintings, artworks and other third-party products, without the prior authorization, under the penalty of the law of Intellectual Property and Copyright Act, exempting the INSTITUTO JMJ RIO of any obligation arising from third parties.
