HEBREWS 10:11 25

Outline The end to offerings The ineffective sacrifices of the priests The effective sacrifice of Christ The forgiven life Our new privileged position The new way of life

The end to offerings Hebrews 10:11 12 Every priest stands daily ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins; but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, SAT DOWN AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD, And continuation This is true of all priests Every, time after time, same Contrasts 10:11 with 10:12 One, for all time Sat dominion, power Right hand 1:3, 8:1, 12:2 honor

Priesthoods Levitical Every priest Stands Daily Same offerings Often Sacrifices Christ He/this one Sat One sacrifice (Unique offering) Once for all time One sacrifice

The end to offerings Hebrews 10:13 waiting from that time onward UNTIL HIS ENEMIES BE MADE A FOOTSTOOL FOR HIS FEET. This priest has enemies Passive the enemies will be subjugated for Him

The end to offerings Hebrews 10:14 For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. Only one offering was needed Perfection has been secured Sanctification is still in process

The end to offerings Hebrews 10:15 And the Holy Spirit also testifies to us; for after saying, And also The Holy Spirit is a second witness testify bear witness (martyr) Scripture is attributed to the Holy Spirit

The end to offerings Hebrews 10:16 THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THEM AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD: I WILL PUT MY LAWS UPON THEIR HEART, AND ON THEIR MIND I WILL WRITE THEM, He then says, Different use than Ch. 8 Those days the days of the new covenant Heart vs. mind Heart: Set of physical, spiritual and mental life Mind: faculty of thinking, comprehending, reasoning, moral understanding

The end to offerings Hebrews 10:17 AND THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE. Sin vs. lawless deeds Sin: departure from standard of uprightness Lawless: being disposed to what is lawless not at all still Strong negation Remember think of, care for, keep in mind

The end to offerings Hebrews 10:18 Now where there is forgiveness of these things, there is no longer any offering for sin. Forgiveness = not remembering Only Christ s sacrifice could bring this type of forgiveness When there is this type of forgiveness no more offerings are needed

The forgiven life Hebrews 10:19 Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, First reason The offerer never entered the Holy of Holies We have confidence now Boldness and confidence Now legally At the end of days Blood (92) vs. cross (28)

The forgiven life Hebrews 10:20 by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, We can approach since we are in Christ The entrance has been opened new recent, not previously existing way way of life, course of behavior Jesus is the door John 10:7 Would there have been a way if Christ hadn t had a body? Flesh incarnation

The forgiven life Hebrews 10:21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, Second reason Confidence isn t enough Not a high priest, but a great priest house of God the church Hebrews 3:2 6 1 Timothy 3:15 1 Peter 4:17

The forgiven life Hebrews 10:22 let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. draw near 4:16, 7:25, 10:1, 11:6, 12:18, 12:22, 1 Peter 2:4 For worship Approach acceptably Purification ceremony, sprinkling and washing Assurance

The forgiven life Hebrews 10:23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; Hold fast related to the word for catechism Confession same word, statement of allegiance Bending to neither side Not returning to the Old Covenant Hope is assured because of the faithfulness of the promise(r)

The forgiven life Hebrews 10:24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, consider also Heb. 3:1 Look or think carefully about What: one another Purpose/goal: rousing to activity KJV: let vs consider one another to prouoke NIV: let us consider how we may spur one another ESV: let us consider how to stir up one another

The forgiven life Hebrews 10:25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near. 10:24 is difficult if we don t meet together forsake in a negligent manner, be remiss How is this accomplished? As the body of Christ we are meant to be together Exhorting urge strongly

What does this look like? Praying for each other Living the Christian life, being an example Encouraging others to spiritual activities Serving one another Bearing each others burdens Humility

Summary of the argument In light of forgiveness in Christ (therefore ) Since we have confidence to enter the holy place By the blood of Jesus By a new and living way Since we have a great priest Let us Draw near Hold fast Consider one another

Summary Christ s effective sacrifice was offered once for all time Forgiveness in Christ does away with the need for further sacrifices Our new life is one of privilege, assurance, and consideration
