Be sure to take one with a heart. ~Lao-Tzu Lao Tzu was a philosopher of ancient China and is a central figure in Taoism (pronounced "Daoism"). Lao-Tzu literally means "Old Master. Lao-Tzu is revered simply as a wise man in and New Thought author and speaker Dr. Wayne Dyer (1940-2015) gleaned many of his own teachings from Taoism sharing them as ways to illuminate God s Presence in the world. He sought to emphasize that Divine Light is a global experience. Even though the words may be different, stories of Divine natural are often uniquely the same worldwide. In our shrinking world, it becomes ever so apparent that cultures outside the western world express their understanding of the Divine in ways different than ours. We are asked to become accustomed to ways of others. My religious studies include orientation to the religions of the world. It is my deep desire to share the primary tenants of the world religions during the Season of Peace (often referred to as the Season of Non-violence) January 31-April 4, 2016 in a series of talks entitled: Many Paths to Peace The season is an annual tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King, who devoted their lives to non-violent peace work. During this time, let s honor their work by holding a consciousness of world peace and considering the various faith traditions of the world during Sunday services. I am inviting returning Music Director, Larry Stokes to engage us in music of other cultures. And we invite you to share at our potlucks by bringing foods or dishes from different countries. We will close the series as we approach Easter acknowledging the Abrahamic traditions of Islam, Judaism and Christianity. The affairs of our planet influence our spiritual journey and we in turn influence the affairs of the planet. We have the power to tip the scales toward a world at peace by holding the vision, by holding our intentions for harmony and respect for all of creation. Together, neighbor to neighbor, friend to friend we affirm that: we are the light of the world. And together, we light the way... The Great Out of Doors with Diana Pace This summer, I made an epic 6080 mi journey to the Midwest in my camper van. I visited 14 national parks and monuments and several state parks in N Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan Upper Peninsula, S Dakota, Wyoming and Montana. For years I wanted to push East of the Rockies on my annual national parks exploring. Previously I visited all the big parks from the Rockies to the West coast and from the Canadian Rockies to Mexico. I had a great send off with Johanna leading a blessing for my trip and my van, Dakini. My Unity family committed to hold me in the Light during my trip. It became clear to me as I traveled that I was being guided and protected. Everything went so smoothly on the entire trip from getting campsites to boat tours on Lake Superior to cave tour tickets in S Dakota, to meeting great folks in spite of the demands of high tourist season. The North Woods of Minnesota is truly the 'land of 10000 lakes' and the people there are relaxed and friendly. I had an angel encounter when I was camped in the forest at Voyageurs National Park. I was sound asleep in the middle of the night when I was awakened by a voice saying, the storm we told you about is coming. It wasn't raining but I decided I should close the pop top on the van and get out to use the restroom since it wasn't raining. I got back in bed and soon an impressive thunderstorm came. I thought, what just happened. I remembered a book about angels I had read that said there are weather angels and area angels. I love visiting nature and special natural monuments and viewing the wildlife. Most of the places I visited were historically inhabited by Native Americans and I learned about their spiritual sites. I went to an Ojibway Pow Wow at Grand Portage National Park in Minnesota and enjoyed visiting with people. Pipestone National Monument in Minnesota is a special place for many major tribes who still collect the red stone today. They consider it the blood of their ancestors and use objects made from it for ceremonies. It has always been a place of peace for all the tribes who go. Devils Tower in Wyoming is a prayer place many major tribes still honor I bypassed Wounded Knee because it was just too sad to go there but I went to the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument in Montana. It is the site of the Sioux and Cheyenne battles with Custer and his troops. The tribes won the battle for their culture and way of life, although temporary since they did end up on reservations. It was an impressive and sobering monument. The scope of the encampments and battle sites are large and respectfully done. In N Dakota I visited the site of the Mandan village where Lewis and Clark met Sacajawea and her husband who went on the historic journey. On the way home in Idaho I visited the Shoshone-Bannock reservation and cultural center and learned that Sacajawea came from these Shoshone people but was abducted and lived with the Mandan Hidatsa people. On my way East I traveled the scenic by-ways of the Lewis and Clark Trail and Nez Perce Trail. In the future I want to travel to the home sites of the Nez Perce and their trail of attempted escape. Editor s note: Diana Pace has served many years as a board member at Unity of Roseburg. Recently she led congregation participants on hikes to Susan Falls and the N. Umpqua Trail. Thank you Diana! You are an awesome guide.

Celebrate! In October of 2015 Unity World Wide Ministries Board of Directors adopted the following: Climate Change Action Resolution We, the leadership of Unity Worldwide Ministries, hear the urgent call to co-create a world that nourishes all life forms. We positively declare our love for and spiritual interconnectedness with all beings and our responsibility to protect the sustainability of the environment. Aligned with the empowering spiritual teachings of Unity co-founders Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, Jesus and other inspired spiritual teachers, we advocate our worldwide prayer partners to take into affirmative prayer and meditation the personal inquiry of what is mine to do to improve the quality of life of all beings and our planet. UWM affirms that climate change is real and that human activity is a significant cause of climate change. UWM also acknowledges that climate change is an issue resulting in both environ mental degradation and social injustice. As such, we commit to serve, as our faith leads us, to take steps in healing the planet. Unity World Wide Ministries, in accordance with its God-centered five basic principles, commits to advancing the Unity movement by: 1. Promoting active stewardship of the environment and an awareness of our oneness with the earth. 2. Cultivating a consciousness of EarthCare that includes both spiritual and practical actions that support and balance the environment and our human needs, in accordance with Unity s Fifth Basic Principle, Through thoughts, words and actions, we live the Truth we know. 3. Promoting sustainable living practices that honor the earth s ecosystems and resources in a responsible manner. 4. Transforming attitudes and commitments by embracing concrete actions that reduce human ecological impact and promote social justice for all. 5. Education, supporting and encouraging individuals to align their (individual) lifestyle choices with values that promote environmental sustainability and recognition of their moral imperative to care for creation. Watch for Earth Day Weekend Celebration Concert in April! Continued Service To our delight, Brenda Green has accepted an invitation to fill a position on the Board of Directors created by Diana Cariaga retiring. Brenda is no stranger to commitment to Unity, however, as she was one of Unity of Roseburg s founders. She looks forward to serving on the Board just as the Board looks forward to the wisdom she will bring. Thank You Brenda 6
