St. Cornelius Catholic Church and School Prayer to the Guardian Angel Angel of God, my guardian dear. To whom God's love commits me here. Ever this day, be at my side. To light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen. St. Cornelius Catholic School 3330 Bellflower Blvd. Long Beach, CA 90808 562.425.7813 www.saintcornelius.com

St. Cornelius Catholic School Mission Statement Rising up for our Children's Future The administration and faculty of Saint Cornelius Catholic School recognizes that it shares with the family the educational mission of the Church. We endeavor to build a total faith community based on the gospel challenge of dedication to love, freedom, and social justice. It is our hope that each student will feel accepted, develop a realistic self-image, learn according to God-given ability and grow in awareness of the needs of others within the local, national and global community. For the past 50 years, St. Cornelius Catholic School and Church have provided its children with an exceptional education, both intellectually and spiritually. Many of our alumni have gone on to graduate from top universities and are currently employed in every major profession including business, education, engineering, law, and medicine. The academic discipline and Catholic values taught at the school and in the church prepared our alumni well for their future successes, and continue to give the current students those same advantages. St. Cornelius even produced a space shuttle astronaut. St. Cornelius 5th graders experience a simulated space mission. Future astronauts? Mission Possible!

St. Cornelius Catholic School gets accredited in 2003 by the Western Assciation of Schools and Colleges (WASC) St. Cornelius School gets high marks by WASC for its educational programs, but falls short in Technology. The school staff and parents agree. The Need for Technology Several years ago, in preparation for the WASC evaluation, parents, students and faculty were asked to identify areas they felt needed improvement at the school. The overwhelming majority of respondents spoke to the need for a more robust technology program at the school, as they felt it would better prepare the children to meet the new challenges ahead. Acting on these recommendations, the school and parish moved to fully integrate technology into the school curriculum, and parish to successfully address the opportunities of an increasingly complex and information-rich society. St. Cornelius gets its first grant. - over $20,000 - to kick-off the initial funding for planning and implementing the start of training for the teachers and students. To accomplish these goals, a new technology program has been developed. It is a program that involves much more than purchasing a few new computers and software, but rather it is the implementation of a fully integrated program, and a comprehensive approach to teaching that exploits the benefits of technology as a teaching aid, rather than simply the teaching of technology. Students will be taught how to use word-processing, mathematical analysis, and presentation software in concert with their core curriculum to further develop their creativity and critical thinking skills. Your Technology Commitee, working with Father Reardon, Mr. Payette and our technology consultant, has already begun to address these goals, and the process of bringing forth the plan has begun. Though parochial schools do not generally receive public funding, the school administration has been proactive in finding state and federal grant support and has been successful in receiving limited funding to assist the program. The school staff and Technology Committee has begun raising funds toward our goal and already has raised pledges totaling more than $8,000. A pilot program was started to train the teachers and students. FLASHMASTER Digital flashcards that help teach basic math skills. 40 are in current use.

Now, we need empower you and receive your support and participation. The Tech Angel Program The Parish and school will raise $45,000 by June 1, 2004 enabling us to complete the Technology Center portion of the program by September. After which we will continue to work toward raising additional funds to purchase additional classroom teaching aids and to implement the full scope of this new plan. We all must work toward the successful completion of a sustainable program. We need your leadership, support, and contacts. It is with this in mind that the Tech Angel program was created. We ask you for your creative thinking, your company and business contacts (i.e.: grants, matching fund programs), your personal, family, or estate support, and foundations you may know of, or are affiliated with, that may be open to supporting our program. We all must look around us for sources that can be accessed to raise the necessary funding to accomplish our goals for our faith community. Why call it "Tech Angel?" It is a creative, fun, and spiritual way to address a serious subject for our school and Parish, and it seemed to be written by God when we did our research. The Holy Scripture says that Angels are pure spirits created by God to act as the ministers of His will, bringing His message to all who will listen. They bridge the gap between the holiness and perfection in heaven and the imperfections of the human world. Our Lord often spoke of angels as He bestowed them with great wisdom, freedom, and power, and their many appearances in the Bible are an indication of their critical role. These words jumped out as a call to action and led the Technology Committe to title the funding portion of this program, Tech Angel. Students are fed at the weekly liturgy of the Eucharist. Students respond to the liturgy of the word.

Tech Angel Giving Levels Angel Gabriel $20,000 Platinum Sponsor St. Gabriel brought the message to Mary, Mother of God, that she would bear the Christ child ("And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus." Luke 1:31). Angel Gabriel sponsors will assure the birth of the St. Cornelius Technology Center. St. Michael the Archangel $10,000 Gold Sponsor St. Michael is the great protector of the people of God ("the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people" Daniel 12:1). Archangel Michael sponsors will ensure the sustainability of the Technology Program. System Angel $1,275 System Angels are guardians of the system itself. Each work station, its software, network, and programs make a difference to each of its user's lives, as Angels do in each of our lives. Computer Angel $675 The power of a computer Angel comes from within. A computer Angel represents the power within each of the computers in the computer lab and brings that power forward to each of its users. Sponsors a workstation Sponsors a computer Cherub Pledge $150 Provides for support Archangel Raphael $5,000 Silver Sponsor St. Raphael restored vision to Tobius to show that God is faithful to those faithful to Him. So too will Archangel Raphael sponsors give vision to the future of the Technology Program. It is our goal that each family that has not selected one of the above Angel levels will join and support this program with a Cherub Pledge. Whenever a bell is rung, a Cherub Angel is born and he becomes one of God's Army of Angel's. We hope many Cherub Angels will respond with this pledge to assure that God's work is completed. Guardian Angels $2,500 Bronze Sponsor Guardian Angels are heavenly spirits assigned by God to watch over each of us during our lives. Guardian Angel sponsors will bring the Technology Program into the classroom, enabling the teachers to use advanced audiovisual teaching techniques to greatly enhance the quality of the children's classroom education. "We are the earthly Angels who will enable and guarantee the successful implementation of a comprehensive technology program here at our Parish. Each of the program's Angels represent an important part of the funding phase of the Parish's planned technology goals." Mr. Leonard Payette

Our Success Relies on the Generosity of the Angels of the Parish We ask you to consider pledging your chosen Angel's act of love in supporting the program and raising the necessary funds for the St. Cornelius Tech Angel Program. All pledges to the Tech Angel Program are tax deductible and payment schedules can be arranged. You have the opportunity to pledge as an individual, a past graduate, or you may consider participating as an extended family or a group of families. (i.e.: five families participate and pledge $1,000 per family and become Archangel Raphael.) You may also make a pledge in honor of a loved one who is still with us or in memory of one who has passed on. Your support will carry on the important work of your Angel this year, and in the years to come. Please fill out the attached pledge form in this brochure and return it to the school office or Church rectory. Additional pledge forms are available in the school office, library, or in the Church rectory. Go Forth and Spread the Good Word... St. Cornelius Tech Angel Program Pledge Form 1.
