Last Sunday, I expressed some concerns over rumors and gossip. It was good to clear the air. Now, we move forward together united as a team, a family, ready to generously spread God s kingdom in our world. This is our focus. Not petty or passing things but the eternal things relating to our salvation in Jesus Christ. I m profoundly grateful for the vast majority of you who have been so supportive of our mission here at Our Lady of Grace. I invite and encourage everyone to be on board, go the extra mile, and get more involved, committed, and excited about the work that God desires to do through us. In our Gospel reading today, the Lord s human nature is strained and tired and yet, when he hears of the illness of Peter s mother-in-law, he goes immediately to her and seeks to console her. This is a powerful example to us of how our own discipleship should look and how we are called to live. Even when we re tired or stressed, we are called to look at our neighbor, see her needs, and then selflessly serve others. Some things happening around the parish: This past week, I was away for a couple of days doing some recording on the Beatitudes at the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) in Alabama. It s my hope that these efforts will help others to learn about the Beatitudes and take the #BeBlessedChallenge! I remind everyone that the resources to do (or re-do) the Challenge are available on our parish website. I m grateful to all parishioners who were able to attend the of Gratitude and Blessing for all our police officers, firefighters, and first responders. Please continue to pray for these men and women who put their lives on the line for our safety! This past week, we celebrated the feast of Saint Blaise. The holy martyr is an advocate for all illnesses of the throat. In this intense flu season, be sure to offer a few prayers and ask for the saint s intercession for yourself, your loved ones, and our parish community. Next weekend is a busy one at Our Lady of Grace. Please note the marriage retreat on February 10 and the Mardi Gras on February 11. Also, please note that Lent starts early this year. Ash Wednesday is on Saint Valentine s Day! It s a good time to start thinking about how you will use your Lent this year. More updates next week. Let us pray for one another!
